I'm starting to get into that spring frame of mind. The home and garden show this weekend at the convention centre is probably part of the reason. When I start seeing ads for show like this, I just want to get into my back yard and start putting a shovel in the ground and start re-organizing my gardens. Then I have to stop my self and realize nobody plants anything till Victoria Day weekend. I'd to thank the many listeners and facebookers who have sent us their Oscar picks, their facebook habits and more. This morning, Matt and I are talking proud about this great city of ours. Yesterday's Toronto Sun had a great article about spending time in Hamilton for March break. So if you and the kids think just staying in town is boring next week for March break think again because Hamilton is a happening place!!!
What spectacular weather!!! Don't flip out when the temperatures start to come down to normal and we start to see showers. That's normal for this time of year. These last few days have just been a chance to try on your spring clothes form last season (don't they look great!!!!) Look for my book review of Sandra Browne's "Rainwater", a book Sandra wrote in between writing other books under contract but once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. This is my first read by this author and it won't be my last. I wish I was as talented as these writers at creating a story that can keep you engaged in the book till the last page .This book did for me. By the way don't forget Monday, March 15th the night, CBC's Hockeyville airs and hopefully Dundas (we all know we did right?) make it to the finals!!!
What length would you go to look 5 maybe even 10 years younger? Matt and I were mulling this over yesterday after the show when we were discussing how great Oscar winning director Kathryn Bigelow looked at the awards. She's been making movies for over 30 years and is 58 years old. She's currently dating a 36 year old and was one of James Cameron's ex wives. How does she do it? She looked perfect and so natural. Could she have had a little augmentation along the way or is she just a natural beauty? Hollywood does pressure these stars to take some sort of action to look younger but what about the rest of us? What would you do to look younger? Plastic surgery? Botox? Augmentation? We want to hear from you this morning ... call us: 905-645-5483.
Well I tried to stay up as late as my eyes could stay open which is around 10pm last night for the academy awards. I really wanted to see Steve martin and Alec Baldwin who were good but I think Alec would have been great by himself. I just think he's hilarious and quick on his feet. Having said that, as a team they were pretty good together and especially funny poking fun at themsleves when very young actors and actresses were introduced. Today is International oman's day and what better way to honour it than to see director kathryn Bigelow make history with her Oscar wins last night for The Hurt Locker. How about Sandra Bullock winning a Razzie award (for a rotten performance in All About Steve) and winning an Oscar for fabulous performance in The Blind Side!!! By the way, way to go Dundas for looking so cool this past Saturday for the CBC cameras. We have our fingers crossed that Dundas has made the finals for Hockeyville!!!
I can't believe how nice it's been outside. I was walking around yesterday with a light jacket on my way to Billy Green School. It was a career day where a group of staff spoke to the grade 7 and 8's and about what a career in radio would involve. I gotta tell ya, these students were attentive, engaging and very polite. I was very impressed! This Sunday I'm the emcee for "3 cups of tea" put on by the Zonta Club of Hamilton over at Chedoke Presbyterian Church on Mohawk Road West. It's a fundraiser and it's only 35 dollars. I was going to rent the Hurt Locker last night (an Oscar nominated movie by one of James Cameron's ex wives) but I was exhausted and I want to be fully awake to see this compelling movie. I can't wait to see Alec Baldwin Sunday at the Oscars, he's hilarious and that's what the Oscars needs!!!!!!!
We're getting closer and closer to the weekend and the Oscars on Sunday night. I'm a huge fan of Alec Baldwin and i predict he'll be so funny and entertaining that he'll decide he's not going to retire from showbiz and finally get offered that big role he so deserves. This guy is so full of talent and has been so underused until 30 Rock and many memorable big screen movies. But he's never gotten the big one; you know the starring role in a big time movie. I'll also be enjoying 3 cups of tea on Sunday afternoon with the Zonta club of Hamilton. This is happening at the Chedoke Presbyterian Church on Mohawk Road and trust me this will be fun and it starts at 1:30. For more info just call 905-648-8783. You'll be home for the Oscars!!!!!
Matt and I were chatting about the Oscars yesterday and we started thinking about past Oscar movies and performances that may or may not have been nominated that should have won Oscars. I know this Sunday's broadcast will be no exception because there have been some great movies and not all those performances can win. I've put together my top 5 Oscar performances or movies from the past that should have won.
1. 1962- To Kill a Mockingbird-got 3 Oscars but should have won best picture
2. 1979-Kramer vs. Kramer-Dustin Hoffman was nominated but should have won.
Well, I'm back from a quickie vacation in Florida where I was obsessed with the Olympics. My hubby and I went with friends and I'm not lying, we planned our week around almost every Olympic event! I have to say this was the most exciting Olympics!! I know it's because of its Canadian connection but it was truly an unbelievable finish!! We were in Orlando airport with a bunch of hockey fans both American and Canadian and we were glued to the TV till the announcement came over the P.A. that the game would be on TV on the plane so we dashed to get our seats and technical difficulties caused us to miss Sidney's winning goal! I thank the Grimsby boys for watching ESPN and yelling out to everyone on the plane that we'd won the gold. Man do we have so much to be proud of this morning!
Women rule!! Congrats to London, Ontario native Christine Nesbitt - she finished the 1,000 metre long track speed skating with a gold medal. What about Sidney Crosby last night and the winning goal to beat Switzerland 3-2 in a shootout. It was a nail biter. The Canadians outshot the Swiss 46-23 in both regulation and overtime. How exciting are these Olympics? They even had the Olympics on where I was having my nails done yesterday. I never thought I'd be this glued to the TV. I find myself doing everything around when the next event starts. Today's press conference with Tiger Woods should be interesting. I just want the guy to go play golf. I'm off next week so join matt and Tom. They'll keep you posted with all the latest Olympic medals and I'm going to hopefully rest and relax!
This is day 7 of the Olympics and I feel like I haven't slept in weeks. Between my husband and me, we've been glued to the TV and especially yesterday when Ancaster's Brad Martin attempted to qualify for the snowboard halfpipe at Cypress. He gave it his best shot but couldn't do it and in the Hamilton spec this morning brad says he'll keep training for 2014 in Sochi, Russia. Hey good for him , a good attitude and let's face it , if you watched any of this type of snowboarding, it's a task just keeping it all together and not falling off your snowboard. My hubby told me he saw a piece on those crazy pants the Norwegians were wearing during their curling performance - you can get your own pair at www.loudmouthgolf.com.
I can't believe the comments that are starting to surface from other countries about the fact that the winter Olympics are being played in a place that isn't experiencing winter at all. Forecasters are saying Vancouver is reaching the warmest temperatures in 100 years so - who would have thought this could be possible? Despite the foggy conditions, Maelle Ricker grabbed a gold medal in women's snowboard cross and she was amazing leaving all the other snowboarders well behind her. There have been some glitches since the Olympics started but are you going to tell me that hasn't been the case in other host countries? Come on folks, this is a huge event and there will always be something that doesn't quite fall into place the way we'd like to.
I'm hoping both Valentines and Family Day were great like mine were. I have to thank all the folks that came out to the pancake breakfast at the Dundas community centre on Saturday. It was a fundraising day for the Village bakery that burned down just after Christmas and the residents that lived upstairs. Saturday night I was the emcee for the first annual February Fever Event held at the Renaissance Centre for the Juravinski Cancer Centre which is building the CIBC breast assessment centre. It was a huge success that featured a great band called the Travoltas. The rest of the time I was glued to the TV for all the latest Olympic coverage. My hubby and I went for a dinner for Valentines Day and then we had a very sporty weekend. Sunday was spent cross country skiing and then for family day we decided to go ice fishing believe it or not and all though we didn't catch anything we had a great day outside. We were back home in time for more Olympic TV watching. I never thought I'd be this into it. Isn't British Columbia beautiful?!
What a night at chocolate fest!! It was the 6th annual for SACHA (sexual assault centre) and I think it was the biggest to date!!!! A great night and a local band named Bar Chords played and they were awesome!!! This is such a busy weekend; I start the weekend off with the Dundas McCoy game as they take on Orillia. Then tomorrow in Dundas it's an all day event of fundraising which starts off with a pancake breakfast put on by the Rotary Club. It'll be behind Ellenoire on King Street. There will be entertainment all day long and huge list events all to benefit the village bakery that burned down during the Christmas holidays so please join me and my hubby tomorrow for some delicious pancakes!!!! Saturday night I'm off to another fundraiser. This is the first annual dinner dance for the Juravinski Cancer Centre and it's a disco night. If you want tickets call Ralph at 905-547-2323. It should be great!
The next few days will be busy ones for me starting tonight with the 6th annul Chocolatefest and silent auction for SACHA (sexual assault centre). This fabulous night of music, chocolate treats, silent auction and more is to benefit the sexual assault centre. It will be held at Liuna station downtown and I gotta tell you there are some very unique and delicious treats from Hamilton and surrounding areas finest bakeries and restaurants. It's only 25 dollars and you know what ladies, grab you girlfriends and make it a ladies night to remember. Why not!! It's for a very important cause and we all need a chocolate in our lives!!
I watched a bit of American Idol last night just to see how Ellen would fit into the whole judging thing and she seemed to be very comfortable with the judging and she looked like she'd been doing this for years. The appearance of Simon sure didn't bother Ellen at all and by the way Simon looks totally bored with the whole thing. Maybe it's time for him to call a day. I think Ellen will do just fine and I think she's just the formula the show needs to get back on top of the ratings. Don't forget Mr. Romance makes another appearance on the show to help get you ready for the most romantic day of the year that just happens too fall on Sunday. Just send us and email or call us with you love questions!!
Well i stayed up long enough to see the Who perform the half time show at last night's 44th super bowl game in Miami. They sounded great by the way, no wonder they keep coming out of retirement. I think at half time the score was pretty close. But it was Drew Brees who did it last night for New Orleans. He completed 32 passes and the saints went marching in with a 31-17 super bowl comeback. you know they say you should never leave a game before it ends or assume the favoured team will the big one because that's exactly what happened last night. It's great for New Orleans who hasn't had a lot to celebrate since all the devastation of the past couple of years. The streets will no doubt be filled with cheering fans. Good for them, they deserve it!
I dropped by Brassie's last night in Ancaster for the Olympic send off for snowboarder Brad Martin who looked very overwhelmed by all the hoopla. And why not? Brad will be the first Hamiltonian to be in the Vancouver 2010 Olympics so it is so exciting to think Brad may be coming home with a gold medal!! I had my picture taken with Brad and you'll find it on our Sunni and Hayes facebook site. By the way matt and I are so thrilled because this morning we're giving away another trip to sandals for Fly Away Friday plus a chance this morning for someone to win a 1,000 dollar Tacori diamond pendant. Have a great Superbowl party this weekend!!!!!!
It's a real rarity to have an Olympic hopeful so close to home but Ancaster's brad Martin will be at Brassie's on Wilson Street from 6pm on and will be signing autographs and meeting his fans. This is a celebration and send-off to this gifted snowboarder who's off to Vancouver to pick up a gold medal so come by wish him luck! We're getting closer and closer to super bowl weekend and what plans are you making for your big party or are you even having one? It should be a good game and even better is the half time entertainment. The Who should be explosive on the stage Sunday night in Miami!
I didn't set out to do this but last night my husband decided to check out one of the 10 best picture movies last night. We have only seen Avatar so far so we watched Inglorious Basterds and I must say Quentin Tarantino is so gifted when it comes to creating a movie that is about a serious subject and giving it a quirky funny spin at times. I was so impressed with Brad Pitt, he's really becoming a very seasoned actor not just a pretty boy and Christoph Waltz who's up for best supporting actor is amazing. It's a film you must see along with the other 9!!!!! Just a reminder I'll be making an appearance at Brassie's on Wilson street in Ancaster tomorrow night for Brad Martin who's off to the Olympics for snowboarding, so come by wish him well. It starts at 6pm.
Who would have thought that a little rodent named Wiarton Willy would have such a huge effect on whether we'll be gardening sooner than later. It's a February 2nd tradition and we'll find out sometime after 8am if spring will be here earlier or we'll face 6 more weeks of something else. I was at the B'nai Brith Sports Celebrity Dinner last night at the convention centre which helps a number of charities and not only focuses on well known sports figures but hi lights the achievements of our local high school athletes. it was well attended and it was funny, former NFL and CFL Quarterback Jessie Palmer, now a TV sports broadcaster was at the dinner and lots of women were saying "isn't that the bachelor?" Yes that was him.
I never thought I'd hear myself say this but I actually want an Apple iPad and really don't know why. I think it's just one of those items that is very convenient to store and have around when you're trying to access something when you're travelling. But you have to ask yourself is this a necessity for me or am I just getting caught up in the new and easy way to have information at your fingertips. I still need lessons on sending attachments when i email something to someone and although i consider myself a problem solver , I'm not much of one when it comes to a problem with something I'm working on when I'm online. So maybe I should concentrate on that rather than wait till the end of March for this iPad to come along and maybe make my life easier. Stay warm this weekend!
You know with all the talk about Haiti and the fundraising that's been going on in our community, I've almost forgotten that there are a number of events coming up to participate in as well starting with this weekend It's the Alzheimer's walk at Limeridge mall and Burlington mall on Sunday. It's an indoor walk to support Alzheimer's. I am already booking events that are coming up in the fall believe it or not. Haiti is so important right now but just keep in mind that if you have been supporting a favourite charity to continue to do so because this is about all of us making a difference and speaking of that you know what a tech no wizard I am, I'm going to get Tom our producer to set me up on a Twitter account. I need to know what everyone is doing at all times!!!
What else can be said? Yesterday a media telethon was held combining TV, K-Lite FM, CKOC and Talk 820 and you did it Hamilton. The total was a whopping $565,000. The funds raised go directly to help St. Joseph's Health system's outreach program that has been delivering health care in Haiti since 1986. The St. Joe's team was hoping to raise 300,000 dollars but that was surpassed so congrats Hamiltonians as a community once again you have proven your support for an area that needs our help. Hey by the way my book club review is up and running so make sure you check out my review of Nanny Returns!!!!!
You know how successful the Haiti telethons were over the weekend both Canada and the U.S. well we want to make a difference right here in Hamilton with the Hamilton Media Haiti telethon. This telethon will run now till 10 pm tonight and can be seen and heard. CHCH TV will be televising this event periodically because the event itself will take place at MacMaster downtown centre across from the John Sopinka Courthouse. There will be local performers there and there are hundreds of volunteers involved. This is your chance to donate. We'll be talking about it all day and the number to call is 1-877-91-Haiti. Matt and I encourage you to make that call this morning or later in the day. You know I read a story this morning that it's going to take close to 10 years to get Haiti back to normal and with your help maybe we can make that sooner!
All eyes were on TV this past Friday night with the 2 very successful telethons, the American one making 57 million and the Canadian one making 9 million dollars. I watched a bit of both and was amazed at the talent line up and the message definitely got across. I saw a stellar performance from Justin Timberlake as he sang Leonard Cohan's Alleluia. Neil Young, Nelly Furtado, and the list went on were great in their own right. I saw bits and pieces of Conan's last show but now the realty is the battle begins once again between leno and Letterman and on March 1st when Leno is in 11:30 pm slot again we'll see if his numbers improve. Conan's last show drew huge numbers again so he went out with a bang and now he pursues a future somewhere else on the TV airwaves.
I am so proud of this city I love for many reasons but the main one right now is the number of events and fundraisers being put together for Haiti. This city is so committed to helping others and it's truly amazing to see. It's also so good to see celebrities taking their time to say yes I will be part of a network telethon to raise money for Haiti and how about those celebs with so much wealth spreading it to where it's most needed? I think it's so important no matter what the cause to get out there help someone, or some group. I'm telling you, it will make you better person and it will definitely put a smile on your face. Speaking of smiling don't forget to register for fly away Friday at k-litefm.com. Look as well for my book club review of Nanny Returns which will be attached to my blog.
It's been really hard to get geared up for the TV season with the mess with the late night talk show hosts constantly in the news. While matt and I were away last week, I managed to see a few episodes of Mad Men which can only be see on the AMC network. A few of the shows were being show on our flight back from Nassau. This show is set in the mid 60's at an ad agency where men were in charge and women just kept getting their bosses coffee and cigarettes. It's a very clever, well crafted show which I hope makes to a network everyone can see because it's amazing. I watched a very little bit of American Idol because I wanted to catch Shania Twain, she was a guest judge and she was okay but I thought the whole show sort of lacked something. Now Ellen isn't on the show yet and maybe that's the key to it getting the big numbers. Who knows!
I have found myself thinking at least once or twice a day about the victims, their families and the destruction of last week's Haiti earthquake. Astral Media Radio stations across Canada held HELP HAITI DAY inviting listeners to donate and the government of Canada would double the donation. A special thanks to those of you who did that and to those who were not able, all you have to do is log onto our website at www.k-litefm.com and donate to the Red Cross. You will be a better person for it. Listeners of Astral Media's 82 radio stations in 45 cities across the country demonstrated extraordinary generosity yesterday by raising over $800 000 for the Canadian Red Cross in Haiti. Along with the Government of Canada's commitment to match the contributions of individual Canadians to charitable organizations in response to the earthquake in Haiti, the total amount raised surpasses $1.5 million.
Well it was great week at Sandals, Nassau and we all bid a fond goodbye to all the fabulous Sandals staff, all the other radio stations that were broadcasting and to our first Fly Away Friday winner, Sharlene Raven who found out Friday morning that she was going on the vacation of a lifetime. It was a beautiful sunny day in Nassau yesterday and there was very sad news yesterday about the earthquake in Haiti and we were under a tsunami watch for a short time here in the Bahamas - but there is no cause for concern on this island. Yesterday we took the ferry over to Sandals offshore island called Sandals Cay where there are sandy beaches, a fabulous restaurant and an island spa. You can see all our adventures by logging onto k-litefm.com and clicking on our links to facebook and youtube. You could be here yourself too - just be sure to register for Fly Away Fridays! Matt and I give away our first trip this Friday morning just after 8am. I almost forgot - last night we ate at a great Japanese restaurant here at the resort called Kimono. The chef was only 19 years old and he was a master at his craft!
Matt and I have been broadcasting live from Sandals, Nassau in the Bahamas and it's quite different having a backdrop with the sound of the ocean, the sun starting to rise above the clouds and the Sandals staff preparing for a day in the sun with everyone here. Yesterday Matt and I took a tour of Nassau where we saw where Jaws the movie was filmed, we also saw where one of the scenes from the bond movie Thunderball was filmed. Actually there's diving expedition you can take where you can see all the bond movie diving scenes. It was very interesting and we saw just how beautiful the island is. It was sneak peak and you can experience it yourself by registering on k-lite fm. You could be a winner on Friday morning. Follow our adventures this week on facebook and youtube.com/sunniandhayes.

it was nice to find out that actress Sandra Bullock had picked up a couple of People's Choice Awards last night and that she can speak with such grace and style. On the other hand at the Palm Springs film festival(these awards are given out for outstanding acting in film), Mariah Carey won breakthrough actress honours and I'm sure if you go on YouTube you can see her acceptance speech which made absolutely no sense and just sounded like a bunch of gibberish. It's too bad because that'll be what we all talk about today not the accomplishments of some more deserving people. Mariah's acting in the movie Precious was apparently amazing, it's just too bad she couldn't act that way during her acceptance speech.

What an end to a hockey game! The USA teams scores to take the World Junior hockey title in overtime. I was screaming as loudly as the fans in Saskatoon last night. It wasn't supposed to end this way but it did and you know who did win last night? You got it - the leafs. Oh well - back to reading, and the K-Lite book club is back. Look for my review of the Nanny Returns, a sequel to the successful best seller the Nanny Diaries. I'd like to thank the woman behind me in Shoppers Drugmart yesterday who was so sweet. While I was in line to pay for some items I had bought, I asked for a book of stamps. The clerk said they were out and the lady behind me took one out of her purse and gave it to me saying merry Christmas. She was a sweetheart, she wanted no money, she was just happy to help. There are great people around!

I'm hoping to see thousands and thousands of people at Mapleview tomorrow morning from 5:30 am till 9am. Matt and I will be there bright eyed and bushy tailed so to speak. The fun will include a lot of Christmas caroling with singers Jim Witter and Ian Thomas, maybe some surprise singers, a chance when you get there to fill out a ballot and walk away with a 1,000 dollar gift certificate from Mapleview but you have to be there tomorrow. Promise okay? By the way we'll be taking donations for the United Way because everyone needs help this time of year. Matt and I love being on location and meeting the people who spend mornings listening to us each and every weekday morning. That's the greatest Christmas gift in the world!!

This the shortest day of the year believe or not and this past weekend had to be the shortest weekend on the earth! I was on location all day Saturday at Barry's jewellers and Bell World and judging by the in both stores and the traffic everywhere, there are tons of people still shopping like crazy before Christmas on Friday. Matt and I hope you'll join us Wednesday morning from 5:30 till 9am for some carol singing, laughter and we hope you'll make a donation to the United Way and don't forget you have a chance to win a 1,000 dollar shopping spree while you're there with us so that's definitely worth it right?

No pressure but this is the last weekend till Christmas. I'll be on location tomorrow at 2 locations, the first one is at Barry's Jewellers on Upper James in Hamilton from 9am till 1pm and then I scoot out to Burlington at Bellworld on walkers line form 1 till 5pm. Both locations offering tons of great Christmas gift ideas and savings. This is probably a good weekend to find at least a few hours to just de stress or relax because next will wiz by and then is Christmas day. I almost forgot matt will be at Burlington Mall for a special Olympic presentation sponsored by the bay. There are going to be outdoor activities out in the parking lot and it starts at about 3pm. Make sure your calendar includes a visit to Mapleview for our Christmas show on Wednesday December 23rd. You could win a 1,000 dollar gift certificate from Mapleview!

I think I'm basically done with the Xmas present buying end of things. I don't think I left anyone out. Our biggest concern at our home is making sure there's enough room for everyone and that we all really enjoy each other's company because that's really what Christmas is all about. A week today matt and I will be live at Mapleview shopping centre as you know broadcasting live from 5:30 till 9am. I should also mention I'll also be at the Bay (which is the mall) right after the show till around noon promoting some great deals for last minute shoppers. Last night we watched the season ender (season 3) of Californication and I've said before, the show is clever and extremely funny but last night the season ended on a very dark note and it was very well done. It's going to drive me nuts to wait for what I hope will be season 4. It's a Showtime production so hopefully we're talking another successful season with David Duchovny Z(who by the way I used despise but now I adore :)

I'd like to thank everyone who came out Friday night at the Winchester Arms for some good cheer to benefit Mac children's hospital and Interval House. Pauline, Jenifer and all the staff there are fabulous and by the way it's the Winchester arms in Dundas. I'll be live on location tomorrow morning at Barry's Jewellers on Upper James in Hamilton from 9am till 1pm. There are lots of great gifts ideas and guys if you need help drop by I'll give you some sound advice. I'm off next week to spend 6 days in the sun with my hubby, a gift we both decided we'd give each other. I'll chat with you when I return Monday December 14th. Have a great weekend and week!!

Don't you just love going from one scandal to another? The past couple of weeks have been one tabloid story after another from a couple showing up unannounced at the white house to one of the best golfers in the world having to admit he isn't quite as perfect as he appears. I'd rather focus on important things like seeing everyone's smiling face at the Winchester Arms in Dundas tonight between 6 and 8pm. I'll be attempting once again to bartend for MacMaster Children's Hospital so I hope you'll come and join in a little fun and frivolity. I stopped to see my folks in Niagara country yesterday and my mom still has roses growing in her garden. Forget the poinsettias; I've got a vase of beautiful white roses on my table.

I did a bit of gift wrapping yesterday. I noticed the number of stores with bins for the needy and I realized just how important that need is this time of year. Everybody has a cause to contribute to but if you happen to walk by a bin collecting food or clothing remember there are folks out there who really need it and every little bit helps. I watched a bit of the Habs/Maple Leafs game last night and the Alouettes were on hand at the Bell Centre in Montréal for a huge round of cheers and then the Canadiens lost to the Leafs. That has to be the first time in a hundred years!! Just a reminder I'm guest bartending at the Winchester Arms in Dundas tomorrow night from 6 til 8pm. We'll be talking donations for Mac Children's Hospital.

Imagine going the entire month of November without a snowflake in the air. Then I drive into work this morning on the first day of December and there are light snowflakes falling gently on the ground just in time for the start of a brand new month. I was so happy to read that record viewers watched the grey cup over the weekend and there was probably record crowds of people talking about this Tiger Woods story that will not go away especially since he's now cancelled an appearance at a scheduled golf tourney. So that once again raises a lot of questions. But I say who cares its December and it's time to get into the holiday mode and gift giving mode. If you're interested in something very special today check out the baby wall at St Joe's hospital, with a contribution of your choice you can have your baby photo hanging on the baby wall at St Joe's and you can make a difference!

I was the emcee for the 2009 OFSAA girls quad A basketball championships at Liuna station yesterday morning. You want to see some great high school basketball this weekend, it's happening at bishop Tonnos, Cathedral, St Mary's and St Thomas Moore high schools this weekend. Good luck girls!!! my schedule is a bit busy this weekend, as I'll be at Barry's Jewellers at Mapleview centre in Burlington from 9am till 1pm, then it's off to the Bay downstairs for some great holiday gift ideas. I'll be there helping out the girls till about 3pm and then its homeward bound. I plan to make sure my hubby makes the hottest, chili for this Sunday's grey cup ... I'll take the Alouettes!!!

Matt and I are very excited to have Andy Kim on the show just after 8am. He'll be getting into the festive season but he'll also I hope sing a classic (if we beg him to maybe). I did a very diligent thing yesterday afternoon I cleared out a closet that was filled clothing that I wear and a whole of clothing I don't wear so I'll make sure I drop the clothing to a centre in need and you know what I always feel so good when I do that because the clothes will be given to a family in need and that's what it's all about. By the way Matt and I have out miracle tree up. You can access it on our facebook page or at k-litefm.com and make a donation to Mac kids. It's so important to have McMaster children's hospital in our community.

Hey a month today is Christmas Eve!! I have a couple of things bought for the gift giving season and I actually started pulling out my indoor decorations. I was so excited yesterday to attend the press conference over at the football hall of fame to announce the formation of the Hamilton Sports Hall of Fame. There were a few local sports heroes including Harry Howell, Angelo Mosca, Rick Nattress and the list goes on and that's why we need a local hall of fame. The mayor suggested yesterday that we may see this hall at the city's new Pan Am stadium. It's a very exciting time to be a Hamiltonian, the Pan Am Games, the sports hall of fame and I'm sure there's more to come. On a very sad note, Matt and I had the pleasure of having Jacksoul in our studio on numerous occasions. We were both very saddend to hear the news of Haydain Neale's passing. Hamilton has lost a great musician and he will be missed.

Well its official, I'm going to my first Christmas open house tonight and that marks for me the beginning of open houses, overtime at work, and overall planning for a very busy Christmas season at our house this year. Matt and I are very excited because we will live on location again this year for the Christmas season. Our location has changed slightly, we'll be in Burlington at the new revamped Mapleview Centre which we're very excited about. The date will be Wednesday, December 23rd and we're hoping for a huge singing crowd because Jim Witter will be back singing with us along with a few surprises. Stay tuned for more details...
I can't think of anything else this morning but the Ticats losing that nail biter yesterday afternoon. You know what it was a great finish right up till the end. Angelo Mosca said it took defense to win the game yesterday and the Cats did what they could in front of a sold out crowd. They had a great season and this just means the road to the Grey Cup will be that much easier next year with this experienced new line up!!!! I was at the Bay, Burlington Mall for their holiday gala which was a great success. Early Christmas shoppers bought tickets to buy cosmetics and jewellery (and everything else) and there was money that went to the look good feel better foundation. We put away our lawn mower, and raking stuff over the weekend. I think it looks we're getting a little closer to a new season. The temperatures have been great!!!!!!!

Well it's the day before dress up day; you know the day to have fun disguised as someone or something for the day and eat all kinds of tiny chocolate bars! I think Halloween will be even bigger this year with it falling on a Saturday night but keep in mind everyone is a lot more cautious these days with the flu spreading so you have to take or continue to take measures to insure your child is safe and healthy. This will be my last blog Friday/November 13th. Matt and I are off on our Sunni and Hayes 15th anniversary cruise of the south of France. We'll be with fellow cruisers on a river boat which starts in Marseilles, France and works its way toward Paris. Have a happy and safe Halloween!

There were traffic jams everywhere and anywhere there were flu clinics. I couldn't believe the line ups but then again it's understandable. We are all so cautious these days about the flu, H1N1 and even a cold. We're all doing the right things, the hand sanitizer, washing hands constantly and just overall best care ourselves in general. Matt loves to tease about speeding up the seasons and talking about holiday seasons too early but the stores are filling up with Christmas stuff and it's funny, yesterday I heard a young girl ask her mom if Easter had passed and to that the mom replied "hey - Easter's not till April." I actually watched the last half of the Blair Witch Project with my step kids last night. What was that all about??

Everyone's going nuts over Taylor Swift tickets and Matt and I will be giving away more tickets this morning. The show isn't until May and tickets don't go on sale till Friday. Matt and I were at the Scotiabank's fundraiser for the united way at Michelangelo's. It was also in conjunction with SISO an international organization, so the entertainment took the ticket holders all over the world. Hey don't forget if you're looking for a good book to read check video blog for the K-Lite book club plus get onto the K-Lite website to see how you can win a copy. We found out a few days ago believe or not our annual Christmas show will be at Mapleview mall this year in Burlington on December 23rd. Just telling you so you can come out and sing carols at a ridiculously silly hour - Mark it on your calendar! Plus log onto fightflu.ca to get your H1N1 preparedness guide.
I really over did it yesterday to the point that I really started to feel so exhausted, I wasn't even hungry for dinner (which by the way never happens). With the fury of the flu everywhere, it's just not a good idea to that again. I'm always preaching good health, exercise, take you multi vitamin and what do I do this morning, walk out of the house and forget to take my vitamins. I'm telling you, I'm surprised I combed my hair. Matt, Tom and I will be at the Mamma Mia gala for the SPCA tonight at Michelangelo's. This should be a great event. I've also decided I want to invest in some skates so I can take them down to Dundas driving park and the new outdoor rink and try to get back into skating. I think I was 14 years the last time I had skates on. It should be interesting!!!!
I love to applaud creative people, those who know how to make something out of nothing, those who know how to paint beautiful pieces of art, can get into a juice film role etc etc. I must admit I was quite surprised to see that the creative staff at Oprah's show are featuring a show partly devoted to the discovery of the perfect pair of jeans, you know ladies the pair that'll keep everything in place and make you appear like a fashion model (or just plain comfortable). Kudos to Oprah if she's found them because I think I've been on a lifeline search for those jeans you know the ones you don't have to ask "Do these jeans make me look fat?" By the way I haven't been watching the young and the restless I'm wondering if Victor Newman has changed his mind and decided to stick around.
I couldn't resist hitting the links yesterday. I grabbed my clubs and off I went to Flamborough golf course and it was a perfect October day, sunshine, a warm breeze and millions and millions of lady bugs everywhere from my clubs, to the inside of the golf cart to my clothes. I guess the warm weather has brought those little bugs to town. i don't think I've ever seen so many of them around. As usual my golf game has gone horribly wrong but it was a great day to be outside and I did score a shot that'll bring me back to the course once again. I finished off my day with Curb Your Enthusiasm and Californication which are 2 totaling different shows with one common thread, insanely funny!
When Matt and I are the air he is always making of fun of the fact that I keep speeding up the seasons, the holidays and time in general. I'll tell you why. I was listening to my voice mails this morning and I had received a request for an event in February. That's the way this business works, almost like the retail business where the second Halloween is over you'll start to see Christmas trees, music and egg nog everywhere you turn. I gotta admit, I've already put together a few little gifts for some of my pals this Christmas and I bought a magazine with Christmas cookies on it. It caught my eye and I had to grab it right? You might as well enjoy this fury of activity now because it'll only get more hectic.
My hubby and I took advantage of the nice weather yesterday to clean the windows. It was so lovely outside, with the sunshine and the light breeze. I was at the bay Burlington mall, Saturday for a couple of hours for bay days and the grand opening of their expanded men's dept. You know me and shopping. I've been busy reading for the K-Lite book club look for my video blog attached to this blog next week I'll be reviewing Patrick Swayze's book the time of my life. The book is great and full of hope. He was a tremendous human being. Watched a great movie on the weekend called nothing but the truth. It was fabulous and starred Kate Beckinsale, Matt Dillon and David Schwimmer. A must see movie to the very end!!!
Its funny when you get a holiday Monday off, you suddenly have lost total track of what day it is. I know one thing, I'm definitely finding I'm adding an extra item of clothing everyday as it gets a little cooler everyday(I even wore gloves) Matt and I were talking about this last week, and I've been watching faithfully. I'm talking about the soap the young and the restless and the impending exit of one of the most popular characters in soap opera history, Victor Newman. After yesterday's episode it looked like the poor man was a goner but remember this is soap opera land where characters rise from the dead all the time. Who knows if this is really true plus last night I caught episode 4 of Curb your enthusiasm and it just gets funnier and funnier. I love Larry David's humour, he's a rotten character but so incredibly likable! That show makes me laugh form beginning to end! I haven't seen a show that does that to me in a long time.

It sure was nice to have Thanksgiving Monday off. We as broadcasters don't usually get the Monday off so it was a real treat to spend extra time with my family. My hubby and I spent the first part of the holiday getting the backyard in order by removing our patio furniture and packing it up for the season, a process that took the better part of Saturday. We were so tired at the end of the day; we didn't have enough energy to eat which was great because we made up for it on at my mom's family thanksgiving dinner. We did a cold and bitter bike ride yesterday morning and came home to watch to watch the Ti Cat game. I have a lot to be thankful for, a great house, a great husband and family and a great life. I hope you were thankful this holiday weekend!

I finally realized yesterday why I love playing golf so much. My hubby and I hit the links knowing it was going to be one of the last days to golf (not forever but with the weather it's hit and miss) and we were paired with another pair of golfers because it was a busy day and although my golf game will always need work, we met a couple of nice people and the 4 of us enjoyed a beautiful day of golf filled with fun and a lot of laughs. I think I just love what golf does for those who love it. It frustrates us, makes us happy and there's always one shot that brings us back again. The president's cup is on this weekend, so that means golf on TV, putting away all the patio furniture, watching the Ti Cats on Monday beat the Bombers, and of course I can't forget a fabulous thanksgiving feast with my family. Have a great holiday weekend!!!!

I don't want to put away my golf clubs for the season but it looks like it's coming soon. Today I'm off to play at Willow Valley, no it's not a tournament - can you believe it. My hubby and I are playing to enjoy a great looking fall day and hopefully for me have a great game as well. This Thanksgiving weekend we put away the lawn furniture for the season. It's just that time of year, the sweaters come out of hibernation and I found myself in front of the fireplace reading my book and enjoying the warmth of being inside. We find ourselves drawn to the indoors this time of year so do what I'm doing when it's raining and cooler grab a good book and don't forget to check out my video book of the month blog!

Each month you'll have a chance to win a copy of the book I review. My first review is a must for your teen aged daughter or son called The Secret to Teen Power by Paul Harrington. I'm a reader and I can't get enough of sitting down to a book whether it's a biography or teaching something about life. It's one of the most relaxing like I like to do which for me is unbelievable. My hubby and I watched Curb your Enthusiasm last night (the episode with the Seinfeld cast). You know what - it was as I expected quirky and funny. Seinfeld followers were probably a little disappointed but not me ... I loved it!

This weekend is a busy one, especially Sunday when Aiko, Michelle Quinn, myself, Lynda Beno (a K-Lite staffer) walk and run for the CIBC Run for the Cure in Burlington. The money raised goes to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. It's a 5k walk and then I'm off to Michelangelo's banquet centre for the Festitalia Moda Italia fashion show featuring Fashion designer Franco Mirabelli. It's a sold out affair and a portion of the proceeds go to the Abruzzo Earthquake relief fund. Have a great weekend!!

My sure sign that summer is over is the arrival of my last golf tournament. I'm not saying golf season is over but the days will get limited due to the change of seasons. Today's tourney is at Willow Valley and it's the Neighbour to Neighbour tournament which helps individuals and their families on their path to a better life. I finally got caught up on some HBO shows I hadn't seen yet , like the 2nd episode of Larry David which was hilarious, Entourage which I just love (not sure if this is the last episode) and Californication with David Dukovny which had a very uneventful start. Maybe it'll get better because I think Dukovny is great on this show!

The weekend flew again and I found myself thinking about the right weekend to start packing up the patio furniture. Despite the showers thru out the weekend, my hubby and I still managed to check out the Ancaster Fair at its new home at highway 2 and 52. It was packed with parents, kids the smells of that great fair food like deep fried mars bars! The location is much bigger and really gives you chance to see what this traditional fair has been about all these years. I was on location Sunday at the new Walmart location in Waterdown and by the time I left it was quite busy as well. This week marks the end of September and my last golf tournament of the season.

I didn't think it was going to happen but it turned out to be a fantastic day for the Camp Maple leaf golf tourney at Willow Valley yesterday. Aside from the strong winds it was a beautiful day and I'm sure the funds raised yesterday will continue to help send kids to camp who wouldn't normally get that chance. I played one of my worst games but on the last hole i was able to hit a shot that'll get me back on the course! I'm so excited today because yesterday, was also the start of the international film festival in conjunction with Festitalia and the art gallery of Hamilton. I'll be at the showing of Valentino: the Last Emperor. It should be great and to find out about the great films just go to art gallery of Hamilton for the list and to purchase tickets. It's been a awhile since I hit the golf course and it's just trying to find a spare 4 hours or so to play Today I'll be playing at Willow Valley and it's at a sold out golf tourney called the Camp Maple leaf Golf Classic - this tourney will help send children to camp maple leaf. It's a chance to experience some great adventures and memories for kids who wouldn't normally get that opportunity. Camp maple leaf has already helped send over 30,000 children to camp. It'll be a very sticky day but I'm really looking forward to it. I can't believe what a nostalgia junkie I am. Along with the constant Seinfeld episodes I watch, I'm now watching old episodes of Cheers which by the way I was hooked on when it originally ran. These shows still keep me laughing my head off!

I'm so glad Mother Nature decided to give us unsettled weather after the weekend. Saturday was beautiful and yesterday was perfect, warm temperatures, a very light breeze and a good day to go apple picking. My husband, step kids and camera took off to Meyer's apple farm for a bag of Mac apples. The folks at the farm were saying the apples are late this season by about a week or so. It was fun and the place was packed. I caught the Ti cat win on Friday night and I saw the opening monologue at last night's Emmy awards with Neil Patrick Harris. He was actually not bad and he appeared to be very comfortable on stage singing and dancing away. I only caught the first award presentation and I was asleep not so much because of the show but because I spent the entire day outside and loved every minute of it!

I just love what Mother Nature is doing for us so far this month. Since summer was a wash out, this month has been spectacular. I was the emcee for the 2nd annual bright/run at Dundas valley conservation area and there was a record over 1200 participants and the organizers think well over 300,000 dollars was raised. The money went to the Juravinski cancer centre and was for research into breast cancer I even ran into a lady I've known for years and had no idea she was a survivor. It was a very emotional event. I was so thrilled and honored to be there and to meet the beautiful smiling survivors and their families. By the way what a fabulous Ti Cat game the other night, okay they didn't win but man was it a nail biter!!

Have you ever sat around and talked with your friends and found out that someone you knew got a job that you never thought they was right for them? That's what I thought when i read that talk show host and comedian Ellen Degeneres has been chosen an American Idol judge to replace Paula Abdul . I thought how does someone with no singing or writing ability judge other upcoming singing stars. But I think I realized Ellen has the ability to attract a whole new audience to the show because as you know the ratings have been slipping a bit (it's still a number one show). She'll also give the show some humour and Ellen is a music lover. She'll probably open the show with a few dance routines!

Well, hard to believe - but this is it, kids!! You know what I'm talking about...sleeping in, no schedule, staying up as late as you like. It's back to school after one more long weekend. Although the forecast looks a little iffy, enjoy this long weekend and maybe think about how you help make the transition back to long line ups to use the only washroom in the house easier. I don't want to sound like it's time to close the pool, put away the patio furniture and go to bed early. I just think summer's great fun and so is back to school. My greatest memories as a teenager have been those spent at school with great friends and then making new ones when I left for college. Those are memories that stay with you forever.

I attended the opening ceremonies for the 34th annual Festitalia activities and I gotta tell you it's filled with great events for the food lover, music lover and movie lover. During the ceremony last night the mayor spoke and he was also waiting to hear about the Balsillie decision which according to the Spectator this morning indicates that Hamitlon is still in the hunt for the Phoenix Coyotes. I'll have to read on to get a full grasp of this very complicated situation. Festitalia is not complicated and the best way to find out about all the great events is to log onto festitalia.com. The weekend started out miserably as expected with the heavy rain and cooler temperatures but by Sunday it was back to fall like conditions. I was so thrilled to be asked to come out and play (along with my hubby) in the first annual temple Anshe Sholom golf fundraiser for a couple of causes, number 1 to make environmental upgrades to the temple and number 2 to the disabled veterans of Israel- a non profit organization that helps rehabilitate wounded Israeli soldiers and their families. My husband and I golfed with Sean Davis a fabulous golfer and Mark Girardo, CPGA who was absolutely fabulous. Did I mention we played at Glen Abbey, yes the same course Tiger woods played in and won the candadian Open in 2000. It was one of my favourite golf days ever. Thanks Sean for the invite!!!

This will be the 13th year for the Birdies for Babies charity golf tournament in support of the Neo natal intensive care unit at McMaster's children's hospital. I'm very thrilled to be playing with Dr Peter Fitzgerald at Flamborough Hills Golf and country club in Copetown. Jeff Moore is the head pro at Flamborough and his son had to use the N-ICU when he was a baby. It will be a fabulous day for golf but more importantly this is for a very important cause.
Well, you know Matt loves to tease me about my TV habits. I have a PVR I rarely use and I watch series TV in the middle - for instance Nurse Jackie is a new show with Edie Falco (from the Sopranos) and it's new and there have been about 5 or 6 episodes already so I decided to watch the current episode I had never seen any of the other full episodes just bits and pieces and I'm hooked. I love the show. It drives Matt nuts because he can't figure out how I can enjoy part of a show and not all of it. Hey that's me. By the way, I came in to work and the new Canadian Farmer's almanac was sitting on desk. What will this winter bring? I'll tell you later on the Sunni and Hayes show...

I'm on the air solo this week as Matt is off for probably the last time this summer. We'll be into September and all that back to school stuff. We were in Collingwood this past weekend to visit friends, play golf and see how the ski village at Collingwood has grown. There's a new Weston hotel there and it was packed with people. Who says we're in a recession? We did a bit of hiking and eating of course. Then it was back to much cooler weather and I did a bit of gardening in between bouts of rain. It was a great weekend!
What a wild Thursday it turned out to be. I spent a fabulous day with my sisters, my neice and parents in Fort Erie and as soon as we got back to town, the skies got dark then it was an unbelievable wind
which was then followed by vicious rain .
We have a fair amount of trees in the backyard so there were branches just about everywhere. The lightning show was incredibale as well. I think I spent most of the night worrying about losing power and not waking up in time to get to work but I got here and I'm ready for the weekend.
My hubby and I are off to Collingwood with friends this weekend. Matt is off next week and I'm at the helm.
Enjoy the weekend!!!!!!!!!!!
Yesterday was a day like any other day but I found that it felt so much warmer because right after I finished cutting the lawn, I had to sit down for a couple of minutes and drink a ton of water. That might just have been old age. I also picked my tomatoes; my husband and I planted 4 grape tomato plants and we have a ton of them. So it's tomato everything for the next few weeks.
We rented a very odd movie last night called "A Crime" with Harvey Keitel (who I just think is just so incredible in everything he's in). But this movie was "out there". It came out a couple of years ago so if you're into a dark, wierd and yet you can't stop watching type of flick, this is the one for you.
By the way, our Sunni and Hayes cruise is setting sail on October 31st; Call Bob O'Connnor at Cruise Ship Centres at 905-318-2270 for more info.
I know I probably should have cut the lawn yesterday but I decided to sit in the shade and take a short rest before I headed out to Carlisle and the 4th annual "Keys for Tees" golf tourney. It was probably one of the most interesting and exciting golf tourneys I've ever been a part of. You play 18 par 3's which means 18 tries at a hole in one and 18 tries at a car. No one won a car but one golfer got within 4 inches of one of the holes. Proceeds from this tourney went to Drummond House and The Coping Centre in Cambridge. A special thanks to the kind folks at Quality Oak, pine and maple furniture in Campbellville and to Brian Hall who has a great committee and worked tirelessly to make this tourney an exciting one!!!!!
I witnessed something I've never seen before, late yesterday evening around 6:30. Right after the sun showers, an absolutely beautiful rainbow appeared covering one end of town to the other. It was spectacular to see. Today is looking great for the Cancer Assistance Program and their annual tourney up at Carlisle Golf Course. I'll be dropping by for about 6pm to get the evening started just before dinner is served.
I'm hoping to do some golfing of my own over the next couple of days because the forecast is looking great.
I was watching an entertainment feature last night on the Toronto Film Fest and all the great new movies coming this year including one called New York, I Love You...it looks really interesting and it's full of well known actors and actresses.
Speaking of festivals, the Dundas Cactus Festival hit record numbers last year and I think it will again this weekend.
It's the weather we've been waiting for...hot & sticky with lots of sunshine!!!! I never thought I'd spend so much time talking to friends about the weather but it really has played a major role in re-arranging
our summer outdoor plans.
Hey, I hate to mention it but the school stuff is out everywhere and yes, there's still what 3 weeks before you start back but the clothes (if there is a school that doesn't wear uniforms), school supplies are everywhere.
I keep seeing TV ads for new shows coming this fall which means sometime in September/October.
Speaking of the end of October, would yoiu like to join Matt & I on our 15th anniversary cruise to the south of France? Just call Bob O'connor at Cruiseship Centers on Upper Wentworth Street...he has all the details. It'll be blast!!!!!!!

It was great to have Matt back yesterday from his 2 week vacation but since August is here we can all expect more empty spaces at work as we all try to get as much summer time off till it's back to the September schedule of kids, making lunches and racing to the bathroom before everyone else. I needed to do a bit sewing yesterday believe it or not, after I bought some curtain panels that were a little longer than I thought. I often wonder who sews anymore, you know when I was young I used to make my own clothes. I couldn't wait to create something to wear but then stores with huge sales came along and made it easier for me to just buy a bargain basement item. Bob and I tried to watch the Samuel L. Jackson movie that came out last year called Lakeview terrace and there was something wrong with the video. I gotta find out how this weird movie ends...

Absolutely no complaints about this long weekend - non-stop sunshine, the smell of the bbq and the sounds of pool parties all over my neighbourhood. My hubby and I did one of our longest bike rides. We parked our car at Joe Brant hospital in Burlington and biked to Wild waterworks. It was fun and everyone one was out walking, rollerblading and having picnics. Yesterday, my girlfriend and I walked over to Webster's falls and everyone was there as well and there were bbqs everywhere and people out walking with their kids and pets. It sure was a great long weekend and we thank Matt hayes for that and we'll do just that because he's back with us this morning so we'll catch up!

You couldn't have asked for a better looking day than yesterday and it was picture perfect for golf. It was the radio stations client appreciation golf day, so I had the opportunity to play as well and despite playing rather sloppy, the company was great and the day was spectacular. I'm only hoping we'll see a couple more days of this. The Ti Cat shave a perfect night for a home game against BC and did you hear that actor Jeremy Piven from one of the best shows on HBO "ENTOURAGE ' became an honourary Argo last night. Come on Ti Cat staff, he was obviously in Toronto last night. It's time to our people in touch with his people and make him an honorary member of one of the best teams in the CFL!!!!!

It really has been a weird summer for weather. We've had cooler temperatures and rain while the heat has been unbelievable in Europe and across the U.S. The long weekend is coming up and I told my husband, let's not plan anything and maybe it'll end up being a spectacular weekend for biking, walking fishing or whatever outdoor event (oh yes I forgot golf) you usually plan when the long weekend comes. My biggest pleasure so far this year has been developing and re-creating my rock garden in our back yard It's been a work in progress for the past few years and finally it actually looks like a well organized garden with beautiful colours and if I have to spend the rest of the summer sitting in my Muskoka chair looking out at my labor of love, I'll be very happy!!!!!

When Matt says it's always nice when he's on vacation, he's right. Yesterday was the 5th annual IRC golf tourney at Dundas valley golf and curling club and it was probably the first in 5 years where it actually didn't start pouring rain. It turned out to be a gorgeous day. A cheque for 40,000 dollars was presented to Todd Bender of City Kidz, an organization that helps kids in the east end of Hamilton. Special thanks to Marybeth, Joan and Jill, my golf team. We won lowest score for the ladies team and it wasn't because of me. I may have provided the comic relief which is always an essential part of the game right?

My fingers are crossed that it will be a beautiful day for the annual IRC golf tourney for City Kidz at Dundas Valley golf and curling club. City Kidz is a fabulous organization and to learn more about it log onto citykidz.ca. I was out and about yesterday and retail stores are already getting ready for fall. I know we haven't seen summer and already the signs of back to school and the fall season. We also have to remember this is the last week of July so the push is on to prepare for a busy September. I'm already getting asked to do fundraisers in October and believe or not in December as well. But for now I just want to enjoy a great day on the golf course for a great cause with great people. Enjoy your day as well!

I don't think we can ever stop talking about the weather after this weekend. How can you plan anything outside? What about the Canadian Open, despite the weather I couldn't believe how many golfers got holes in ones (and won cars for doing it). We had friends over for dinner on Saturday and we had to move things inside in between bouts of rain. I'm not one for sleeping in the afternoon but yesterday afternoon around 2, it got so dark I found myself drifting into a little nap because it was so overcast outside. This is the last week of July - could August mean the official arrival of summer? I know I have a couple of tournaments this week so please Mother Nature I need you to cooperate!

I found myself doing a very uncharacteristic thing yesterday. I wanted to do some gardening and as you know I couldn't because of the weather, I wanted to watch the Canadian Open and it wasn't on till well after 4pm so I decided to make Italian cookies called pizzelles which are made on kind of a waffle press. I even brought some in for morning show producer Tom to nibble on to prove I made them. As I have mentioned in the past my husband is the chef in the family, so you should have seen his face when he walked in the door and I was making cookies. He almost passed out!! So that's my example of enjoying the wet weather and doing something a little out of the ordinary!!

Last night my husband and I along with great friends went believe or not sailing in port Dover and of course it started thundering and then the rain followed. We thought there might be a chance we could get in a little sail before we got drenched but that didn't happen. Its funny how I used to love to get soaking wet in the rain when I was a kid and how much it drives me nuts as an adult. I think it's because my hair expands to twice its size. So I've decided it's time for a new ‘do. Tomorrow I'll visit my hair wizard (Rino) after the morning show and see what he creates.

I can't believe it's my parents 60 something wedding anniversary. Wow, you know they come from an era of hard work and dedication to their relationship and their kids. I so admire them for how hard they've worked to achieve a good life for our family growing up. I got married rather late in my life so I won't be able to achieve that number but I've learned a lot from my folks and I know those very common sense rules to a healthy relationship still apply today and I've used them in my relationship. Actually my husband and I did a very "couples" thing last night. My husband spotted a blueberry farm on the way home with a sign that it was open for business so we went picking several quarts later we were done and they are so good!!!!

Okay it was another rainy weekend, okay you had to maybe change or adjust your plans but who cares as log as you can enjoy the weekend whether inside or out right? Well I've been telling you about my golf lessons with Andrew Ross at Oak Gables and Saturday we played 18 holes where he rated my golf performance and I had greatly improved and Andrew knows I still a lot of moving around when I hit the ball but that's okay, it's a habit I have to break. I shot 102 and I know by the end of the golf season it will be under 100. Andrew is a great teacher - check him out at 905-648-4653. My hubby and I watched the Ti Cat game from home over the weekend and what a victory for the Cats, I can't believe it's their first two game winning streak since 2006. Go cats Go!

TGIF what week!! I always feel that way when I'm doing a few extra things but don't get me wrong I love it especially yesterday when I participated in the 14th annual VON golf tourney at the Beverly golf and country club. It was a spectacular day and my game is getting better and better. I have to tell you it's not too late to take a golf lesson or 2. It's definitely improved my game. Golf pro Andrew Ross over at Oak Gables has been great with me and I'm so pleased with how much better I've been playing. My husband and I will be playing in the tourney tomorrow at oak gables and there are still some spots available so call to book a spot at 905-648-4653. Matt will be off next week so I'm solo. Have a great weekend!

I can't believe 3 more days till I play Oak Gables with golf pro Andre Ross. It's going to be my little Canadian Open where Andrew will rate my play and see if I've listened carefully to his great golf advice and ways to improve my game. There is still room to come play in that tourney with me just call oak Gables at 905-648-4653. It's so reasonable and I know we'll all have a great day on Saturday. My husband is playing with me as well so I'm looking forward to good weather and an equally good game.

Another strange weekend for weather. Saturday, my hubby and I decided to go see an afternoon matinee because the weather was so iffy so we went to see The Hangover and it was an absolute blast to watch and there were only about 6 people in the theatre. On the way home we were driving thru Ancaster and we decided to have a bite to eat and we chose to eat indoors because it was nice and cool inside and I'm glad we did because minutes later people started running inside because of the rain and hail. Sunday was cool and gorgeous and it was time for another wonderful bike ride thru Bayfront Park and over to Cootes Paradise. Don't forget if you want to play golf at the Oak Gables tourney I'm playing in call 905-648-4653 - it's this Saturday.
I think yesterday was the nicest day of the summer so far and a perfect day for golf. I played in the 9th annual Investor's Group golf tourney at Heron Point golf course. I have mentioned that I've been taking golf lessons from Andrew Ross over at Oak Gables golf and learning centre. My husband golfed with me along with a good friend of ours both of whom I've golfed with on many occasions and both my hubby and our friend commented on how improved my play was and how consistent my shots were. That is definitely thanks to Andrew and his time and patience in getting to slow down my play and make some minor adjustments to the way I was playing so it turned out to be a great day of golf an I definitely encourage and golf nut like myself who needs their golf game tweaked to give Andrew a call at 805-648-4653. See you on the links!
As you know I've been taking golf lesson from Andrew Ross at Oak Gables Golf and Learning Centre (905-648-4653) and he's terrific! Today I play in the investors golf tourney at Heron Point and we'll see just how much I've learned and how much I've improved. I love golf and I especially love been outside on a sunny day and playing the game without any flaws (not going to happen). I just read that the old Deluxe Restaurant in downtown Dundas is been transformed to a Thai restaurant. That nostalgic restaurant will now be an updated eatery. Sorry no more film shoots with Robin Williams and Christopher Walken!!!

Today's the day, everyone will find a way to have lunch at 1pm to see at least part of what will probably be the most viewed event in TV history, the Michael Jackson funeral. It's funny, my mom still has a very prominent Italian accent and she and my dad are big TV news people so they actually always seem to know what's going in the world even before I get into work in the morning but I was chatting with her last night and she commented that she didn't think Michael was as big a star as Elvis but it just seems that for Michael's short life, he's been around for decades. My hope is that with today's funeral, Michael's memory will be his music and his ground breaking foray in music videos which really started a whole new trend. It would be ridiculous to think that the TV coverage would end and we could all get back to work but unfortunately the scandals will live on.
The forecast called for rain yesterday so golf seemed unlikely because we all decided not to get caught
in a potential thunderstorm. Then...it turns to just clouds so I end up watching the AT&T National golf tourney hosted by Tiger Woods. It was the tournament that made me realize that Andrew Ross the golf pro at Oak Gables in Ancaster ((905) 648-4653) had taught me a valuable lesson last week when he was teaching how to improve my putting. He drew an imaginary line to the hole so I'd learn to putt straight and when the cameras focused on Tiger they showed an imaginary line so viewers could see how precise his putting was. Today is lesson number 3 and I feel confident about what I've learned so far. Andrew's a great teacher and I just want to shave off a few strokes from my game, i'm certainly not headed for the LPGA!!!!!
This weekend finds me on a biking wine tour details on Monday!!!!
Have a Great Weekend.

If your Canada Day plans included the Ticat home opener, you were definitely disappointed. The good news is that it wasn't quite a shut out for the Argos and attendance looked good last night.
My husband and I decided to try to cut the grass in between the periods of rain and I think my whole neighbourhood was doing the same thing because it's just been so hard to find a stretch of weather without any showers attached to it.
I hope everyone's pet survived the fireworks last night. I know dogs and cats can get a little scared at the sounds of those fireworks and I heard them so it must have been clear enough last night.
Thanks to everyone who dropped by St. Joe's Hospital on Tuesday for the unveiling of the second phase of the baby wall with one of its star babies...Matt Hayes!!!
This morning I'm off to St. Joseph's Hospital for the unveiling of more well known babies born
at the hospital. This is a project started by Teresa Cascioli and is a fund raiser for the hosipital. Both Matt and I will be there for the unveiling of Matt as a little tike on the wall along with our
TALK820 morning show host Jason Farr. If you'd like to attend, the ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. today.
I started watching TV last night and had to turn it off because it was just too much Michael Jackson
and too many different stories circulating from one entertainment program to another. It's such a sad end to the life of such a talented singer/performer. The real focus should on the care of Michael's 3 children.
In that fabulous heat yesterday, I had my second gold lesson with Andrew Ross over at Oak Gables Golf Club and learning centre. It was all about putting yesterday...Andrew drew a stright line to the hole to help me set my feet properly and swing the club like a pendulum. You know what, it was a great way
for me to see that it's not just about smacking the golf ball around. I've been taking my time swinging the club like a pendulum and my shots were alot more accurate than they've been in the past. So I'm feeling better about my game and you can too...if you want to see Andrew about a few lessons call him at 905-648-4653.
I'm at Lastman's Bad Boy this Saturday from 9am til 1pm in Burlington so drop by for a chat and some great deals.
Can't wait to watch the rain on my plants this afternoon.
S.
I was planning to go golfing yesterday because the forecast was perfect (sunshine, no wind and
hot) but I took a look at my backyard garden and realized I had better clear out the weeds before they take over. It turned out to be an all day affair.
Today is my second golf lesson with Andrew Ross over at Oak Gables Golf Academy. Last week, we worked on my swing; I think today we'll do some putting. I'm really looking forward to it because I've finally realized the only way I'm going to be consistent in my game (aside from playing regularly) is to correct the way I've been playing. I really like the way Andrew teaches so if you need a few lessons check out their website at oakgables.com. I'll let you know how I make out!!!
You know what is really starting to motivate me these days? It sounds so silly but each day I make a list of things I want to get done for the day and I even add a few extra things just in case i get a bit more motivated on that particular day. Yesterday, for example, I had a list a mile long and I managed to get it all done. I wasn't trying to do it all, but I had boundless amounts of energy so I thought "today my list is clear so I'll do what ever I want and not feel any pressure". Do me a favour and just try it; you won't end up saying "oh I forgot to do this and I forgot to pick up that".
By the way ladies (and gentlemen) did I mention I had my first golf lesson over at Oak Gables in Ancaster with golf pro Andrew and he's great . He works on one thing at a time and I feel like by the end of the summer I'll be on my way to cracking 100.
What about you?
Enjoy the sweet weather today.

It was a very busy Friday heading into the weekend; I was at the "Make it Seven" rally and it was
fabulous, almost 5,000 people at Jackson Square's rooftop. I hope the enthusiasm of the fans will
bring an NHL team to Hamilton.
Friday afternoon I had a golf lesson with Andrew Ross at Oak Gables and I'll tell you I needed it. He was great and he made me realize how important it is to take a practice shot!
Friday night was the "Relay for Life" at the new Ancaster Fairgounds and it was a very emotional night. There were a lot of tears of joy for cancer research. Hats off to the organizers.
Father's Day was spent with my step kids, my husband, my dad and all the sisters and brothers . It was truly a Father's Day feast!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enjoy this Heat wave!

A very special thanks to all who dropped by Lastman's bay boys yesterday in Burlington while I was there and I'll be there live tomorrow morning from 9am till 1pm. I'm planning to be everywhere this weekend. Today at noon, you know that it's a must if you a half hour or so and want to see an NHL team in Hamilton. It's the Make it seven rally at Jackson square on the rooftop. Tonight is also important for me as I attend the opening ceremonies of the relay for life in Ancaster for Cancer. If you're going, I applaud you and if you want to make a donation just log onto the relay for life website. My fingers are crossed that it's going to be a good golf day as I participate in the woodbine entertainment group's annual golf tourney at Royal woodbine club. It's a wonderful tourney filled with media from all over the Toronto/Hamilton area and it's a chance to enjoy a great day of golf, food and good company. Don't forget the 150th running of the Queen's Plate is this Sunday at Woodbine. It's the Canadian version of the Kentucky Derby. It might be a nice idea for Father's day. I'm still stumped as to what I'll get my dad this year. My dad like so many other parents always says the same thing, I don't need anything. My sister is having a family gathering on Sunday with the entire family and I know my dad will love that more than any other gift!!

What a hot one yesterday and a badly needed one as well. I didn't realize there were so many convertibles in this city!! I went to a meeting last night for the Relay for Life which will take place this Friday night at the new Ancaster fairgrounds. This event starts at 7pm and runs until the following morning at 7am there should be hundreds of folks who have raised money for cancer research. It's one of the most overwhelming events to witness because this event represents a victory for the cancer survivors who are at this event with family and friends. There's still time to round up a team, I'll be there Friday night, check out the relay for life website and we'll see you Friday night!

Well the trouble with vacations is that when you get back the work load seems to triple. My husband and 4 other couples went off to Lake Tahoe on a trip we had bid on when I was an emcee for the SPCA dinner last fall. We saw South Lake Tahoe, along with Virginia city, Truckee, Placerville, Reno and while we were in downtown Lake Tahoe, all we had to do was cross the street and we were in California so we went to a couple of wineries. It was lovely to see snow capped mountains while the sun shun brightly. A vision I will never forget. It was a lovely trip and it was wonderful to see how much Americans love Canadians. It was also very cool and it was delightful yesterday to have dinner out on the patio. I hope you did the same thing. By the way Matt is on vacation so I'm flying solo for 2 weeks!!!

It was a very successful Tim Horton's camp day yesterday. Thanks to Debbie and Aaron Birch from the Timmy's location we broadcast from in the meadowlands of Ancaster and to folks who came in to buy a coffee to send some deserving kids to camp. 9 Million dollars was raised last year and hopefully that was surpassed. I also accomplished something yesterday, each morning Matt brings in the Timmies coffee and I always take my coffee with 1 cream and 1 milk (to cut the cream fat content) , matt always has his with double cream and double sugar, so he actually tried to have his coffee with one cream and one milk and he liked it. He still has double sugar but that was an accomplishment. I feel like a personal trainer!!!
It's interesting that last week when I turned the big 50, I was asked how I felt, did I feel older, wiser or just plain old and my response to that is the aging process is part of life and I can keep myself as healthy as possible to feel better but I like everyone else are aging. I had a woman who asked to become my friend on facebook, I agreed and she wished me a happy belated birthday and said she too would be 50 in July and was looking forward to it. So don't get wrapped around the number, it's not important. What is important is that you join me, Matt, Peter and Aiko as we broadcast live from Tim Horton's in the Meadowlands (the Timmy's next to Wendy's) for camp day. Tomorrow is the one day of each year when every penny from coffee sales at Tim's stores goes to the Tim Horton Children's foundation. See you there!!
What a wild weekend for wind, rain and sunshine. Friday was unbelievable and late Saturday was a sight as well but thank goodness the sun was around for the Aldershot Festival. I officially got the rubber duck race started which was fun to watch and there`s nothing like the smell of carnival food!! My husband and I managed to get the rest of the gardening and planting done before the rainfall. Then it was already Sunday and I woke up hearing that that British sensation Susan Boyle had not won on Britain`s got talent and you know what - she looked quite happy about it. I wanted to see Jay`s last show but I knew it really wasn`t his last show, he`s just taking a break and back in the fall at an earlier time. The weekend came to a close with the CH Mac Kids telethon that ran Sunday from 1 till 7pm. I was so happy to see so many volunteers and donations. Great job Hamilton!!
There's something to be said about taking a couple of days off in the middle of the week. I took Wednesday and Thursday off and this morning I feel great. I was on a bit of a road trip to Ottawa and Montreal and it was quick but I gotta tell you every time My husband and I drive that way I can't believe just how beautiful Ontario is and I'm so I n love with Montreal because you feel like you're in Europe without having to change your money over to Euros. This is a busy weekend, tomorrow I'll be at the Aldershot festival for the duck races (the park where the festival is on plains road in Burlington on Howard Street across from where the old Zellers was) and then Sunday it's the CH Telethon which will run from 1pm till 7pm so check it out and have a great weekend.

I can't believe we're coming up to the end of May already. We've waited so long for this great weather and time is flying by. I don't know about you but this spring and summer more than ever both my husband and I have really focused on making our backyard our retreat and a place to have a "staycation," which is a word used to describe not going away for the summer on a vacation and just enjoying your backyard and all its beauty. You should try it, it's cheaper and you'd be surprised how relaxing it is. I'll be away Wednesday and Thursday, heading to Montreal to see my niece graduate from McGill University but I'll be back on Friday with this weekend's rundown. Matt will be on air to make your mornings.

Well, Saturday came and went so did my 50th birthday but I must say it was a great day. Best wishes from my friends who I love, as well as my family and my husband and I played golf and ordered take out for dinner. It was lovely and perfect way to spend my 50th. Matt and I also celebrated 15 years working together which is hard to believe but we did it and we're both looking forward to another 15 right Matt? We'd like to thank the folks who dropped Angela's Place at 320 Tragina to deliver toys, children's books and kid's clothes for young teen mothers and if you have anything like that to donate just call Angela's Place and they'll gladly tell you how to deliver the items. What a shocker, not that I'm a devoted viewer of American idol but you didn't need to even watch any this year's idol to know that Adam Lambert was favoured hands down to win and it ended up being Kris Allen. Wow, never say never right? Another shocker is the price of gas, as temperatures rise so do the gas prices and there isn't anything you can do. You've got a cottage and you need gas to get there. I took my mind off the high prices and just enjoyed the great weather, planting the last of my herbs in the vegetable garden, followed by painting a few outdoor chairs and then trimming the hedges and I'll tell you the end result put a smile on my face. Put a smile on someone else's face by dropping by to see Matt and me at Angela's Place tomorrow morning from 5:30 till 9am. We'll be accepting donations, so you'll find us at 320 Tragina at Barton. I know you'll come out and support us!

We have to thank Matt Hayes for this fabulous weather because when it's bad outside he's the first person we blame like he has the power to give us rain, sunshine and gusty winds. My husband and I decided we'd get aggressive and buy our annuals and start planting. Our backyard still needs a lot of work so we spent the early evening digging and even got the basil and tomato plants in the vegetable garden. What a sense of accomplishment!! My body aches but as I told my step kids last night, it's a good ache!!! i happened to watch a bit of American idol. You know I always watch a show when it's near the end and I couldn't believe the cameras turned to the audience and Anthony Hopkins was in the audience. It's surprising the fans of this show!!! A reminder that Matt and I will be live at Angela's place, a new centre in conjunction with the Good Shepard centre, log onto our website k-litefm.com for more details. Matt and I will see you there!

It may have been a cold weekend but the sun was shining and that didn't stop those of us who still hadn't put out the lawn furniture yet. That little job got done along with a trip to Toronto on Sunday to see the Blue Jays beat the White Sox 8-2. The Rogers Centre was howling!! The garden centres were packed with people but I couldn't see buying plants with this weather being cool one day and warm the next. Let me tell you about a great workout and it doesn't cost much (okay you need a shovel) I dug my daisies and transplanted them to another area of my property. It was up and down and up and down an exhausting but satisfying workout. I know the fireworks were last night but I heard fireworks all weekend, I hope your pets were okay with the banging. Hey don't forget with all the hoopla about a possible Hamilton NHL team why not join makeitseven.ca and learn more about what's happening with updates and how you can get involved and by the way I actually watched the season finale of survivor the other night!!

What a great night at Michelangelo's last night it was called a cosmopolitan affair, a fashion show put on by the rotary club of Ancaster for charity. There were well over 500 people there for a fabulous night of good food and fashion. Earlier in the day I was out pulling out weeds and more importantly those pesky yellow dandelions that look pretty from far away but they bury themselves in your front lawn every year and it takes forever to pull them out. I've got a lot more yard work ahead of me this long weekend. My lilacs are starting to get ready to bloom. I can't wait to cut a beautiful bunch of lilacs and set them on the dining room table!! I'm back at Michelangelo's for the "Yes I Can" Awards tonight!!!

The great thing about a vacation is you can go away and forget about checking the time because you don't have to be anywhere for any reason and you can forget about cell phones, blackberrys and anything else that keeps reminding us of work. I got back to work this morning and I was so relaxed that I forgot my password into my computer. I had to have had a great trip to forget that important part of my job! My husband and I were in sunny St Marten to see visit my niece who is teaching down there and it was beautiful. This is low season so it was quiet on this half Dutch/half French island. I must tell you that since this swine flu situation, people are flogging the airports with masks and are definitely washing their hands a lot more and there is disinfectant everywhere but that's a good thing. Everyone is cautious but still travelling and that's what you have to remember. I'm happy to be back and I'll be the emcee at the am rotary club of Ancaster show at Michelangelo's on Wednesday night, see you there.

In years gone by, our 3 radio stations collectively have raised 1, 300,000 and yesterday Astral Media made a decision to host a one day Radiothon that brought in 225,000 dollars which was fantastic for McMaster children's hospital and for the people in this community and the surrounding area who use the hospital. We are so fortunate to have a facility like this in Hamilton and it services over 2 million people outside the area as well. So today I'm proud of the great people in the city who called to become part of the Mac kids club and to the folks who came by and told us their stories of courage we thank them and all the volunteers who worked tirelessly both at all 3 of our astral media stations and at Mac Kids hospital. By the way matt and i will be at Lowe's on Saturday from 9am till 1pm and then I'm off to the bay Burlington mall from 1 till 5pm for the mother's day gala. And finally I'll be off next week to spend a week doing a whole lot of nothing!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent all of Tuesday horizontal. I woke up at my usual early hour and I couldn't focus, I was very dizzy, with hot and cold sweats. I knew I wasn't going to make to work. I was sick a bit over the weekend and I thought I'd be okay but it hit me hard yesterday. I went to my doctor first thing in the morning and she said this is a virus that has to pass through me, so I have to get as much rest as possible. All I did was sleep which is something I'm not good at. I'll tell everything is related to sleep. I didn't have a choice, yesterday I slept all day and I do feel much better today but I know now that no matter how well you think you can take care of your body, you can catch something. I made sure I didn't have anything major by checking with my doctor. Speaking of doctor's Matt and I will be at Mac kid's hospital tomorrow for Radiothon which will run from 6am till 6pm. Please become a member of the Mac Kids Club!!!! I forgot to mention I'll be over at the Bay Mapleview today for the unveiling of their Olson line for ladies see you there at noon!

Matt and I would like to thank the over 400 people who attended the St. Joe's villa gala at Liuna Station on Friday night. They surpassed last year's attendance and it just goes to show you the kindness and generosity of this community!! Canadian actress Jayne Eastwood was the honorary chair of the event and she was lovely as ever. I was also at OLG slots at Flamboro Downs on Friday night for the first of many Ladies Friday night s that run every Friday till May 29th. Check K-Lite fm for more details on how you can win a weekend in Chicago to see Oprah live!! I always boast the fact that I never get sick well this past Saturday I caught something and I was down for the count. You know that achy feeling, fever and hot and cold spells. Sunday was my recovery day. You know the best medicine is rest!!!!

I'd like to thank the folks who came out to the 7th Annual Magic Dot Gala at Carmen's last night. It was a great night! I'd like to say a special hello to Lori and Henry from Hamilton Limosine who supported this great CNIB event.
So I must tell, with this being Earth Day, I have made a list of what I've done to live a greener life, not only for myself but for my family. We are very aware of recycling and we have our seperate garbage bins set up...you wouldn't believe how much less garbage we have every week. My car has a supply of green grocery/shopping bags so no matter where I go, I can use the bags for my groceries or any other items I may purchase elsewhere. I shut down my computer when it's not in use and I'll be cutting my front lawn with a push lawn mower...I almost forgot that I have an aluminum water bottle (i"ve actually had the aluminium bottle for a couple of years) It's easy to go green. Try it...you'll like it!!!!!

These are difficult times so imagine how difficult it is for fundraisers to reach financial goals every year. Take the M.S. walk over the weekend (for example)...crowds came with their family, friends and even their pets to raise money and it happened! I was in Burlington and there were well over 600 people and over 140,000 dollars raised .
Tonight I will MC the Magic Dot Gala at Carmen's for the CNIB . It's the 7th Annual and it's a major fundraiser for the CNIB so I'm very excited that people have purchased tickets to this very important event.
I had to watch the Habs/Bruins game last night and what a buzz in Montreal. It was a sea of red in the Bell Centre packed to capacity but sadly the Canadians just couldn't win it. I keep telling myself, it ain't over til it s over...right?

What a busy weekend!!!! I went golfing on Friday for the first time this season out at Flamborough Hills and the course is in great shape...I wish my game was. But I must say when I play for the first time I don"t keep track of my score so I can just focus on my game and I was okay for the first time.
Matt and I had a little visitor named Marshmallow, a very friendly nine foot albino python which I was a little scared of. But Dominic, the reptile guy was great and he dropped by to tell us the reptile show will take place this Sunday at the Legion on upper Wentworth across from Limeridge mall. You can see Matt and me with Marshmallow by just checking us out on facebook or Youtube, the link is above!! Sunday, I'm walking the MS 10 km walk in Burlington. It starts at Robert Bateman School and I hope you'll join me, Or Peter Jaycock in Stoney Creek or there is a walk on Hamilton Mountain well. Just go to the k-lite website and you'll get all the info. I'll also be bartending this weekend with Bob Cowan from CH over at the Thirsty Cactus on Saturday night. Bob and I will be there from 9 till 10 Pm and we're raising money for Mac children's hospital so please drop by!!
Matt's Mother's Turkey Hint:
1. cook turkey
2. freeze leftover turkey and stuffing
3. take out of freezer a day or so ahead and gradually thaw out in the fridge
4. once thawed get a pan and line with iceberg lettuce leaf
5. put thawed turkey on top of lettuce leaves and lay another layer of lettuce on top
6. cover with foil to seal in heat and moisture7.
I'm sure there are a lot of aching backs from this weekend's snow. I looked out the window of my house on Friday and the neighbourhood kids were sledding down the hills in the back yard and enjoying every minute of the wind, snow and cold air. We had to suspend our united way auction on Friday and we'll resume it this morning. I'm excited about our Sunni and Hayes Christmas open house tomorrow morning at Limeridge Mall, please drop by. We'll be singing carols, and waiting for Santa and we may even see a few surprises. I also saw Mamma Mia the movie this past weekend with my step kids. Meryl Streep is a good singer and Pierce Brosnan was miscast for sure. Matt and I volunteered yesterday along with our kids at the Good Sheppard centre's annual Christmas dinner at the convention centre. It was so nice to see so many volunteers!!!
Matt's Mother's Turkey Hint:
If you were dreaming of a white Christmas it appears your dream has come true, not only will it be a white Christmas but it'll be white before the first day of winter which doesn't arrive until Sunday. I'm so excited, today is the opening of the outdoor rink at Dundas driving park. It'll be open everyday from 8am till 10pm for you and your family to skate. There'll be a concession stand serving hot drinks as well. Please if you do anything as family this year, check out the rink it's there for you and your family and keep in mind there is a donation box there as the rink is almost paid for. See you there for sure. Matt and I are looking forward to our Christmas open house on Tuesday morning from Limeridge Mall, 5:30 am till 9 am. The doors will be open at the shoppers/old navy entrance. One more thing - I'll be at bell World on Walker's Line in Burlington on Saturday morning - come see for some great Christmas gift ideas!
Matt and I are so thrilled at the response to the United Way auction. We knew you would support the needs of the people of Hamilton/Burlington and I must say the auction items are fabulous Christmas gift items as well. Matt likes to poke fun at my shopping obsession but truth be known I have curbed my running out and buying for no reason and I must say that I am a thrift buyer not a oh I gotta have that if it means putting my family in debt. My Christmas shopping has been on track and on budget and my hubby and I have just gotten each other very small stocking stuffers like a good Christmas read and a few odds and ends because we both don't need to stress ourselves trying to figure out what will make us happy at Christmas. We'll have our families together and that's all that matters. My nieces are visiting for the holidays and I look forward to getting together with cappuccinos or lattes and gabbing about what every 20 something gabs about these days. That's one of my favourite things this time of year !!!!!
Our united Way Home for Holidays Auction is underway, yesterday we had a combination of appliances and housewares, today we have an entertainment package that includes Il Divo tickets, Canadian Idol 3 tickets and there's more so make sure you join matt and me this morning and put in your bid. This is a big victory for 2 reasons, one it's a great gift for the Il Divo fan in your life and second, you're helping the united way of Hamilton/Burlington achieve their goal to serve the agencies in this area that help make our community a better place to live. A week today is our annual Christmas open house at Limeridge Mall. We'll be singing, chatting and just enjoying the spirit of the season with fans, friends and family so please drop by; we'll be there at 5:30 am. The doors will be open at the shopper's drug mart entrance.
You know we're a society that plans ahead. I'm thinking about the people left on my gift giving list and I'm already booking events for the month of January and February. Speaking of events, this morning on battle of the sexes we're giving away a Fuji digital camera worth 300 dollars and it's something else. It takes fabulous picture and HD video as well. What a great gift for someone in your family or maybe yourself. I'm off this morning to St Mark's Catholic school in highway 53 to see the kids that raised 3,000 pounds of non perishable food items for the needy. They had started out with a goal of 1,000 pounds and it just grew form there. I'm so happy to live in a city with such generous people who now more than ever the need is great for those less fortunate. Enjoy your weekend and spend with family and good friends after all that's what the holiday season is all about!
Matt and I have a very busy morning planned, it includes Christmas gift ideas with my pals at passion for Living which is a great spot for that hard to buy for person in your life and for anyone for that matter. We'll kick off our united way auction this morning with 4 tickets to see Tina Turner live at the ACC on December the 13th. The tickets will go to the highest bidder this morning. We are all creatures of habit but keep in mid all our local birthdays will be done on radio only at the same time 7:45 am but we will not be doing them with Bob and Annette. It's a very slight adjustment. I'm already returning things today. It isn't a gift for anyone so I know I'll be able to exchange it. I wish there was a faster way to return things. Just remember ‘tis the season right?
I'd to remind you once again that Matt and I will be doing the local birthdays from now on, on K-Lite only. So when you switch to CHTV to watch Matt and I at 7:45 for the birthday segment, it will now be an entertainment segment. We will do the birthdays live on K-Lite radio just before going to Bob and Annette at CHTV. It is a slight change but remember change is good and keep on sending those birthdays and anniversaries coming. I got a bit more gift wrapping done yesterday. For me, gift wrapping is pull out a gift bag, place gift in bag and cover it with Christmas tissue and finally place the gift card inside or tie it with some ribbon onto the gift bag. I hope that helps you. It took me all of 2 minutes to wrap up 2 gifts yesterday I was exhausted. I'm not a big Christmas card giver but I gotta tell you, I love getting Christmas cards in the mail. It just makes my day. My hubby and I end up calling and inviting all the card givers over the holidays for some appetizers and good cheer. Cheers.
By the time you read this, it'll probably be raining outside but my drive in was a winter wonderland and a slower than usual one. So anticipate a longer drive or walk today and just remember to keep smiling. Matt and I as you are live on TV every morning on CH at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45 am. For the past 5 years or so at 7:45 am Matt and I have announced local birthday with the Bob and Annette on TV but as of tomorrow morning, Matt and will announce the birthday on K-Lite RADIO ONLY and then we'll chat with our TV pals at 7:45. So please keep that in mind, it's a slight program change. Your birthdays are still very important to us. Don't forget Friday morning, Matt and I will be giving away a Fuji top of the line camera worth $299.00 on Battle of the sexes. You don't want to miss that opportunity!
I'm not going to give the shopping days or sleeps till Christmas. We all know it's coming fast enough and I'd like to thank all the shoppers who dropped by to see me at Barry's Jewellers and picked up a few gifts on their Christmas list and to those shopper who joined me at the bay, Mapleview. What a blast talking to some of he folks shopping on Saturday everyone was having a great time. My hubby and went to Guelph Saturday night to see my step son and it was a blizzard out that way but what a great looking winter wonderland. Then we were off to Niagara to see family and we stopped by Stoney Ridge winery for some Christmas gifts. What a lovely area we live in. Don't forget next month is ice wine festival in Niagara. A reminder that as of Wednesday, December the 10th, our local birthdays will be read on the radio before we go to Annette and Bob on CH TV. So in a nutshell, they will be heard not seen as of Wednesday December 10th.
If you're still looking for a Santa Claus parade this weekend, the Burlington parade is Sunday and the Stoney Creek Santa Claus parade is tomorrow. If you're looking for Santa, he's usually walking around downtown Dundas and there's usually horse and buggy rides for the kids. I always feel like I'm in an old Christmas movie when I'm downtown Dundas during the holidays. I'll be busy at Barry's Jewellers on Saturday from 9am til 1pm at 730 Upper James (across from Canadian Tire). If you haven't found something special for that someone special trust me you'll find it at Barry's. Speaking of Christmas, Matt and I will do our traditional Christmas show at Limeridge Mall again and the 23rd of December starting at 5:30. Join us by coming in through the old navy/shoppers drug mart doors. We'll be caroling and waiting jolly old Saint Nick!!!!!
I just thought I'd share my to-do list with you so it might inspire you to do just that and maybe either start or finish your Christmas shopping. This Saturday from 9am till 1pm, I'll be live at Barry's Jewellers on Upper James for more fabulous jewellery deals, then off to the Bay, Mapleview from 1:30 til 2:30 because there's a ton of stuff happening there for Christmas especially in cosmetics. Come check out the Lancome mascara, it's a new one and supposedly out of this world. Everyone I've spoken to is so busy these days with cookie exchange parties. They seem to be all the rage. If you need to bring one and you're bad like me try peanut butter cookies they're easy. It's peanut butter, sugar and a good oven. Put an almond on top and it's festive!
I feel like I accomplished so much yesterday and all I bought was Christmas gift bags for the gifts I've purchased so far. I'll feel like I've done more when I get it all put away. Are you going to a Christmas open house? I never know what to bring. I realize a bottle of wine is great but I always want to bring a little something that would compliment the wine, a little something for the season. We're going to my sister's for Christmas and we are bringing the ham this year, well my hubby bob is making and bringing the ham. I'll be getting in the way and trying desperately to help out which means staying out of the way and enjoying the holiday season. This weekend I'll be on location at Barry's Jeweller's on Upper James from 9am til 1pm and then I'll make a quick trip to the Bay, Mapleview shopping centre in Burlington, there's a ton of great stuff going on including great deals and come and try the new Lancome mascara is all the rage!
A special thank you to all the staff and our devoted K-Lite listeners who joined us at Mother Tucker's last night for our Sunni and Hayes dinner. The food was great and the company was fabulous. It's hard to escape how busy the season gets and I think we all find ourselves sleep deprived. I've found the key is stop and take a few minutes for yourself because if you don't you'll crash and you'll end up in bed fighting a cold or the flu. If you're looking for a book to read for the season or to give to someone why not try the Last Chord by singer/songwriter Ian Thomas. He joined Matt and me yesterday morning for a chat and he was great and the book is creating a lot of buzz. Ian will also join Matt and me along with singer Jim Witter for our annual Christmas show Tuesday December 23rd at Limeridge mall from 5:30 til 9am. See you there!!!!
How appropriate, it's Monday morning, December the first and there's snow everywhere. It's a slick drive into work but patience is all you need and a few extra minutes to clear off the car and you're set! It's getting busier and busier as we get closer to the 25th. Late night shopping began this past weekend and despite the constant bad economy news, people were out shopping with their families and not letting all that bad stuff get them down. My hubby made cranberry pistachio biscotti yesterday and they were delicious as we watched the snow fall. I couldn't help but notice the Salvation Army people in the mall canvassing and it was wonderful to see people dropping off their coins in the pot. That's all it takes a little bit from everyone. Tonight, Matt, Tom and I are off to Mother Tucker's for a Sunni and Hayes dinner - We're all looking forward to seeing our winning listeners!!!!
I never thought I'd be still battling a stuffy nose, sore throat and the achy feeling a week after I caught this cold but time and rest is the cure so remember that when it happens to you. A special thanks to Pauline, Jen and all the staff at the Winchester Arms in Dundas. I was a celebrity bartender, with all tips going to Mac Kids hospital and Dr Bob Kemp Hospice. While I was there we raised just over 300.00 dollars, so thank you to everyone and I have so much respect for bartenders and servers. I managed to get in everyone's way but it was a blast!! I'm hoping you have a special someone on your list of gifts to buy for which includes jewellery. I'll be at Barry's Jewellers in Mapleview Mall tomorrow in Burlington from 9am till 1pm. Drop by and save! Believe it or not I think I'm going to try to make biscotti this weekend.
Matt and I enjoyed a musical visit from Serena Ryder yesterday. She was fabulous!! There is so much talent in Canada and she was delight to have on the show. Check out a video of her performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxIkRTlX05k
It seems as we get closer to the holidays, the days get busier and it's also the time of year when fundraising increases because of the increased need out there. This Thursday evening I'm participating in a community project in my neighbourhood. The Winchester Arms in Dundas is donating back to the community. They're raising money for the children's hospital at McMaster and the Dr. Kemp Hospice and are running a raffle table and there will be celebrity bartenders. Now the raffle table will be set up from December 12 to the 18th and I'll be doing a bartending shift this Thursday night (Nov 27th) from 5pm till about 7pm or so. I'd love to see you please come by and help the community and have some good eats as well!!!
It's hard to believe we're a month away from Christmas. If you've put away getting a flu shot don't wait too much longer because everywhere I turn someone has something contagious. My husband was the first to catch it and I've got a scratchy throat and stuffed nose so I decided over the weekend to lift my spirits by making and following a recipe for gingerbread men and I can't believe how well they turned out. My husband couldn't believe it when he walked in the house and found me with an apron on baking. But you know what, the kitchen had that holiday scent of ginger and I actually felt a bit better after I ate 2 or 3 of the gingerbread men. If you've got a great recipe for something festive this year that you're dying to make, let Matt and I know, just e mail us at sunnyhayes@k-litefm.com. We'd love to hear it. Trust me; try baking today for the fun of it!!
What happened to my weekend!!! It started out slow and pleasant and then the rest is a blur. I find Friday night is a great night to do nothing. So my husband and I decided it was a movie night and we checked out a movie Kate Winslet did a while back called Little Children. Both Matt and our producer Tom recommended it. We both liked it and it was a movie filled with twists and turns so don't keep leaving the room for snacks. I was at Barry's Jeweller's on Upper James on Saturday and I'll be there again on Saturday only it'll be the Burlington location. Then Saturday night I was at the Bay, Burlington Mall for the grill time gala which was fun and part of the money from ticket sales went to the look good feel better women living with cancer foundation. Then it was Grey Cup Sunday with my family and friends and I started to feel a little under the weather. You know that achy, cold and flu feeling. I managed to see Calgary win another grey cup but I had hoped Montreal would win in their home town.
I was driving home from work yesterday, I noticed how pretty the city is looking as decorations start to go up and people's spirits are lifted. There is a lot to be thankful for. My family is in good health, I have great friends and gas prices keep dropping!!!!!! It's a busy weekend and the start for a lot of us to a busy season. Tomorrow morning I'll be at Barry's Jewellers on Upper James from 9am till 1pm and there will be fabulous deals, then it's off to the Bay, Burlington mall Saturday night for the girl time gala which will be loads of fun. Tickets are $10 and it's a chance to shop on a Saturday night and really get a ton of Christmas shopping done. Then it's Grey Cup Sunday with family and friends and my hubby is planning to make this delicious looking beef pot pie that's in the food and drink magazine. We decided to do something different than plain chili. I'm hoping for a hometown win for the Alouettes. Have a great weekend and get those Christmas lights up!!!!!!
Don't you just love trying to find all the seasonal items you need as this time of year when the weather gets a bit colder and the flurries start hitting the ground. I found my scraper and brush for the car on a shelf in our shed and there were a few of them which indicate my hubby and I have been buying them every time we can't find the last one we bought. I'm also getting snow tires this year. I felt that this was important this year because it will make my drive into work or anywhere for that matter a little less stressful. It's all about taking it easy on the road right? Speaking of the road, I was flipping out when I saw the price of gas this morning, 79 cents wow!!!!! I can't remember gas being under 80 cents!!!! It's a busy sports weekend, with the Vanier cup at Ivor Wynne this Saturday and the grey cup this Sunday. We're thinking of making a pot of chili for Grey Cup this Sunday. I'm also busy at Barry's Jewellers on Saturday, 9-1pm, come visit, I'll help you shop!!!
It was time to re charge my batteries and I think I did just that after a couple of days off, I'm feeling ready and raring to tackle the busiest time of the year. I ran into so many people already getting a jump on Christmas shopping and no one seemed to be too concerned about the economic climate. You know everyone I spoke to said this is the time they get together with their families and their very closest friends. It's so easy so cut down in areas where you wouldn't notice it as much like the big Christmas dinner where everyone can bring a side dish and putting a monetary limit on your gifts. Why not? It just means being a little more creative when you're out looking for the right gift. I know this year I've put more thought into what I purchase. You know I'm the queen of retail and this just means not running and buying the first thing I see which is usually something I want!!
It's interesting, yesterday I was out buying groceries and paying bills and I found myself wandering around the mall looking at my gift list and trying to figure out what to get for that hard-to-buy-for person and I couldn't help but notice that despite the doom and gloom of the economy and the constant depressing news out there about job losses, there seemed to be a lot of people with smiles on their faces. Every store I walked into, I was greeted with a smiling face and suggestions for other gift possibilities if I was stumped for a present. How nice was that? I'm taking the Friday and Monday off for a bit of an extended weekend and I'm sure Matt will make you smile and definitely laugh while I get my batteries charged. Don't forget the Santa Claus parade this Saturday. You know what - sometimes going to the parade and seeing those smiling little faces can make your weekend a great one!!!!!
My hubby and I were having a conversation as we always do after work and while Bob prepared dinner we started talking about how much fun it would be to go skating. I was never good at it but Bob played a lot of hockey so he was into a leisurely skate. How back to the basics is that? We plan to enjoy the change of seasons and we're both looking forward to the outdoor rink opening up down at Dundas Driving Park. You know we're all looking at inexpensive ways these to enjoy our lives and not break the bank so why not have a chat with you significant other and see if they're into a skate, stroll or even samba. I tried to get my hubby to take up dancing with me because we both have 2 left feet but he said skating in and dancing is definitely out!!!!!
This is an important day for Canadians and Americans as we take time today to remember the folks who fought to make our country a better place to live in. So take a moment to reflect today. You know we all lead such busy stressful lives but there is always time to think about the men and women who gave their lives for Canada. I had such a fabulous day yesterday, I went to Guelph to visit my step son who's in his second year at the university of Guelph and we spent the day together getting his winter wardrobe in order and his dad then prepared us a beautiful salmon dinner. We walked and walked all day and we didn't realize how quickly the time had passed and speaking of time - it's hard to believe it was just over a week ago that I walked the 1/2 marathon with my buddy Keltie Law. Well she sent me pictures on that day that pretty much sum up our excitement. Coming soon!
How did you enjoy the return of fall over the weekend? It was enough to get people in the mood for the holidays as Matt and I made our holiday house tour of distinctive homes. They were beautiful homes and the junior league of Hamilton Burlington did a beautiful job with the organization of this event. Matt and I were thrilled to be photographed with Los Angeles great Marcel Dionne who autographed photos for hockey fans in Carlisle. Look for our shot with the hockey great coming soon. This is going to be a short week for me, I'm actually going to take Friday and Monday of the following week for a little R&R before I get real busy for the upcoming holidays!!
I drove down to Fort Erie yesterday to see my parents and I couldn't believe the different weather I encountered in the short time I was on the QEW. There was nothing but thick fog from Stoney Creek to just past Niagara Falls and then it was a warm sunny day in Fort Erie. When i drove back to Hamilton I drove thru the same thick fog and it was at least 4 or 5 degrees cooler in Hamilton. I realized when I got home that my golfing season was pretty much over this season and once again I've told myself I'm going to work harder at my game next year. I was watching TV with my husband last night and noticed an ad for Toronto's Santa Claus parade, so I looked up the date for Hamilton. Can you believe it's Saturday, November the 15th? If you want to get in the festive mood, join Matt and I for the holiday house tour of distinctive homes. It's sponsored by the junior league and Matt and I will make appearance at all 3 houses this Sunday morning. See you there!!!!!
Golf course were packed, the tennis court around the corner from me was packed with last minute players eager to get one more outdoor game in before the temperature drops this weekend. It didn't really feel like things were normal after the election the other night. There was even more coverage on TV last night. There is so much hope for the U.S. with this big Obama victory and hopefully there's renewed hope in a better country for neighbours to live in. Matt and I are the honorary co chairs of the holiday house tour, so this weekend join us on Sunday, Matt and I will make appearances at all 3 houses. Come get into the holiday spirit!!!
What an unbelievable night!! I tried to see as much of the election coverage as I could but the morning comes quickly so I went to bed knowing Obama was in the lead for the presidency. But that meant nothing till I checked things out on the net and yes Obama has made history as the first black president in the United States. You couldn't escape all the TV coverage but more importantly everyone was buzzing about it. Long line ups to vote in the U.S. may finally mean we'll see more voter turnout when we have to get back to voting for what's right for our country. Don't forget to get your ticket for the holiday house tour. Just go online to the junior league of Hamilton Burlington and you'll find the locations. Matt and I will be at all 3 homes starting this Sunday morning in Carlisle. See you there!!
You can't help but wonder who will be the next president of the United States. We are bombarded with American networks full of debates, talk shows and even comedy shows that focus on the election and the people running in it. Oprah today will have an election party on her show today. The election is supposed stabilize the stock market and hopefully bring some sense of hope for Americans actually for all of us since the US influences everything everywhere else. I was quite happy this morning, gas has dropped to 84 cents for I gassed up and I actually made a list of Christmas gifts and I went out and bought one gift. It's small and thoughtful and I thought to myself it's not the size but how much thought you actually put into something to give to that special someone. I've decided to slow down, think before I buy and make it special!!!!!
Well I did it and so did Matt!! I walked the 1/2 marathon (and I got my hubby to do it too) and Matt ran the 1/2 marathon with the Esther Pauls, the lady behind the Road2Hope marathon for Citykidz and the Joy and Hope of Haiti. It was a gorgeous day outside and this event went perfectly without a hitch. Matt and I congratulate all the organizers, volunteers and more importantly to all you great folks who pledges to these 2 very worthy causes. I know there were over 4,000 participants. I'd also like to congratulate our producer Tom's wife Kelly who ran the marathon and qualified for the Boston Marathon. Now I truly understand that feeling of accomplishment when you cross that finish line!!! Matt and I will be at the Junior League holiday house parade of homes this weekend. Please get you tickets; it's a fabulous way to get ready for the holiday season!!!
What a whirl wind of a weekend!!!!! Friday was so much fun at Theatre Aquarius when Kevin Carson won the Barry's gift certificate and the trip to the Dominican!!! Matt and I were also at the bikeathon held over at the art gallery for junior diabetes. There were quite a few teams ranging from the media to businesses in the area. It was sad to see the Ti Cats lose another one on Friday night and the whole weekend was weird with the wind, rain and occasional sun. I did some leaf raking only to find them on my front lawn an hour later. And what was yesterday all about in the grocery stores? There were tons of people shopping like it was the night before Christmas. It's actually the week before Halloween and I've figured out the best way not to not to eat Halloween candy, buy chips instead!!!!
I was out and about yesterday and I have to say if you wore gloves and a warm jacket, it was a typical windy fall day.
I've been hooked on Californication which runs every Monday night
on The Movie Network but I waited patiently for my hubby and we both checked it out on our "On Demand" channel. This is the 2nd season of the show and I have to say every episode is more complicated than the last one. I like this show because you really can 't figure out what's going to happen next.
I also saw bits and pieces of Dancing with the Stars; only because I can't believe Chloris Leachman is in her 80's and keeping up to the much younger group of dancers. She's amazing!!!!!
I realize when I do my 22 k walk for the Hamilton marathon on November 2nd , it's not what time I come in but that I was out there giving it my best shot!!! You can too , log onto http://www.road2hope.ca .
Everywhere I turn lately someone is coughing or sneezing. I have my medical pack with me at all times, cough lozenges, vitamin c and eating properly at all times (or trying to). I went through my closet last night to grab something warmer to wear to step outside this morning and I realized as I have for a long time that I have a lot of clothing I'm not wearing for some reason or another. I started packing clothing to bring to the good Shepard because as it gets colder I know there's someone out there that needs to stay warm and I realized last night I could help out. That's what seeing Christmas trees in store windows does to a person. You realize that you can make a difference in a person's life. Matt and I are excited because Friday morning we broadcast live from Theatre Aquarius. Someone will walk away with a $2,000 gift certificate form Barry's Jewellers and a trip for 2 for the Dominican Republic!! You have till Thursday to qualify. Good luck!!!!
Matt and I were busy Friday night at Michelangelo's for the SPCA's spaghetti western gala. What a great success!! I had some friends there and we bid collectively on a Lake Tahoe package that we ended up successfully bidding on. The SPCA fundraising continued into Sunday when I ended Maision Fritiz for their cut a thon for the SPCA and McMaster children's hospital. I went and got my hair ready for the fall season. Speaking of fall season my hubby and I were busy yesterday taking screens off the windows and cleaning the windows. It's such a satisfying feeling when you can see out the windows. I also had to get my walking in as well because the Hamilton Marathon of hope is fast approaching and if you're not participating you can donate to the cause check out the website at marathon of hope.
My husband and I attended the 10th annual harvest dinner for the Good Shepard Centre last night along with 1,000 other people and I'm always so amazed at the generosity of Hamiltonians!! I wasn't surprised by the number of people but more the people who keep coming every year because they know how important the Good Shepard Centre is as an organization. Tonight, I'll MC another great evening, the Spaghetti Western at Michalangelo's for the SPCA. I'll be there and you may even see Matt there as well. I ran into a former Sunni and Hayes cruiser who told me last night she and her husband booked our 2009 cruise to the south of France. Why not treat each other to a great Christmas gift of travel. Call Bob at Cruiseshipcentres on Upper Wentworth today!! I bought gas yesterday 1.04 thinking it was going up today and of course I saw it at 99 cents. I'm not winning the gas war!!!!!
It's so appropriate to have the Good Shepard dinner on a day like today. It's a typically damp, cool fall day and the annual harvest dinner for the Good Shepard Centre will be held tonight at Carmen's. I sit on the advisory committee so I know how important this dinner is for the folks that really need it the most. I thank those people who I will see tonight because there will probably be somewhere around 1000 to 1200 at dinner. I told you in an earlier blog that I was watching Californication with David Duchovny. A show that I feel is really about David's life and it seems it could be true. He and his wife have separated and he's going through almost the identical thing on the show. I have to say the show is good. I woke up with a scratchy throat and I realized that germs are everywhere season so wash your hands and drink lots of green tea!!!!!
Well we're just over 2 weeks away from the Hamilton Marathon which is Nov 1st and 2nd for City Kidz and Hope for Haiti. I bought a new pair of running shoes yesterday for my 22 km walk, which I'm doing with a very good friend of mine Kelty Law from Royal Lepage. She' s training hard and as I have said to her and everyone I know, this is not a race for us but a way to raise awareness for 2 very important causes. After I voted yesterday, I picked up an assortment of vegetables that my hubby added to turkey stock from thanksgiving and we enjoyed homemade soup. I love it. I decided to use some of the features I pay for on cable so I went into on demand and started watching Californication with David Duchovny. The first season was still available so my husband and I watched about 8 episodes and I gotta tell you I really like the show. It is very clever and it's weird how it mirrors Duchovy's personal life right now. It kept my attention which is hard to do on TV these days.
I hope your thanksgiving was filled with turkey, stuffing; pumpkin pie and a very long walk because it was absolutely beautiful yesterday. My hubby and I got together with friends for a hike up to Webster's falls and I have never seen it so filled with people. The side streets and parking lot was packed with vehicles either parked or waiting for a parking spot. I don't think I've ever seen it so busy. We also took the opportunity to do some outdoor housework like putting away the lawn furniture, garden hoses and all that other stuff that needs to be put away this time of year. I love this weather but I know it isn't here to stay. Last night ended so beautifully with the moon behind the clouds...I had to run outside and take a picture it was so beautiful. I also forgot we also watched the Ti Cat game and that's all I'll say!!!

Matt and I are working on this glorious Thanksgiving so I decided that our turkey dinner with family would take place on Saturday. With a stepson in university and family out of town, it seemed the easiest. My parents as usual arrived with almost the entire meal while my dad immediately started gardening. My dad loves doing all that stuff. He's a master at trimming and pruning trees. I just don't have clue what should or shouldn't be sipped. The sunshine had me out walking with my folks to Webster's Falls where everyone was there with their kids and picnic baskets. It was like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting. We started getting our recycle bins together to put out and I realized no garbage, mail or stores are open. That's good; spend it with your family and close friends!!!!!

It was a beautiful fall day yesterday as I played in my last golf tourney of the season (not my last golf game). It was the St. Joe's Villa golf tournament at Dundas Valley golf and curling club and it was a sell out!! I couldn't believe how cold the breeze was. I played horribly but I can blame myself for that but I found myself buying a hot chocolate late in the afternoon because it just never warmed up. I was thrilled to drive by a gas station yesterday and see gas at 1.04. I find I no longer say I'll get gas tomorrow, because could mean an increase of 10 cents so if you see the low price and need gas don't procrastinate!! Matt and I are getting in shape for the November 2nd Hamilton marathon of hope for Haiti and City Kidz. If you want to donate just get onto the web site and make that donation. You can't believe the difference it will make!!
It's a bitter sad day for me because the golf season is coming to an end and I know there's a lot of golf still to be played but today is my last golf tournament. I'll be playing at Dundas Valley golf and curling club in the St Joesph's Villa foundation Neil Macarthur Memorial golf tournament. This is the 5th year for the tourney and there's an expected 148 golfers today and it's going to be a beautiful day to play one of the most picturesque courses around. I did a first yesterday, I actually bought a turkey for thanksgiving because usually that honour goes to my husband the chef but he asked to get one because he likes a frozen turkey to thaw out and prepare a special way and by the way Matt and I will have Matt's mom on the air on Friday to talk about her special and easy way to prepare turkey for thanksgiving that'll give you more time with your family
It was busy weekend in Dundas for the studio tour. There are so many gifted artists in the area!!! There were wonderful pieces of pottery, garden pieces, jewellery and a number of things for early Christmas shopping. I had to of course stop by and take a look at the beautiful works of art. My hubby and I picked the rest of our tomatoes and basil. Our garden still has a ton of sage, rosemary, thyme and mint. We enjoyed a delicious homemade tomato soup on a gorgeous fall Sunday. I saw the Ti Cat game on Saturday and kudos to the cats for an outstanding game boys!!!!! Matt is back from searching for his treasure and will tell us about his travels. I've got one more golf tourney left and it's coming up tomorrow. Be listening for your chance to win a treasure of a lifetime!!!!!
I have never been this excited for the weekend in a long time and I don't really have a lot going on. It's probably the thought of not having to be anywhere at any particular time. Last night's ladies night out at OLG casino in Brantford was a huge success. There was a ton of prizes given out and there were a lot of excited ladies!!! I ran into folks inquiring about the Sunni and Hayes cruise. It's in the fall of 2009 and please call bob at Cruise Ship Centres on Upper Wentworth. This is our 15th anniversary trip and the ship holds about 130 people so it'll be intimate and we're off to the south of France. It's the start of the sneezing season for me and I don't mean the cold season. It's allergies, sinuses and good old dry chapped hands that comes with the cooler weather but you know what enjoy the first fall weekend and don't forget a pumpkin would look nice to decorate the front porch area.
There is definitely a chill in the air this morning. I found myself believe or not finally putting away flip flops, capri's and any other reminders of summer. I kept out a couple of pairs of shorts for that day when we'll all be saying I can't believe it's October and it's this warm outside!!! Tonight's ladies night at OLG casino in Brantford and ladies if you're looking for something fun to do, come join me. The food is great, you'll get some lessons from the pros here at the casino and there'll be hourly giveaways and I gotta tell you the prizes are something else!!!! I think my hubby and I are going to pack up some of our lawn furniture this weekend and I've gotta get a new pair of running shoes for my 1/2 marathon walk on November the 2nd for City Kidz and the hope for Haiti. If you're interested in participating log onto hamiltonmarathon.com. By the way lots of people asking me about the Sunni and Hayes cruise next year call Bob at cruise ship Centres on Upper Wentworth. We're off to the south of France!!!!!
Change your calendar, yes it's the month of October. You know the month you buy little chocolate bars well in advance of Halloween and eat them all before Halloween and end up having to buy more. It was such a dismal start to the day yesterday; I was the emcee for the Bayshore Home Health golf tourney for the Dr. Bob Kemp centre for Hospice Palliative Care. It turned out to be a lovely for golf after all and I was pleased that I was wrong to think it would continue to rain all day! I tried watching dancing with the stars but I ended up laughing my head off to trailer Park Boys which last night as well. Sometimes you need to watch ridiculously silly to get to sleep. A reminder - ladies to join me tomorrow night for ladies night at the Brantford casino tomorrow night, tons of great prizes to be won. It could be you!!!!
The last day of September and I'll be at Dundas golf and country club for the Bayshore Home health 4th annual charity golf tourney in support of Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice. I'm hoping the rain will let up because it's not fun for anyone to play 18 holes of golf in the pouring rain. Matt is still off looking for the treasure so we can't even count on him to help out in clearing up the skies for the day. I felt like taking the long way into work when I saw that gas was down to 1.10. What a bargoon!!!! My sister called me late yesterday afternoon and said she couldn't believe that actress Heather Locklear was picked up over the weekend for DUI. She said to me, "what's that all about - aren't they living in a perfect world?" Not really and unfortunately living in the public eye means your every move is examined which can be very dangerous these folks are only human after all. This is a 2-cup of coffee morning, rain rain go away!!!!!!!
It was a fall like weekend and I knew fall had officially arrived because I can now buy a pumpkin latte IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! Thanks to everyone who dropped by Anguish lazy boy on Saturday in Brantford. I couldn't believe gas was only $1.11 in Brantford. How can a 20-minute drive make gas 5 cents cheaper? Yesterday was gorgeous for a family bbq. We were off to the thriving metropolis of Dunnville for a family birthday bash and it was beautiful sitting in the backyard with family and friends. Matt as you know is off in search of the treasure. What he'll come with no one knows and we're all excited to find out just what he'll come up with!!! I'm hoping for good weather this week I've another golf tourney tomorrow!!!!
The past 4 weeks K-Lite listeners have been asked to choose Matt's adventure to get the chance at an adventure of their own. Matt is now off in search of a treasure. We'll be excited to find out what Matt comes out with (he's always been an adventurous type). Be listening in the days ahead to find out. If you're looking to replace your tired old furniture, I'll be at Anguish Lazy Boy Furnitiure in Brantford on Saturday for a huge sale so drop by and save money!!! Special thanks to everyone who attend the 6th annual corporate golf tourney for Neighbour-to-Neighbour yesterday at the Beverly golf and country club - it was a huge success and we thank Matt for providing us with a picture perfect day for fall golf. The weekend looks wet so I'll be off to buy Alec Baldwin's autobiography!!!
Can you believe 3 months from today and we'll be singing Christmas carols, opening presents and eating a lot of shortbread cookies. I always know we're getting into a real change in seasons when my start drying up. I noticed my little cherry tomato plants are still thriving like crazy and I've still got fresh basil, sage and rosemary in the garden. You know I just pick the stuff; my hubby creates the masterpiece in the kitchen. I've had a very up and down season of golf which is no surprise. Today I play in the annual neighbour-to-neighbour classic at the Beverly golf and country club and I'm hoping for more than one shot that'll bring me back to play another round. The weather's going to co-operate so I'm hoping my swing will too. The ratings have been really good for dancing with the stars but I have a real hard time watching it this season for some reason and I love Cloris Leachman because she's just having fun and not taking it seriously!!!!!
I was checking out my schedule to see how many golf tournaments I'm playing in and I was surprised to see my last tourney is on October 7th. Hopefully this weather will hold out till then. I know I'm playing in the neighbour-to-neighbour tourney tomorrow at the Beverly golf club and the forecast is looking fabulous. I registered my friend the other day to do the half marathon with me on November 2nd for City Kidz and Hope of Haiti. I registered over at the Runner's Den and you can also do it online at Hamilton marathon.com. I'll be walking it folks so there won't be any racing titles involved, just old-fashioned fun (and sore feet). I'll also be broadcasting live at Anguish lazy boy in Brantford on Saturday. There's a huge sale planned and this is the time of year to purchase furniture. I also had a chat with my hubby about Thanksgiving; Bob loves to cook so it'll probably a huge gathering at our home. And that's what Thanksgiving is all about!!!!
This is the week everyone is scrambling to change their schedules around so they can get some golf in because who knows how long this great weather will last. All I kept hearing was "I hope it stays this way thru the week and the weekend'. Since renting a PVR I have been feverishly trying to figure out what I want to tape these days. Yesterday, I taped an episode of Boston Legal and I thought should I tape Heroes and then I thought I haven't seen the last 2 seasons so why would I watch now? Then I thought I have to watch Cloris Leachman on Dancing with the stars but then deep sleep set in and I was sawing logs before you know it.
It seems so funny that we're probably going to see the nicest week of weather coming up. Today at 11:44 we'll change seasons and it's going to be summer like for the whole week. I played golf on Friday at around 5:30 pm and it was pleasant but by around 7:30 it was time head inside. If the weather stays like this, we'll have plenty of fall golf. I still have a few tournaments including the neighbour-to-neighbour tourney on Thursday. This past weekend had to be a record breaking one at the Ancaster Fair. I was a judge for the baby contest, which has been a tradition at the fair, and those babies, each and every one of them were gorgeous!!!! This was the last year for the fair at its old location and next year it'll be bigger and better at highway 52 and 2. Yesterday, my hubby and I helped a friend get their sailboat out of the water for the season and then we watched the Ryder cup, a second of the Emmys and we watched Michael Clayton with George Clooney and it was a fantastic. It was a very pleasant end of the weekend!!!!
I was getting some work done on my car yesterday when I overheard the gentleman behind me at the garage say that Ron Lancaster had died earlier in the day. Everyone in that room was silent and I was shocked. I knew his cancer had returned but he's the little general and I thought there's no way he'll have a problem with this. He was the last man to take the Ti Cats to the Grey Cup and Hamilton has lost a true ambassador. He was American born and but he was a Canadian icon in the CFL and the Ti Cat organization has lost the biggest cheerleader of them all. The Ancaster Fair starts today at Merrit Hall in Ancaster and I'll be judging the baby contest on Saturday if you get a chance drop by with your family. It looks like we'll get a great looking weekend so enjoy every minute of it!
We've all been so amazed how green the grass and leaves on the trees still, are because of the rain, well yesterday afternoon I played Dragon's Fire golf course which by the way is beautiful and for the first time heading into the fall season I noticed the leaves on the green and there were a lot of leaves on the fairways and greens. The 22nd of September is officially fall but I really saw the signs yesterday. It was a very pleasant day to be outside and I'm hoping autumn will be like that. I drove into work this morning and I made a b line for the gas station to fill up. The gas was at 1.19 and I'm thinking don't leave it, fill up or you'll pay double like last week. The Ancaster fair starts tomorrow and I have the pleasure of judging the little cutie pie babies at the fair on Saturday. See you at Meritt Hall for what looks like a perfect weekend for the demolition derby!
I know I love to go on about how much I love to golf but if you're a true golfer you know you have those days when you should never have picked up a club at all. That was yesterday. My hubby and I played Heron Point for the Good Shepard Centre's youth services golf tourney and it was a beautiful day and our golfing partners Rebecca and Jamie were great but my game was off. I didn't realize until we were back in the clubhouse for lunch that it wasn't about how well I played but that we'd helped raise money (just over $40,000) to help get unfortunate youth into the community and working to better themselves. Matt and I would like to thank the folks that came out for our open house for our river boat cruise next fall to France. If you're interested please call Bob at Cruiseship Centre on Upper Wentworth. I'm going to try to hit the links again today and redeem myself hopefully!!!!
I'd like to thank all the ladies who dropped by Flamborough downs for ladies night on Friday. It was busy and there are great prizes including cash and spa treatments. I can't believe finally talked my husband into getting a PVR and with the help of a great pal we have it set and ready to go. I can finally say I've watched full episodes of Dexter, Damages and Rescue Me. This also means I can watch the Young and the Restless when I want to! Yesterday's rain had me running around planting mums I had bought a couple of weeks ago and I still have cherry tomatoes growing like crazy! I know I haven't talked too much about golf but I will be golfing at the Good Shepard's youth services tourney tomorrow at Heron Point and I've heard the forecast is supposed to be gorgeous!! The Ancaster fair is coming at the end of the week and I'm judging the baby contest!
It was a beautiful day for a drive down to Niagara yesterday. My folks still have a huge garden full of tomatoes, beets, potatoes; I could go on and on. We sat in the backyard of my parent's home and I realized that there aren't too many of these days left. In a week, we'll see the arrival of fall and hopefully it will be one that includes sitting in the backyard and enjoying some sunshine. Tonight I'll be at the OLG slots at Flamboro for ladies night and ladies I gotta tell ya you have a chance to win some great prizes tonight so if you're into a night out with your girlfriends and you're feeling like a winner, come and check things out at Flamoboro downs at hwy 5. I'm actually going to get my PVR hooked up this weekend so maybe I can finally to watch all the shows Matt has been watching for the past 5 or so years!!! Have a great weekend!!!
I know the weather has really cooled off but I gotta tell you I'm enjoying it!!! As long as the sun is shining it's quite lovely outside and I find myself parking my car a little further away when I'm in a lot and walking the extra distance just because it's so pleasant. A little gentle reminder that Matt and I will be at the open house for our south of France cruise next year. Call Bob at Cruiseship centers on Upper Wentworth and we'll all find about this luxurious riverboat cruise!!!! The open house is Tues/Sept 16th. If you're planning a ladies night Friday why not join me for ladies night out at OLG slots at Flamboro downs. You wouldn't believe the great prizes you have a chance to win. I'll be broadcasting live at 5pm so see you there. Matt and I are exciting to have Sarah Harmer on the show with us this morning to talk about a bit performance she's giving in Burlington next week. Be listening for the details!!
Sometimes I wish I knew what I was doing when it comes to the ever-changing world of technology. My husband and I have been trying to decide on a reasonably priced HD TV for our house. We finally decided on a PVR when we both realized we have missed every old and new TV show that may be remotely interesting to watch. After I picked up the HD PVR, I then had to get a TV, which my hubby left me to take care of. Don't get me wrong we both had already decided on what we were getting. I just had to go get it and not get coaxed into buying something else or an added million little accessories of which I haven't a clue whether are necessary or not. In the end I had to trust the salesperson's expertise because that's what they do. So if you want laughs and some good breakfast conversation I'd say Matt and I would be your best pick and the price is right!!!
I couldn't resist, yesterday morning I picked up a fall wreath for my front door. Matt is always going about how I keep moving the seasons along so quickly but I couldn't help it. Every store is decorated in orange and browns and I couldn't resist the urge to get into the spirit. Fall is actually my favorite season. I love raking leaves, walking in the crisp air and my husband making a homemade soup while I watch a movie!!!! Don't forget folks, Matt and I will be involved in an open house for our Sunni and Hayes cruise through the south of France, please call Bob at Cruiseshipcenters on Upper Wentworth to book your appointment to join us on Sept 16th. It's going to be so exciting and it's coming the fall 2009!! I watched the 6pm news last night when I saw that Charlie Taaffe had been fired from the Ti Cats. No one wants to see something like happen to anyone but it looks like the team needed to do something to save the rest of the season!!
Two huge events were held over the weekend. The first at was at the Dundas Valley Conservation Area where the first Brightrun was held benefiting breast cancer research at the Juravinski cancer centre. I couldn't believe it was a raining dull start to the event but over 950 people registered and there were at least 800 people there who walked or ran and over $100,000 dollars was raised. Congratulations to the organizers because this event was a huge success and the money will stay in Hamilton for breast cancer research. I met a lot of great folks and it turned out to be a great day!! Matt was the Wiggle waggle walkathon yesterday and it was a huge success as well and he had a wet walk as well. I realized yesterday for the first time that summer is coming to an end so enjoy every minute of the sunshine and warm temperatures. I actually started to put a few summer clothes away not forever but I just set them aside to make way for the odd sweater!
We had to hit record-breaking temperatures yesterday. I checked out my outdoor thermometer and it was 31 degrees at about 1:30 yesterday afternoon. A friend of mine told me yesterday was the first day of the summer she actually watered her flowers. I'm just hoping it'll be nice which I know it will be for this Saturday. I'm walking and the emcee of the Bright Run benefiting breast cancer research and the Zjuravinski cancer centre this Saturday at the Dundas Valley Conservation Area. We'll be walking and some will be running rain or shine. It's a 1km, 5km walk and a 5km and 10 km run along the rail trail. Visit the website at www.jcc.hhsc.ca for more info. I'd love to see a ton of people there and I'll be walking so don't be shy. I noticed signs posted downtown that there is some filming going on - be listening to Matt and I as we find which Hollywood hottie is in Hamilton!!!!!
I hope everyone is in a good neighbour mood because Jean's Flower Shop sent Matt and me beautiful mauve roses in honor of the day. Starting at 7am Jean's at 509 Upper Wellington will give a way 12,000 roses in bunches of a dozen absolutely free to anyone who visits the shop while supplies last. You're asked to keep one of the roses for yourself and give the others to 11 different people spreading goodwill and friendship in the community. Hopefully yesterday wasn't as hectic as expected for the first day back at school. My sister teaches and she said kids appeared happy to be back and it was nice to see the familiar faces of my young neighbours and their back packs walking up the court after school. And as usual I bought gas yesterday at $1.29 and noticed it was $1.25. I love throwing my money away!!
What a superb weekend. All I heard over the course of the weekend was this is the nicest weekend of the summer. Mother nature saved the best for last as you feverishly get up this morning to grab a few minutes in the washroom before the kids start lining up to use it. And don't send them out without their lunches! I was on location at Wal-Mart Saturday and I couldn't believe how many people were running around looking for backpacks, school supplies and any other items the kids needed for school. I finished off my weekend with as beautiful sail with friends on Lake Ontario and it was glorious, not a cloud in the ski just plenty of sunshine and good friends. My hubby and I watched the Ti Cat game last night and it was so close but the Cats couldn't quite do it. I have to hurry and run off to get my pumpkin for Halloween because if you think time is going fast - beware the next few weeks!!!!
I was watching the news last night and I saw that border crossings will be packed this weekend for shoppers looking for school supplies and back to school clothes. I like shopping in the States from time to time but why go during the busiest time of the year and idle with your vehicle in a line up that could take an eternity! I was out running around yesterday and I found a prime parking spot was able to shop leisurely without the long wait. My stepson starts his second year at Guelph University and we'll be helping bring his stuff to his place. Like so many parents and stepparents out there, this weekend will be hectic trying to get back to the business of a normal routine. If you have a chance I'll be live on location at Walmart in Ancaster so drop by and say hi and have a great long weekend!!!
I was all over the place yesterday and no matter where I was all I heard was what a great looking day it was! My sister and I went for a mega hike and it was spectacular. It wasn't the warmest day of the year but it was a beautiful day to walk, bike or sit around outside and putter in the garden. I didn't notice any early signs of fall like leaves turning color or even bare trees. I'm very excited about going to see Cirque du Soleil's Saltimbanco at Copps tonight. I've never been to a cirque production so I'm very excited at all the buzz surrounding this show. I saw a bit of Canadian Idol with Anne Murray as the mentor to the last 4 contestants and she was asked why she didn't head off to the U.S. for her career because at that time she was the biggest Canadian talent we had and Anne's response was that she was a small town girl and she had no intention of leaving Canada. That's why she's a Canadian legend!!!!
I can't believe this is it!!! My stepson is preparing for year 2 at Guelph University, my stepdaughter is realizing this is the last week to enjoy a leisurely week off before she's back in high school and the dreaded morning routine. It was a cool early morning and for the first time this summer I had to search for a sweater and that's when I realized not that summer's over but that we're moving into the regular routine of preparing lunches and it will be time to adjust your body clock accordingly. TV is filled with coming up the season premiere of whatever the networks have to over and I can't wait, I was getting a little bored of the same re run of Two-and-a-Half Men. Enjoy every minute of this week and remember next week it'll be a fight to get to the bathroom!!
I'm excited to be going into a long weekend for me. I'm taking Monday off so Matt's back Monday and I'll be back on Tuesday. You don't realize how much you use your computer at home until something goes wrong with it. I was on mine the other night and I wasn't paying attention and I by accident hit an icon that opened up a virus and I was in trouble and like cars when they break down, I was helpless and needed a techie to fix the problem. Something that took a second to hit caused a few hours of commuter clean up. I'll learn next time to pay attention to every little pop up that pops up on my screen. It's my husband's birthday this weekend so I think I'll learn to prepare a breakfast of champions for him(or we'll eat out). Eat a peach sundae this weekend in Winona and have a great one!!!!
Can you believe we're a month away form the first day of fall? How this being the second weekend in a row with sunshine and warm temperatures. Something we haven't experienced in quite some time. I actually put out the cushions to my patio set because we all know the skies aren't going to suddenly turn black and start pouring like crazy.
I thought I might have been asleep this morning when I drove in because I saw gas priced at $1.22 and of course I paid $1.25 the day before so it must be true. I'm not counting the days but I can't believe how fast this month is going especially when I'm watching TV and every other commercial is an ad for a new TV show coming this fall. You can't really find any outdoor garden stuff. It's been replaced with fall arrangements, fake pumpkins and fall decorations because we've become a change your home to reflect the season society. I'm not complaining, it's fun to do that sort of thing at home because it creates variety but it also means more garage sales because you keep accumulating stuff. Ask yourself how many arrangements do you need around the house? We actually put up a hummingbird feeder in the backyard last night and I'm actually awaiting the arrival of those cute little birds.
Can you believe this was the first weekend with no rain since the weekend of July 5th? Yes, this weather has meant greener grass and beautiful flowers but I spent all day yesterday pulling out the weeds that have grown just as quickly.
We were out to dinner with friends Saturday night and they were talking about Michael Phelps winning his 8th gold medal and I haven't seen him win one in all the Olympic coverage. I tried to watch last night thinking they might show highlights and I ended up watching platform diving.
The Cactus Festvial was packed over the weekend in Dundas and why wouldn't it be...the sun was shining for 2 whole days!!!!!
I don't know what I was thinking; yesterday afternoon I was riding high after my golf team of Cathy Wellwood, Pat Legato and Rebecca West won best female foursome at the YWCA Jill Rumble Memorial Golf Tourney at Willow Valley Golf Course. I drove thru downtown Dundas forgetting of course that the Dundas Cactus Parade would be setting up and the the main street would be closed off. Oh well, it took a little longer to get home and I'm glad I got home in time for the fireworks display in the sky and the downpour!!
Hopefully that's it for the weekend and I know poor Matt gets blamed for mother nature's decision to keep us wet every weekend.
It was an exciting morning at Burlingotn Hyundai yesterday!!!! We had 23 contestants with car keys but only one key fit the Hyundai Accent and it went to Lisa Drury. Special thanks to Vince Jones and his staff at Burlington Hyundai, to Murleene at Liason College who provided a fabulous breakfast. It was nail biter right to the end and Lisa was the last person to put her key in the hatchback door to win!!!!
I was driving thru Dundas yesterday (as I always do) and the preparations are on for the Cactus Festival. The rides are already being set up for the festival which officially starts Friday. Thursday night is the official Cactus Parade.
I'm back after a well rested long weekend. Okay, the weather was wet as usual this summer but I had fun just the same. My husband and I played tourists over the weekend by checking out the Haida down at the waterfront at Bayfront Park. It was interesting and worth checking out. While we were down there, we had a little jerk chicken down at the Caribana Festival which, despite the rain, was fun and we were back there in the evening down at the Chamber of Commerce for the annual Rotary AM bbq and auction.
This morning Matt and I will be live at Burlington Hyundai for the presentation of a new vehicle in our "Sing a Bar, Win a Car" contest. There'll be a few weeks worth of qualifiers so someone will be driving home with a new car!!!
I'm not one for boasting about winning anything but I got a message yesterday from Jon harpe(LPGA"S Alena Sharp, her dad) and he informed me that my mixed golf team that participated in the Alena Sharp classic for the Alzeimer's society won for mixed team. In all my 400 years of playing golf, I've never been on a winning team but you know what the over 155 golfers were winners the other day for making well over 30,000 dollars for the Alzeimer's Society.
Matt and I are thrilled to be co chairs of this years junior league of Hamilton-Burlington 's 26th Annual Holiday House Tour of Distinctive Homes. It's coming in November.
Matt told me yesterday I wouldn't get 18 holes of golf in with the forecast looking the way it did but we were very lucky; I played at the prestigious Brantford Golf and Country Club for the 3rd annual Alena Sharp Golf Classic for the Alzeimer's Society of Hamilton/Burlington. What a foursome!!!! I had the pleasure of playing with Alena's dad John who is not only a great golfer but probably one of the most enjoyable people I've golfed with, Gary Mckay for the Hamilton Spectator who has covered golf in the area for a number of years and is himself, a fabulous golfer and Jamie Steedman who is the assistant pro at Brantford...she's an amazing player and person. We ended up 12 under which is one of the best scores I've had in a foursome. But more importantly the tourney was sold out and they made at least 30,000 dollars for the Alzheimer's society. My thanks to John Sharp for making feel like no matter how bad I was on the course he treated me like i was a pro like his LPGA daughter!!!!!
I can't believe it's the 25th of July. Do you realize 5 months from now we'll be opening presents around the Christmas tree? I'm on vacation as of 9 am this morning and I can't wait. My hubby and I are off to New York City to see the sights. We have tickets to see the Broadway play "Wicked". We're also doing an evening dinner cruise of the city, which should be spectacular. I sorta wish I was around to see Mike Weir win the Canadian Open but it'll be nice to get away. I'm once again doing the carry on only luggage deal and I'm hoping to not have to buy a single thing because i didn't pack properly. Matt is back next week and we should be back working together after that. Have a great weekend and week and I'll let you know if I spot any celebrities in the Big Apple!!!!
I thought the rain was almost over but of course yesterday I'm coming out of a grocery store with bags in my arms and the rain starts up again. It's as if the faucet was suddenly turned on in the city and then turned off. When I got home I noticed my neighbours older tree in their front yard had been hit by lightening and literally split down the middle. It's great firewood for the winter. But who wants to think about another season when we haven't really seen much in the way of summer so far. I actually finally realized why my flower gardens look so good and I'd like to thank Mother Nature for that. I've been handling the show solo this week but next week Matt will take over the reins for a week. My hubby and I are planning a trip to New York City and I gotta say I'm very excited!!
I am so glad that while I was getting gas yesterday at the low price of 1.28 I was actually contemplating washing the car as well. I'm glad I didn't - that torrential downpour last night that started about 9:30 was enough to wash off anything on my car and it was loud. We're giving away Alanis Morrisette tickets this morning and tomorrow as well. I usually go out mugging on Wednesdays but we've decided to wait till September to drop off our great mugs because everybody is on vacation and we won't see things getting back to normal till school starts up again ... speaking of school, watch when August 1st comes around with nothing but fall clothes and school supplies stocking the shelves. I'm counting down the sleeps till my vacation believe it or not. I'll tell you where I'm headed tomorrow!!!!
I was in the grocery store the other day with my husband and he was picking up some cream and he looked at the expiry date, which read Sept 1st. He showed me the date and we both realized summer is moving quickly and by August we'll start to see the sun disappear an hour sooner in the evening. Just walk into a clothing store and you can already start to see the signs of fall clothing being placed on the shelves. It will soon be time to get you registration fees in for college and university. We were supposed to get a really hot summer and somehow we've had bits and pieces of it. Matt is off this week and then I'm off the following weekend I can't wait!!!! A week with no watch on and all the time in the world!!!! Oh by the way I watched Eastern Promises last night with Viggo Mortensen. It was a strange but good movie.
It wasn't the greatest forecast for the weekend but I still got out and played a round of golf. We spent the weekend with friends in Collingwood and it was lovely to get away. We played golf at a course called Duntroon, which I'm sure a few people know about because I met with a bunch of people from Hamilton who were up in Collingwood getting away from it all as well. I think watching the British Open inspired me to get out on the course but I've got to learn to slow down because it cost me major strokes. What about Greg Norman at the Briitish Open? He was ranked 647th going into the tourney and he tied for 3rd. What a finish. It makes me think it's never over till it's over right? We watched The Kingdom last night a movie that came out last year with Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Warner and Jason Bateman and it was a good movie!!!!! By the way I think the whole world went to see the Dark knight over the weekend!!!!
I don't know why you can play golf one day and everything you hit is straight and you can't wait to come back the next day and play even better but the next day you suddenly forget how to play the game and everything goes horribly wrong. That was my golf day yesterday at the VON Masters at the Beverly golf and country club in Copetown. I played with great people (including my husband) and it was a scramble format so I did contribute when my shot was actually good. My success came on the 18th hole, which is a par 5, and it was the longest drive hole for both the women and men and yes I can't believe for the 2nd time this season I got the longest drive!!!!!! So I think I may hit the golf course again because it's that one shot that keeps me coming back!!!!!!!
It was a weird morning yesterday when the skies darkened and the rain came down at around 8am and then it was over. It was nothing but lightening bolts in the skies on the way into work this morning but I'm hoping that's it because the 13th annual VON Masters golf tourney will take place today at the Beverly golf club in Copetown and the money raised will support the VON Adult day centre and caregiver respite services. It'll be up to Mother Nature today. I was in such a hurry to get gas yesterday because it was only $1.31. As it turns out, on my way into work the pumps were reading $1.28. And I thought I was getting a deal!!! This is going to be a very interesting weekend at the box office, with 2 highly publicized movies opening, Mama Mia and The Dark Knight. Both are so different but who will be number one? A light musical or a dark caped crusader?
The scene was perfect, sunshine, a light breeze and beautiful golf course. Yes, I had to take advantage of the picture perfect day and play a round. I was happy with my short game but I found problems in other areas of my game but that's okay because that's what keeps me coming back for more. I want to thank Barb for the fax she sent me yesterday. I spoke about my dilemma with weeds in my flagstone and she works over at Hamilton Builders supply and she suggested a mix of polymer binders and calibrated stone specifically made for flagstone patios to prevent weeds and deter insects. So I'll have to check it out. Anything to get out of getting on my hands and knees and trying to dig those suckers out!!! It was sad to see Adam Castelli eliminated from Canadian Idol but he gave it his all and Hamilton loves him!!!
Are you ready the heat is about to get turned up over the next few days? I'm planning on golfing which isn't exactly a way to stay cool but it doesn't look like it'll be too windy and the conditions are ideal for me to pursue my dream of breaking 100. Today I'm off to the Beverly to plan with a good friend of mine and then on Thursday, it's the VON tourney back at the Beverly. We're giving away tickets to see Great Big Sea on the morning show. They're here in November. Did you check out Adam Castelli last night on Idol? The last 10 contestants were to pick out a David Bowie song and Adam did Rebel Rebel which all the judges thought he did quite well. I didn't catch the rest of the show but the last 10 contestants are quite good so I'm sure Adam's feeling the pressure. Don't forget to vote Adam!!!
What a great looking day it was yesterday, sunshine, a light breeze and a backyard barbeque with friends. That's exactly what we did yesterday and it was super. Saturday was a bit of a write off with the on and off rain but I had a huge gardening job I had on my to do list and I spent over 3 hours but I got it done. I even gardened while it poured outside. I was so full of mud I even had dirt under nails even with garden gloves on. I was trying to get as much work done so my hubby and I could watch the Ti Cat game, which I thought, started at 7 but it was 4. Although it was close and the Ti Cats lost, they looked spectacular on the field. I didn't get any golf in but I am planning to this week with the annual VON tourney on Thursday at the Beverly golf club.
Thank you to everyone who dropped by Cora's breakfast and lunch in Ancaster yesterday and joined us for breakfast. It was hopping and the staff and food was great. I was off to Heron Point after that to participate in the 8th annual investor's golf tourney in support of Parkside secondary school. It was a sold out event. I actually parred 2 holes and came very close to breaking 100. Can you believe it on a club links course! I will be on air solo next week and the week after. Matt is vacationing but tune in, you could sing a bar and maybe win a car!
Matt and I had a great time on the road at Cora's restaurant in Ancaster this morning. What a great place to grab breakfast or lunch! I'm on the road today to the 8th annual charity golf classic put on by investors Group. Over the past 7 years the tourney has raised 75,000 dollars for the children and youth of our community. We're teeing off at Heron Point at about noon. I was talking to a few people the other day about the Hamilton marathon coming in November and I will be walking the half marathon. Check the website and remember it's for City Kids and Haiti. You've got lots of time to get ready for it!
It's mugging time again!!!! Good morning to Lisa Kulchyk and the great staff at Noah's Ark Children's centre. We'll be dropping by with mugs and coffee and all you have to do if you'd like us to visit you with our new mugs is get onto to our website and register. It's that simple. Tomorrow Matt and I will be at Cora's restaurant in Ancaster broadcasting live form 5:30 till 9am. Everyone is welcome to come by and say hi. We'll be playing battle of the sexes and a chance to sing a bar and win a car as well. Matt and I love being out on the road meeting folks so make a date tomorrow morning. I was out driving yesterday on the red hill expressway and as usual I sort of got lost. Actually I had my dad in the car with me and I was boasting about how easy the expressway is and we ended up getting lost and going in circles. My dad was so impressed with my abilities to get lost in a city I've been living in for the last 17 or so years!!!!
I started watching the Argo/Ti Cat game last night and I thought is that Danny McManus? Sure enough it was. I even called Matt and asked him where he came from. It doesn't matter because the Ti Cats looked so hot last night. It was a transformation like no other. I saw a very confident team last night that played like a real team. I know it was only the Cat's first win. But the Cats haven't been able to beat the Argos at home in like 7 years so congrats Cats and hopefully that means a packed Ivor Wynne next home game!! This is the weekend to have friends over in the backyard the whole weekend actually looks fantastic so enjoy every minute of it because I plan to. Next week Matt and I will be on the road at Cora's restaurant live for our show. The date is Thursday, July 10th - Hope to see you there!!
I can't believe today marks the start of the dog days of summer. So that to me means summer is going by so fast and I'm still shopping around for summer buys. Everyone laughs at my obsession with shopping but it's not at all what you may think. First and foremost for me, it's very rewarding because I can walk forever and look around and not purchase a thing. There usually is a reason why I'm out shopping but when there isn't, it's just to get more exercise which you i just love. Speaking of exercise I finally took out my ipod with 800 tunes on it to the gym and I couldn't how fast the workout went by. If you're not motivated to get to the gym bring your tunes with you guaranteed you'll burn off a calories and not even know it!!!!!!!!
What a display last night!!!! The fireworks were everywhere including Bayfront Park and we could see them from our window at home. The skies were so clear you see the color bursts of red, blue and green in various areas of town. What a forecast yesterday!! The sun was just enough to motive me to weak the garden and just take in the beauty of everything being so green. Do you remember last year we were all trying to find ways to keep the lawn from turning completely brown? Last night my hubby and I rented in the Valley of Elah with Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron. It was a pretty good. I was talking to some friends yesterday about how little there is on TV in the summer and the networks seem to have opted to not show new TV shows or summer replacement shows. So it's either runs or game shows or Seinfeld! You better find something I think it's going to rain!!!!
Matt and I are back today ... and gone tomorrow for the first of July and hopefully no rain for the fireworks at Bayfront Park. The weekend was busy with being live on location Friday night and Saturday morning at Bad boy furniture in Burlington. I'd like to thank everyone that dropped by to say hello. My stepdaughter and I drove down to Fort Erie Saturday to see my mom and dad and it was a blast!!! We dropped by the Friendship Festival which is an annual event in Fort Erie for the first of July and then it shifts to Buffalo. The spoons and teenage head performed Saturday night. It poured rain Saturday night in Niagara and then we drove home yesterday afternoon and it was quite nice when we got back. We decided to rent the Bucket List last night because there really isn't anything great on TV and it was a great movie with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman(it was a bit of a tearjerker). I was also out having a bite to eat in Dundas and I met Hamilton's Canadian idol finalist Adam Castelli's mom. She's very excited about her son and she should be so is Hamilton!!!
I've got a busy start to the wekeend...today and tomorrow morning I'll be live at Lastman's Bad Boy Furniture in Burlington so come and join me.
I know it'll be busy for alot of my friends who are busy finding activities for their kids as school is over and the start of the old expression begins, you know the one, "MOM I'm bored".
I was golfing at Rock Chapel Golf Course over on Highway 5 and we were golfing behind the kids golf
program. Kids who were off earlier this week have already got day camp activities happening.
How do you plan for a weekend you know will be wet for most of it? Plus how do you plan for a "kinda sorta" long weekend. We're back to work Monday and off for fireworks and Canada day on Tuesday. It's a tough one but we'll all get through it.
I'd like to say good morning to the staff at Effort Trust Mortgage Company on Main Street. We dropped by yesterday with coffee, mugs and treats for the staff.
I also attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at Prime Financial and Savings Credit Union on Rymal Rd. It's their new location at Rymal and Hwy 20. What a great looking building.
Well I'm back from a very busy week off. My hubby Bob and I went to Vancouver to visit family (and to get a bit of golf in as well). We managed to play at Pt. Roberts which is just over the border in Washington; we also played at UBC in Vancouver. You know the game of golf...I had some good shots and some really bad shots but all in all it was great!!!
I went to Granville Island one day while my hubby went wild salmon fishing. We both had fun and when we got back we took Matt to see Al Green at the Sony Centre in Toronto for his Big 50th. He was amazing !!!!
Are you avoiding cracks on the sidewalks and walking under ladders today? As Matt and I have always said everyday is Friday the 13th in the life of Sunni and Hayes. Actually I didn't think I had a lucky number till I won a BBQ on the 11th hole at Royal Woodbine golf course the other day. So I think I'll have that number tattooed somewhere (probably my forehead). There are a couple of folks in my neighbourhood heading to Port Dover today for all the fun and keep in mind this is the only Friday the 13th for 2008. Tonight I am really looking forward to La Dolce Vita - an open house for hunger in support of Hamilton Food Share. I will be vacationing next week, so Matt will be back on the air and then we will both be together on Thursday, June 19th broadcasting live form the new bad Boy in Burlington. I will be officially back Tuesday, June 24th and that's when I'll be back blogging. So if you're on vacation next week as well enjoy and have a happy father's day!!!
Yesterday was the perfect day for a golf game. I was off to play at Royal Woodbine golf course for the 10th annual woodbine media golf tourney. It was a beautiful day with warm gusty winds. I'd like to thank the organizers for a well-organized event. We were all treated like kings and queens. I was having the worst game of my life until the 11th hole when I blasted a shot that earned me the longest drive for women and a Napoleon BBQ. I was thrilled. So the moral of my golf story is be happy when you get one great shot because that shot will bring you back to the golf course. I was so thrilled to have the greatest Canadian jockey, Sandy Hawley help me get the BBQ in my vehicle. What an honour!!!
It was a very unusual day of weather yesterday but I was so pleased to see the rain end and the sun come out just in time for the Ancaster heritage days old mill race. There was a 1-km/5km and 10 km race. I saw the young kiddies running the 1 km race and they were adorable. Over 300 kids ran that particular race. I applaud the organizers, which include Anton Plas who did a great job putting that race in place. While I was there I ran into Esther Pauls who is an inspiration!!! I signed up to walk the 1/2 marathon on Novermber 2nd and I'm so excited. If you're interested in joining me log onto www.road2hope.ca. If I can do it so can you and it's for city kidz and the joy and hope of Haiti. Good morning to everyone attending media day at royal woodbine golf course. It's a great day of golf and laughter!!! And by the way, there's filming going on in Dundas, it's a movie called warehouse 13.
I was the master of ceremonies for the 12th annual golf for life tournament in support of the Mark Preece House at Carlisle golf and country club. When I got there, there was only a couple more holes left to play but as it turned out, the officials blew the horn because the skies looked very threatening. Over 60,000 dollars was raised for this very important event and later that night I was rocked to sleep by the roar of thunder and lightening. What a performance in the sky!!!! Tonight the annual Ancaster heritage run which I'll mc as well. There should be record-breaking crowds tonight and it should a clear night for a run or walk!!!
What a hot summer weekend!!! Congrats to the over 300 people who attended the relay for life for cancer that was held at Flamborough speedway on Friday night. It was a very emotional night for cancer survivors and their families. Buskerfest was buzzing this weekend in Dundas. It was busy all weekend thru Dundas as street performers from around the world entertained everyone. I went to tea for 2 a breast cancer fundraiser. It was fabulous and there were just over 300 people for this 3rd annual event that is growing in leaps and bounds. Last night was quite scary to watch the sky turn dark and gray and those winds were strong as the lightening, hail and rain came in. My hubby and I ended up renting "Dan in Real Life" with Steve Carell. It was a good movie. Matt is on vacation this week and this morning I give away a trip to Paris. Not bad for a Monday!!!!
It was such a blast yesterday for camp day to Tim Horton's. Matt and I were live at Timmy's in Ancaster. A special good morning and thank you to Aaron Birch and the staff at Tim's and to all those great folks who stopped by and had a cup of coffee with us. There were Hamilton police volunteering their time along with Ti Cat mascot Stripes who was hilarious. Matt and I really love being out on location meeting people and was great to chat with everyone and to those people who bought coffee in the drive thru we thank you and I know the folks at John Bear on Upper James bought large coffees for all their staff yesterday morning as well. It was great fun and a ton of money was raised to send over 13 thousand deserving kids to camp.
Matt and I love being on the road with the morning show and this morning we'll be live on location at Tim Horton's in the meadowlands of Ancaster for camp day. Camp day is the one day each year when every cent from coffee sales at Tim Horton's stores across Canada will be donated to the Tim Horton's children's foundation. Matt and I would love to see as many folks as possible at our location in Ancaster and who knows there may be other surprise guests you'll have a chance to meet!!!!
I've been filling up on gas like everyone else and not realizing just how much I'm spending on a necessity I need like everyone else and I think that's why I don't think about the cost of gas going up. It's a requirement for those of us who live too far way to walk and get up too early to even think of walking. Get ready for some really hot weather by the end of the week. I just want some consistency in my wardrobe. Is it spring or summer - that is the question. There is so much talk about people doing less travelling this summer, which will hurt tourism but keep in mind the variety of activities in our own backyard. The Stratford festival, Niagara on the lake, the wine district are just a few hot spots to check out while vacationing without spending a ton of money to get there!! Don't forget to come see matt and I for camp day at Tim Horton's in Ancaster!!!
If you writing a check out today, the month is June believe it or not. The weekend as always flew by. I don't know about you but I find Friday night heading into the weekend to be my winding down time. I need Friday night to gear up for the weekend and it was busy. The storm Friday night helped me get a good night's sleep and Saturday in between the bouts of rain my husband and I finally finished planting our herb and vegetable garden. Matt and I did the McMaster children's hospital telethon Saturday and it was hustling and bustling with volunteers and it was fun. I had a chance to chat with Rick Campanelli from ET Canada. He came with his young son Noah who is adorable!!! Thanks to everyone who called and donated to the hospital it just shows how much Hamiltonians care!!!! I'd like to thank Gary Collins and the staff at Crosswynds Golf course in Burlington. They had a media day on Friday and it was fantastic!!!!
What a fantastic day it turned out to be yesterday!!!! Matt and I had a blast bat the 13th annual Good Shepard women's services golf tourney at heron point golf course. It was a sold out event and they made over 50,000 dollars. We broadcast live there yesterday morning but I was off to Copetown Woods for the 11th annual Zonta club golf tourney for breast cancer and it was also a sold out event. It was the first time this season that I actually played a full round of golf and I stunk but I had a great time. I'm also off to crosswinds golf course for media day today, which I'm excited about and Matt and I will be at the MacMaster children's hospital telethon tomorrow night from 6 till 10pm. The telethon also runs on Sunday as well. Have a great weekend!!!
I'd like to thank my good buddy Matt for the wonderful weather today. We're broadcasting live from Heron Point golf course for the Good Shepard women's services golf tourney and it's going to be perfect conditions outside. Thanks to everyone coming out for the day and as well good morning to all the women participating in the Zonta club's golf tourney for breast cancer at Copetown woods which will get underway later this morning as well. Both these organizations are vital to our community and matt and I applaud all the hard work these organizations devote to making Hamilton a better place to live. Both of these organizations have web sites to donate if you're interested in making a difference!!
I couldn'ts believe that I got into my car and it was 5 degrees outside!!! It's okay the sun will shine later and hopefully we'll have great weather for tomorrow's Good Shepard women's services golf tourney at Heron Point golf club plus I'm playing the Zonta club golf tourney at Copetown Woods tomorrow so it had better be an awesome looking day for both events. I'm out delivering mugs this morning and coffee to go with it. This morning's winner is Marg Uhelak and the staff at Audcomp computer systems on Fennell Avenue. You can tell we're definitely in rerun season. Last night I decided to watch TV and my problem is I don't really know what I want to watch so I end up channel surfing till I fall asleep which is great if you can't fall asleep. Your choice is simple entertainment shows or shows you've never hear of. I chose sleep!!!!
I had to be downtown yesterday morning right after the show and of course it was at that moment the sky exploded and for about 20 to 25 minutes I was caught in that downpour that reminded me of being in the Caribbean because the weather down there can be just like that. Then it suddenly clears up and I'm out buying flowers at a gardening centre. I will be in the chatroom this morning just after 9 am and I'd love to hear from you. I'm actually believe or not going to play golf this afternoon for the first time which is the latest I've ever left it but that's okay as long as the sun is shining. Matt and I are gearing up for the McMaster Children's Hospital telethon this Saturday and Sunday. Matt and I will be there live Saturday night at 6pm. I can't believe this is the last week of May. Vacation season is coming!!!!!!
I couldn't get enough of the last couple of days. I've been feverishly looking for shorts, short-sleeved shirts and Capri's for this great weather. Hopefully, this great weather is here to stay!!!! I celebrated my 49th birthday with family and friend and it was a blast!!!! I'm everyone ended up doing the same thing this weekend planting, golfing, walking, and in my neighbourhood, it was pool cleaning. Yesterday I noticed a number of motorcycles around, I'm sure they're gearing up for next month's Friday the 13th ride to Port Dover. I'm golfing this week and I'm a bit nervous because I have been practicing but not seriously. But you know what I have a new attitude about golf. I'm going to be more relaxed and I'm love playing golf for the social aspect and the my love of the outdoors and if I can play okay then even better!!!! Maybe I'll break 100 this year!!!!!
Today is my 49th birthday and I'm not afraid of giving my true age. I know so many people are hung up on numbers from our ages to our weight, height, and test scores from high school and university. It's a number and what we have to do is not worry about that number but about everything else around us. Maintaining good health and healthy relationships with the people that matter to us. I look at Madonna, Prince, Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood all of whom are older and still better than ever. Drop matt and me a line at sunniandhayes@radio.astral.com and let us know how you feel about getting older and it showing. I gotta tell I'm very proud of each and every one of my wrinkles! I'm hoping to use garden gloves this weekend not gloves to keep warm!!!!
I couldn't believe how cold it was when I stepped outside this morning. I have to stop complaining about it because I know in a few short weeks we'll be boiling (I think). We're off to mug Braun Nurseries this morning so I'd like to say good morning to Flo and the staff at Braun. Just get on to our web site if your office would like a coffee visit. I watched the weirdest movie last night with Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke and Marisa Tomei ... it was called "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" and it was really creepy. I'm trying to find other movies and shows to watch because we're entering re run season very soon. I finished a yoga session last night and I plan to take more classes. It was fabulous and I feel great except for my aching muscles but it's a good ache!!!!
Don't you just love long weekends!? It's the Tuesday after that's hard to take. Sunday and Monday evening was filled with sounds of neighbourhood fireworks and I'd like to thank everyone who came out to Sweet paradise for the customer appreciation bbq. It was a great success with proceeds going to City Kidz. My hubby and I were out Saturday night visiting at friend at the general hospital and we decided to eat a restaurant around the corner and it was Portuguese and it was excellent. The people there were so much fun!!! I was on the highway Niagara bound this weekend and it was busy but there were no crazy drivers around. Just crazy weather ... I really didn't do much gardening. It's hard to get my garden gloves over my wool gloves. By the way I'll be in the chatroom at about 9:15 this morning. Let's talk!!!
I know I'm not the only one excited about the long weekend. I know weather may not be great but who cares, read, cook catch on sleep and maybe have some fun with family and friends. I'm looking forward to Saturday at Sweet Paradise on Uppper Paradise and Stonechurch. I'll be there live tomorrow form noon till 4pm. We'll have a lot a great things going on so drop by and say hello to a very well known store in our community. I helped hand out the "Yes, I Can" awards to students and they were such a great group of students who were at Michelangelo's last night with their parents to receive medals they all so richly deserve. I think I'll buy a book this weekend and my hubby and I have to get some golf in between the rain. Have a great long weekend!!!!!!!!
It's looks like it might not be the greatest looking long weekend for weather. If it's rest and relaxation you're looking for this weekend it's great and if it's golf, opening up the pool or gardening, your plans may get interrupted by showers. I will be at Sweet Paradise over at Stonechurch and Upper Paradise this Saturday from noon till 4 pm for a big bbq and celebration. We'll be across the street from the store over at the Dot ca store for all the festivities. I've already planted a few herbs. I have planted mint and mint chocolate mint and mint is great in cold drinks and recipes and it grows like crazy so plant it where you know it won't take everything over. I'm going to MC the Yes I can awards tonight at Michaelangelo's Banquet Centre. I'm very excited for the students!!!!
I couldn't wait to get home and open the windows up and let the fresh air come in. What a great day it was and of course today is a different matter I have been trying to get at least one yoga class in a week and yesterday I did a class that made me feel like a million bucks. It's all strengthening your body and soul and I gotta tell you I feel great after that class. I got home last night with full intentions of watching American Idol because I only watch the finals of any reality show and I got hooked on watching restaurant makeover on the food network and last night they kept running commercials for Former CFL'er Matt Dunigan's cooking show that looks good. Good morning to Lisa Zahoradni for Total Physio on upper James St. We'll be dropping by this morning with mugs and coffee. See ya at coffee break!!!
I will be in the chat room at about 9:30 this morning. Just log onto to our website and hit chat room and drop me a line. I would love to know what everyone is doing for the long weekend.
I noticed parking lots getting set up to sell fireworks and I was in Burlington last weekend and I noticed the mini carnivals in the mall parking lots...so look for a carnival coming to your neightbourhood soon!!!!
I've been trying to take a yoga class at least once a week and I gotta tell you I never thought I'd feel this out of shape. It is so good on the entire body including the derriere.
Could someone tell me where the weekend went? Saturday night my sister and I took my mom and relatives to see the Italian comedian Joe Avati. He was fabulous and the show started at 8 and didn't wrap up till about 11:15. It was a mother's day gift. I believe the gift of laughter is a nice change from flowers. My dad was going on about the cost of gas yesterday because he had seen gas at 1.19 and didn't end up getting it till 24 hours later when it shot up to 1.25. We'll be lucky if we see it at 1.20 again. Friday night was a celebration at Liuna Station for the 30th anniversary of Hamilton Magazine. What a blast and the Spoons performed. It was great!! I was so excited to get a surprise visit from my gorgeous step kids who drop off a beautiful bouquet of flowers for mom's day. What sweethearts!!
I am never going to feel old and gray again!!! I watched Oprah yesterday afternoon and her guests were Cher and Tina Turner. Here's 2 ladies ages 61 and 68 and they've never looked better!! They are so similar in that their careers began with controlling husbands who took over their careers but they escaped that hold to form very successful solo careers. I'm never going to complain about my age again. But then again I'm not one to do that because my thoughts are that there are some things in life we can control and some things like aging that has to be left alone. You have to let this process take place naturally. I've taken that attitude for a long time and I maintain eating a sensible diet with the odd' indulgence, along with regular exercise and a happy personal life is the key to ageing gracefully. Have a great weekend and go for a walk with your family this weekend.
We're getting closer and closer to the mother's day weekend. Have you decided what you're doing with mom? It does get harder and harder to something with someone who doesn't want to be fussed over. People are getting anxious to open up their pools and if you have neighbours with one, I bet you they'll be looking to getting it open before the rush on Victoria Day weekend. I think we're staying put for the long weekend. You know when you look around in the area there's a ton of things to do without having to pack up and drive for hours. I just bought tickets to see singer Al Green in Toronto next month. He is supposed to be amazing in concert. Speaking of concerts Matt and I are giving away tickets to see Celine Dion in Toronto in September. This is another added show due to her overwhelming popularity!!!!
Don't you just love it when you decide to wash you car and a half hour later a bird decides it needs to mess it up. It happened to me yesterday. I had a clean looking car for about an hour till the bird episode. I noticed gas is back to almost $1.22. We can't dwell on it right? My husband has decided to give me golf lessons in our backyard so last night until just before dark we practiced chipping into a little net. I actually enjoyed it. I was forced to actually relax and take it easy. Good morning to Lisa for the back clinic on Rymal Road. We'll be dropping by with coffee and our new coffee mugs for the staff this morning. Matt and I are giving away a pair of tickets to Celine Dion in Toronto September 27th today thru Friday keep listening!!
I can't believe I haven' t been out golfing yet but the bottom line is at the end of the day I'm too exhausted to even think about my favourite pastime. My hubby and I did buy season passes not to a golf course but to a driving range because practice does make perfect. I think!!! I will be online today at about 9:30 am so please don't hesitate to drop by the chat room. Last night when I went to sleep I had the bedroom open a crack and I could hear the sounds of kids playing on our court. It sounds so good to hear kids having fun and I go to bed early so the kids were not outside in the middle of the night. A true sign of the festival season is the banner across downtown Dundas that reads Annual Busker fest coming the first weekend of June. It won't be long now for the opening of neighbourhood pools!!
I kept thinking about getting gas yesterday when I saw the price drop to 1.18 and 1.19. I don't really need it but I'm starting to act like my parents save, save, save! Hopefully the price will stay this way for a day or 2. I know there's rain on the way and I almost hope it's rainy all weekend so I'm forced to stay indoors and rest because I've been suffering from a bit of insomnia and we just ordered some dirt that needs to shoveled onto our flower beds. How about the Canadiens last night? We're down 3 games to 1 but I know this will not last, they're back at home for the next 2 games and hopefully that make a big difference. I saw Oprah yesterday with David Blaine, the man who held his breath a set a record holding his breath almost 17 minutes. What is that all about? I'm hoping to break a record for longest nap this weekend!
A special 'good morning' to the staff over at Carrington Place in Ancaster. We'll be stopping by there this morning with coffee and mugs for the staff...if your coffee mug at work is looking a little run down, why not send us an e mail at http://k-litefm.com and we'll see about replacing that mug and those of your co workers as well.
I've been doing a yoga class the last couple of weeks on Tuesdays and I gotta tell you it's amazing. Don't ever think that yoga and pilates are not total body workouts because you're wrong!!!
I'm exhausted from last night's Montreal victory!!!!!I I stayed up and watched Montreal shut out the Bruins. Ex Hamilton Bulldogs gaolie for the Cnadians Carey Price was superb!!! I have never seen so much red in the seats as last night and I couldn't stop watching.
I'll be in the chat room this morning at about 9:30 am; if you'd like to chat just go to our website at http://k-litefm.com and hit chat...you'll find me there and I'd love to hear from you and what you plan to do today to participate in Earth Day. Here's a good tip for you today: Forget about trying to score the closest parking spot...why not park far enough away from where you work so you'll be forced to walk a little and enjoy the sunshine and beautiful city we live in!!!!
I'm very excited today is join me at the oasis spa in Ancaster. A winning contestant and 3 of her friends will be joining me tonight at Oasis for a pedicure, manicure and some great food as well. It made me think. My husband told me he'd like some spa treatments like a pedicure or facial, or massage. So if your anniversary is coming up and you want to do something different try a couple's spa day for a change. They're fun and you'll both feel great. I'm going to work on playing more golf this summer plus there's a little tennis court down the street from me and I plan to go back to playing tennis. I used play for years but you know time is never on my side. I also did a yoga class the other day and it was fabulous so I plan to try to get at least one of those classes in and if I survive all of that maybe I'll get the gardening done as well!
I couldn't believe I was eating dinner last night and the sun was still shining brightly. Now that that all the snow is gone I really notice spring happening everywhere. My grass looks greener and people seem to be in a better frame of mind. It makes you think of planning your summer vacation and this morning the street sweepers were out clearing the streets of dust and gravel. I'm looking forward to putting out the lawn furniture and sitting outside and listening to the kids in the neighbourhood. If you have a chance I'll be online chatting this morning at 10 am, you can get onto our website and click onto the chat icon and away we go! Congrats to the MS Society of Burlington. They raised 80,000 dollars on Sunday for the walk and it was a great day for it. We're also giving away tickets to see John Mayer in concert!!!
Wow what a vacation! Matt and I are back in the flesh and I must tell you it was a blast with a great group of folks that travelled with us to the Panama Canal. It was a 10-day cruise to the Bahamas, Costa Rica, Panama, Aruba and Curacao. Temperatures were always in the 80's and of course the food was great! I have to tell you about one of the excursions my husband and I went on. A lot of you have done this but I've only seen James Bond do it and that's the zip line. We did this in Costa Rica where you are hooked on a line thru the rain forest and you zip thru the forest suspended in on a line about a million feet high. Okay not quite that high but what a high it was! It was nice to come home to greener looking grass and I was a little nervous when I saw a few flakes outside yetserday morning for the 10 km MS walk in Burlington but the sun did come out and it was a beautiful day. Special thanks to everyone who came out and to all our cruisers.
My husband and I were driving to Michelangelo's last night for the Murray Ferguson tribute, a man who has devoted his time both politically and personally to helping Ancaster and the city of Hamilton become a better place to live, and both my husband and I could not believe how much snow had disappeared from the area. After the evening's festivities, we went to our car and it was snowing all over again!!! By the way last night's tribute to Murray Ferguson attracted 1100 people. Matt and I are gearing up for our Sunni and Hayes cruise next week. It's a Panama Canal cruise so Matt and I will be off until Monday/April the 14th. I'm looking forward to warmer weather and I would like to wish Matt good luck in the running of his first Around the Bay 30K race this Sunday.
What a difference it makes when the sun is shining. I was out yesterday getting gas and I went to play the attendant and she looked at me and said isn't such a beautiful day, the sun is shining and I thought the whole time I was filling the gas tank how bitterly cold it still was and when were going to feel warm. Matt and I are getting geared up for our Sunni and Hayes cruise, which begins next week. It's a 10-day Panama Canal cruise with stops in Costa Rica, Aruba and Curacao. It's apparently boiling hot down but don't expect any complaints from me. I know our cruisers are really excited about hot temperatures!! I've got a busy couple of days with the charity of hope auction tomorrow night at Carmen's featuring Justin Trudeau as the guest speaker. Call Carmen's for more info and see you there.
It was beautiful yesterday, lots of sunshine but cold and now today we'll see a little more of the white stuff and we're back to old man winter in spring. Hey its just mother nature telling you it's not time for flip-flops yet and believes me I saw someone walking around with them on the other day. I'm looking for a good book to take on vacation next week. I've checked out the top 10 best sellers and nothing seems to entice me to buy. I bought John Grisham's book the appeal for my husband but I'm looking for something in the non-fiction vein. Matt's busy these days gearing up for the around the bay race this Sunday and he's pumped!!! I don't mean pumped like Arnold Schwarzenegger but pumped for a fine finish. So if you see him on Sunday be sure and cheer him on!!
Well I don't feel any different...it's the first day of Spring, of course, and I'm hoping the switch in seasons means the warmer weather is on the way. I can't believe how much snow is gone and I have to say its time to move on.
I'm anxious to put out lawn furniture and sit outside on my Muskoka chair and enjoy the sounds of birds chirping and kids playing. That sounds like a once upon a time story but we've been bombarded with so many snow storms, it's time to think about green grass and light jackets.
This is the year of renewals. I got my Health Card renewal in the mail yesterday and then my birthday is coming up so I've got to renew my license. Don't you just love waiting in long line ups? You know what grab a magazine and a coffee and you'll be okay.
I love the rain!!! It's just a reminder that spring will be here soon. Actually it arrives tomorrow and to a lot of us, it can't come soon enough. I just like wearing a light jacket, no gloves.
My mailman yelled out to me yesterday that there were a dozen or so robins at the end of my driveway and how he felt that was a sure sign spring was here.
I've tried to watch Dancing with the Stars but I find that it's so glitzy now that even the judges are getting silly. I just want to see some dancing.
Marie Osmond has sure benefitted from her experience last year. She and her brother are hosting shows left, right and centre. Her career may have been non-existent a few years ago but one fainting spell has put her back on the stage. Who knows who will emerge from this line up of stars!!!!!
So how much of the green stuff did you drink in honour of St Patty? My hubby made a traditional Irish style meal complete with corn beef and colcannon. He's Irish so we had to stick to the tradition and I then followed that with my favourite Irish actor Gabriel Byrne who stars in the TV series In Treatment which I'm so hooked on. I had to check out the cheesy entertainment shows last night because I figured good old heather would be getting a ton of money from ex Paul McCartney. She came out of the courthouse and she said smiling she was happy with the outcome because she could now take care of her daughter and help her charities. What about Donny and Marie Osmond suddenly being on every TV show? It just proves you're never too old to come back to TV. I'm filling up on gas today, maybe I'm losing my sight but I noticed the price has dropped.
I'm so excited Matt arranged to get Glen Peloso from Restaurant Makeover on our show this morning because he'll be the Designs for Living Home Show at the Hamilton Convention Centre this weekend and he's an awesome designer.
I'm finding it very hard to watch any tv the last few days (especially entertainment shows) since this mess in the U.S. with New York Governor Eliot Spitzer and his involvement with a high priced call girl agency. The women he was involved with has appeared everywhere on tv, newsprint and in recent magazines. I'm telling you she'll be doing a movie with Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears and the Olsen Twins!!!!!
It was tough love for our cat Marlena (no she is not named after the actress)...she is totally addicted to Temptations treats and was ruling the house so I had to put her on a schedule that would allow me to sleep through the night. She was waking me up every couple of hours for a snack. Pets, like humans, have to realize that you can't sit around and eat and sleep all day.
I was talking to Matt last night and it looks like we'll have designer Glen Peloso on the show with us tomorrow because he'll be at the Designs for Living Show and you've probably seen him on Restaurant Makeover, a show that runs on the Food Network.
I have to commend the city of Hamilton on how quickly they're cleaning up the snow on the main arteries. My drive into work this morning (and trust me it was early) was busy making sure I was out of the way for city crews clearing. I can't believe and I have said a few times how hooked I am on In Treatment that new TV show on whatever network I can't remember ... It's just so different than any show I've seen in awhile. Matt's a busy guy these days, he is training hard for the around the bay race at the end of this month. Good for him. He's running in the snow and my hubby and I are buying snowshoes cause I tried it a few weeks ago and I'm hooked. I can't believe how quick Easter is coming. I was in the store yesterday and there are eggs of every decadent flavour you can think of!!!! Have one and that's it!!!!!!
Was that snow and wind a riot for the start of March break? I know this is selfish but it was great for me to have this storm on the weekend because I could just sit indoors and watch it all unfold. I didn't see anyone on the streets on Saturday which was good and I know there massive delays for those folks heading away with their families for a March break away from this snow. But by Sunday morning with all that beautiful sunshine it was like it had never happened and what about losing that hour. You know we drove my stepson to Guelph yesterday and I couldn't believe at 7:10 pm how sunny it still was!!! This morning will be the killer because it'll be darker longer in the morning. Storms like this weekend are great conversation pieces at work today so enjoy!!!!
Well, words can't describe the feeling last night as the remaining hour of Radiothon 2008 was coming to an end and the grand total raised over the 3 days was 304,000 dollars up from last year and that was made possible by great sponsors, volunteers and more importantly everyone who called or got on the mc website to become a MacMmaster children's hospital miracle club member. An event like this only confirms how much I love Hamilton and the support the people of this city give this very important facility!! I'm so excited because this morning we're giving away a pair of tickets to see Eric Clapton live in concert in Toronto in May. Image a chance to see a musical legend!!!!
It's been a very busy few days with Radiothon 2008 at Mac children's hospital. Both Matt and I have heard some incredible stories of hope from these kids and their parents. If you have a chance to stop by the hospital, and say hi or even a story you may have about a friend or relative who has had a child in need. We spoke to a father who found out a couple of years ago that his son had cancer and it was amazing to hear his story and he said his son was his hero. It was so inspiring. We'll be wrapping up tonight at 6pm and we're all hoping for a record total. Thanks to everyone who has become a member of the kids miracle club. Welcome to the club. I almost forgot to mention Bruce Springsteen was amazing the other night!
If you're a fanatical skier like my husband then you love this snow and the prospect of more coming tomorrow. I on the other hand like a few other people would like 2 or more days in a row of sunshine followed by a massive meltdown and the smell of fresh blooms in the sir. I know it's too early really but I'm so missing walking on the golf course and hitting a few balls, getting angry with my play and wanting to go back the next day to play. I have to check out when we make the move to daylight savings time because I actually noticed last night that it was still light outside at about 5:15 pm. My husband and I were talking about what we want to do for summer vacation. You almost have to plan that far ahead or the spring and summer will pass you by!!!!! Enjoy the second last day of February!!!
I can't believe we're a week away from Radiothon 2008. We'll be broadcasting live at McMaster University Monday March 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I was so overwhelmed by the response last year and the year before that that I'm sure we'll surpass all expectations this year. I was flipped yesterday as roll up the rim started up at Tim Hortons, which just means you roll up the rim and you could win a treat like coffee or a donut or bagel. My brother in law told me yesterday that there's a tool you can buy especially made to help you roll up the rim of your paper cup because it can be a struggle. Can you believe that? I know there's more snow on the way but I've already booked a few golf tournaments for this year. I'll be hitting the links soon!!
I think Ill be spending the weekend at home because I filled up the tank yesterday and I'm thinking you'd better have a good reason to drive around town but then again have we noticed everything else has risen in cost? I drove to the Niagara region to see my folks yesterday and it was the same there. One thing that that area has less of and it's snow. I think Hamilton and Toronto have been the hardest hit so far. If you have a family member who's a ski nut like mine then you have listen to how great the snow looks. But I'm thinking 27 more days till the first day of spring. Tonight's our last girls night out at Flamborough Downs. Hey gals if tonight 's the night for you and your gal pals come check out the great prizes you have a chance to win. I'm in Collingwood over the weekend with my hubby and he plans to ski, I plan to walk and discover the beauty of Collingwood. I'm looking forward to the Oscars and Jon Stewart's opening monologue. He's quick on his feet and that's a difficult feat. Have a great weekend!!!
So at least 60% of the people in Ontario will be enjoying family day today. Matt and I will let you know what's open and what's closed. What a weird weekend for weather. I got in my truck this morning and it felt like the first day of spring. 7 degrees is pretty warm for February. Have fun finding things to do today with the kids especially if you were planning snow activities because I'd say at lest 50% of the snow has disappeared. My hubby Bob and I went to see the Toronto Maple leafs win Saturday night against the Boston bruins. I've been to a lot of NHL games but never one in Toronto and I couldn't believe all the buzz at the ACC. It's great to see so much enthusiasm for a team that hasn't got the greatest winning record. But leaf fans are diehards. You gotta love that! The wind is strong today so no matter what you plan with the kids enjoy 'every minute of it!!!!!
I was so flipped yesterday, my husband thought he's get a jump on Valentine's so he brought me my Valentine's gift yesterday when he got home. It was a lovely crocus plant that can be planted for spring in our garden. It was so beautiful. He also knows I love useful things and so does he so I'm still trying to figure out what to get him. Last night we rented Little Miss Sunshine and we both loved it. I know the movie is a year old but I am glad we saw it and I 'm so into the new show In Treatment on HBO. It stars Gabriel Byrne and it moves slowly but I find it so interesting to watch. Give it a try. Matt and I interviewed Quebec singer Sylvain Cossette yesterday. It's an interview that'll run one day this week on our show. He was such a great guy and he sang beautifully. His new CD is called 70's.
A special hello to Shawn Macdonald and all the staff at the RBC on Main st West and to Fiona Johnstone who won a night out at Oasis Spa with me in Ancaster. The staff there is great and we enjoyed great appetizers and we were spoiled rotten. Tonight I'll be at Flamborough Downs for OLG casino's ladies night out which is a chance ladies to win some fabulous prizes. I'll be there from 6 to 10 pm and then tomorrow I'll be at Barry's jewelers in Burlington in the morning and then Matt and I Will mc a gala at the Burlington Convention Centre for the carpenter Hospice. It should be a huge success because there will be over 700 people there. Have a great weekend!
I gotta thank the great folks clearing the streets and sidewalks this morning and a special thanks to Shane who was clearing my court early this morning and gave me a hand. It's so nice to see people helping each other out like that. What a windy night. I tossed and turned all night and I kept thinking every tree in our yard was going to come crashing down. I have a sky light in our kitchen and it sounded like it was going to blow open and this weather had my cat Marlena running around the house meowing like a big bad lab was after her. Hopefully we'll get back to some kind of order today. Remember patience is the key. Give yourself some time to get into work and enjoy the snow and a cup of hot coffee. I'll have to find out what happened to Matt last night on TV, he wasn't on because he was stuck somewhere in Burlington.
I can't believe it I get all pumped up about a new TV show and I even stay awake to watch it and I've seen the episode!!! The show is called In Treatment with actor Gabriel Byrne who is a therapist and he has a different patient on every day of the week. It started last Monday and then on the weekend I caught all the episodes because I didn't get a chance to see the shows so last night I thought it would be a new show but no it was the same show again. I'll have to check out how this show will move forward with its shows. That's why I don't watch that much TV. It's too confusing for me. Sometimes it's better to sleep!!!!
What a great way to spend time with the neighbours. With last Friday's snow, it was fun to see everybody trying to help each other out of the at wet heavy snow but this week it'll warm up and we'll be back to barely anything on the ground by Friday. So everyone's aching backs will finally be okay by then. I watched a bit of the super bowl. Man the Americans love their football what a celebration. It started at noon yesterday and ended somewhere around 10 or 10:30 last night. Are you chilled out? I am going to buy a new bathing suit cause it's supposed to warm up to double digits by tomorrow. Ya hoo!!
Is the storm here yet? Whether its work, school or you're just heading out today for an appointment be careful and check ahead of time to see if there are any cancellations. It's Superbowl Sunday and what have you got planned? Well, I'll tell ya, my hubby is off to Montana to ski and I think I'm going to make super bowl vegetable soup cause I don't know how to make anything else. Please when shoveling this weekend either borrow the neighbour's snow blower or do your shoveling in shifts. Have a great weekend and keep warm!!
I love when I have productive days; I had about 20 "to do" items yesterday and they all got done !!!! I thought "this is great...I'll have a great dinner with my husband and stay up 'til 8:30 to watch a new show on HBO called In Treatment with one of my favourite actors, Gabriel Byrne. I ended up falling asleep at about 8pm and waking up to the sound of the alarm and my cat Marlena wanting to play hide and seek.
We gotta all learn to slow down. I could have done all my "to do"s in 2 days instead of killing myself to get it done in a day.
I can't believe these are the last few days of January!!!! Don't complain about the weather because I was watching the conditions throughout California and they're getting bombarded with rain and cooler weather.
I know we're getting closer to warmer weather when I see Tiger Woods back on TV as the golf season starts up again.
I was in Buffalo for the weekend with friends and I ran into a lot of K-Lite listeners in Buffalo with friends for the weekend as well.
It was a great weekend with friends and this morning we're giving away a weekend in Montreal, front row tickets to Michael Buble, and a chance to go to the spa with yours truly. How much fun is that?
Good morning to all the staff at Concession Medical Centre on you got it Concession Street. I dropped by there yesterday morning with K-Lite coffee mugs and personal service coffee.
It was a busy day and night for me. Last night I emceed a fundraiser to raise awareness and money for the bay area. It was held at The Royal Hamilton Yacht Club and it was for the bay area restoration. There were at 150 people there, so I think it was a huge success!! Thanks to all who came out.
I can't seem to shake off this scratchy throat I've had for close to 3 weeks and my husband has caught the constant coughing part of this cold. It's funny what a little cold weather does to everyone. You'd think there was a storm outside. We run around making sure we don't stand outside any longer than 2 minutes or else. I filled up on gas yesterday and thought it was a deal at 101 and on the way into work it was 99 cents. I even washed my car in those coin washes because as you know by now the salt on my vehicle drives me crazy. So I wanted my car to look good in the cold!!! I watched Pirates of the Caribbean, at World's End with Keith Richards who was in the movie three quarters of the way through and that's when I stopped watching the movie. Oh well - I'll have to ask my husband how it ended.
What a weekend and I don't mean "What a weekend of fun!" I'd like to apologize to my family for having to listen to me cough and hack all weekend long but I think I've got my voice back at about 70% ... and that's a good thing cause it was driving me crazy!!! I can't believe I was feeling and am still feeling like not shopping which is so bad for someone like me who can't sit still for even 5 minutes.
This weekend we rented a good movie called Reign Over Me with Don Cheadle and Adam Sandler. It moves slowly but it grabs you and it was quite a departure for Sandler.
It drives me nuts when people go on about how sick they feel but I gotta tell you I've never had this severe a hacking cold with the added feature of no voice to speak with. It's funny because I think I sound like a little old man and men think it sounds sexy. Just remember this from my mom when your throat is soar and scratchy, load up on a mixture of fresh squeezed lemons and honey and do not use lemon juice in the bottle. That's a no no according to my mom, Dr Genesco.
Matt and I would like to invite you to visit us at the radio station tomorrow from 1 till 3pm for and open house with information detailing our upcoming Sunni and Hayes cruise which sets sail on April 1st to the Panama Canal and it's a 10 day cruise. Hope to see you there and best of luck to the junior Canadians who will be taking on the US this afternoon at 2 PM. Have a great weekend!!
It was nice to drive around the city after 24 cm of snow fell and not see people driving like maniacs thru city streets. It was a lot of snow but guess what it's December and we've now been guaranteed a white Christmas and skiers are now guaranteed a great ski season.
Matt and I are gearing up for our annual Christmas broadcast at Limeridge mall on Friday morning from 5:30 till 9 am. Jim Witter will drop by to sing carols along with John McDermott and who knows who else will make an appearance. Special thanks to all the staff at Second Cup especially my pal Carol who will supply us with badly needed caffeine!!! Come by and say hello!!!
Good morning to the staff and children at Queensdale school. One of the parents of that school, Jennifer Woodworth emailed us at our website and told us why her daughter's school should receive new instruments for their music department. Thanks to Steve Loates at Steve Loates Music Gallery that dream is now reality. The school received guitars, keyboards and more!! There may be a future Celine Dion or session musician to come out of that school!
I'm having a little Christmas party at my place tonight for the girls that work at the station. We're doing a potluck dinner and we'll exchange small gifts and - no we will not be singing Christmas carols but we will listen to Christmas music!!!!!
We're giving away another pair of tickets to see the Spice Girls in February at the ACC in Toronto. They're the hottest ticket item next to led Zeppelin right now.
Matt and I have been asked if we're doing our Christmas show from Limeridge mall next week and the answer is yes. We'll be there next Friday, December 21 from 5:30 till 9am and we'll be where ever Santa's village is set up which is by old navy. Singer Jim Witter will be joining us as he has always done for a great morning of Christmas songs and keep in mind we won't be broadcasting live on CH TV but maybe Lori Di Angeles maybe there.
I took the red Hill Parkway yesterday to Fort Erie to visit my parents and I didn't realize just how beautiful a highway it is. It cut my drive in half and I realized as I have always realized, Hamilton is a beautiful place.
Last night my hubby and I decided we have to rent a movie because lately we've been on this movie kick so we rented an old classic I wanted to watch for a very long time called Donnie Briscoe which is one of Johnny Depp's first movies. It was based on a true story about an undercover FBI agent and it was great. It wasn't the holiday movie of the year but if you want a holiday movie why not check out the movie "Holiday" with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet. It was a great movie.
A very special good morning and a happy 50th Robin Owen who joined me last with 3 of her co workers and girl friends for a spa party at oasis spa and lounge. We were treated to a wonderful wine tasting along with fabulous appetizers and pedicures and manicures!! It was a great way to spend a Cool Thurs evening.
I will be at Barry's Jewellers this Saturday from 9am till 1pm - so if you're looking for something special please stop by. I think I'm almost done my shopping for the gift-giving season. My sister and I are planning the menu for Christmas at my house. We're having a blast picking recipes for my hubby to make because he's the chef!
A very special good morning to Terry Clarke and the staff at Meadowlands Nursing home. We dropped by yesterday with K-Lite coffee mugs and coffee and I almost forgot - a 500-dollar gift certificate as well.
I'm very excited tonight because this is the first of a monthly spa with Sunni nights. It's happening at Oasis spa and lounge. I just love Tamarra and Darren, the owners, and the atmosphere is fabulous.
This morning we find out about the best holiday wines from wine expert Natalie MacLean ... check her website and sign up for her free wine newsletter at http://www.nataliemaclean.com.
I ran out the door yesterday with a to do list a foot long and I'm happy to report I got about 90% done. I figure the list just keeps getting longer every day so if I can put a dent in it I'll feel like I accomplished something useful. We are planning to spend the holidays with our families and we're hoping to see many friends and family over the holidays. That means putting a list together of things we need at home so I'm not caught running out the door in the middle of dinner to get something we needed. I also got a bit more Christmas shopping done. I know gift cards are meaningless and thoughtless but not to my nieces and nephews so if it makes them happy to receive them then it makes me happy to give them.
I would like to say good morning and thank you to all the ladies that attended west of the city magazine's girl's night out at the Oakville Convention Centre last night. What a hoot!! There was belly dancing, great Canadian fashions, food sampling and of course I shopped picked up a few extra Christmas which were needed and you know what. They're actually gifts for 2 hard to buy for people on my list. Speaking of Christmas shopping list, I'll be at Barry's Jewellers in Mapleview Shopping Centre in Burlington this Saturday from 9am till 1pm. If you're looking for something special for you-know-who this is place to buy it.
Well, I tried so hard to stay awake for Dancing with the Stars last night and I managed to stay awake long enough to see Celine Dion perform at the beginning of the night which looked pre-taped to me. I know I read somewhere her performances were taped. I knew someone was going off the top last night but I had to come into work this morning to find out and everything pretty well went the way I expected it to. Marie was booted off immediately and that left Mel and Hel to continue and in the end the racecar driver won the night. This morning won't be about the winners but who'll do the next Dancing with the Stars and I bet you there'll be another Osmond on the next show. I think Donny wants to dance this time. Who knows!!!!!
I did quite a bit of running around yesterday. You know the drill - dry cleaners, shoe repair, return items that I thought would look great. I was chatting with one of the girls at one of the shops I was in and she said she hasn't had time to even think about Christmas shopping let alone decorating her home for the season. We're having some friends over Friday night, which is a bit aggressive since my husband Bob doesn't get back from his golf trip till Thursday around suppertime.
I will be at Barry's Jewellers this Saturday from 9 am till 1pm gentlemen if you're looking for some Christmas ideas.
It's another morning to drop mugs, coffee and a $500 gift certificate to spend at Mark's work warehouse! We're off to Park's Furniture this morning and it's great to deliver surprises to loyal listeners. Speaking of that I mentioned Matt and I will be doing an open house for our cruise and it will probably happen on Dec 1st ... keep listening for more details as they become available. We're cruising again in 2008. It's an April fools day departure.
I'm so excited aside from a few minor details my house is back in order after 6 weeks of living out of a suitcase. I finally unpacked my last box, which is very exciting!! I'm so excited with my house I'm never leaving it!!!
What a weekend in the CFL!!! Who'd have thought the Argos would be out and B.C as well. It was a Sunday for football and in my neighbourhood; our neighbour was moving his new hot tub in place so a whole group of us got together and helped him. Actually I yelled orders to all the guys and it worked out quite well. My step kids were around this weekend so it was fun to have them with us as the snowflakes fell lightly over the city on Saturday afternoon. I noticed the neighbours were busy putting up outdoor Christmas lights. I'm actually going to look for a few xmas gifts today believe or not. I've got Xmas parties coming up and it'll be great to try to get ahead. Now that Bob and I have finished our home renos, we'll probably host our families for Christmas!
What a great night it was at Michelangelo's!!! I was the MC for Diamonds on Ice - a fundraising fashion show for the Dundas Rotary Club. They're in the process of raising money for the construction of a skating rink in Dundas Driving Park. It would be a rink designed for skating all year round. Check out the Dundas Rotary Club site to get more info.
Good morning to Susan over at Dell Pharmacy in Ancaster. We're off to deliver K-Lite coffee mugs, coffee and we'll also drop a 500$ gift certicate to spend at Mark's Work Warehouse.
Matt and I will be giving away another pair of tickets to see Avril Lavigne in Toronto in April.
I think I can safely say I may be done and ready for the holidays ahead after deciding to renovate my house during one of the busiest times of the year. I'm just waiting for the usual last minute details that get ordered and always take a little longer. Last night, Matt and I checked out Stevie Wonder at ACC and what a show it was!! Stevie has had huge hits since the sixties and I gottta tell you his voice still sounds crystal clear and his band is amazing. He sang everything from Signed Sealed Delivered to Sir Duke and he did them all to perfection. You know these singers that get back on the road again after years of great hits sound better than they've ever sounded! Tune in today because Matt and I have another chance to beat the box office this morning to see Avril Lavigne!
It really was a great fall weekend!! The junior league of Hamilton and Burlington had a very successful parade of homes for the VON. I was a hostess for a bit a at one of the homes and it was great to see so many people checking out the gorgeous homes decorated for the holiday season. I'll tell you I was inspired to start taking decorations out but we're still finishing our reno job which by the way is almost done and I thank my husband for being so good at putting this project together and the people that worked on our home. I just have to learn to declutter! It was nice to see folks in downtown Dundas for the Remembrance Day parade yesterday. This morning Matt and I will be giving away tickets to see Celine Dion in Toronto!!!
The weekend is here and I've decided to give you a little countdown to Christmas...just because. There are 7 more shopping weekends (including this one) before Christmas. The reason I'm looking ahead is because I'm at the Junior League of Hamilton and Burlington's "Tour of Distinctive Homes" on Saturday morning as a greeter. There are 3 homes beautifully decorated for the season and it's so fabulous because the homes are all on the Lakeshore in Burlingotn (and they're gorgeous)!!!!!! Tickets are $25 at the door and money raised goes to the VON so please help make this a record breaking year!!!!
I'd like to say a special 'good morning' to Judy and all the staff at Pro Motion Physical Therapy on Upper Ottawa Street. Yesterday, we dropped off some K-lite office mugs, coffee and a $600.00 gift certificate to spend at Mark's Work Warehouse. How great is that first thing in the morning?
I dropped off some dry cleaning yesterday, and it was funny, the lady that was serving me said that she couldn't believe how much it had cooled off; I was laughing because it felt like just the other day that i went into the dry cleaners and they were all dying of heat. Time is flying by so fast.!!!!
Good morning to the folks at Pro Motion Physical Therapy over on Upper Ottawa Street. We'll be coming by after 9 this morning to deliver coffee and our new K-lite FM coffee mugs. If you would like me to visit your business, just e-mail us at http://K-litefm.com and you could be next!!!!
It was neat to see city workers putting up the Christmas lights thru downtown Dundas this morning.
Hey don't forget we've been having great weather and it's been hard to think that the festive season is just around the corner but it is!!!!
Hooray for Hamilton!!!!! Matt and I had the pleasure of being the emcees for the City Kidz /Hope for Haiti dinner held last night at Carmen's with special guest star Michael Douglas; I don't know what I was expecting but, man, for a 63 year old man he is in great shape and he was very gracious to the audience. His schedule only premitted so much time at the dinner and to answer questions and as usual, things always run behind schedule but Michael was a true sport and he knew this dinner was for a very important cause. I went to the dinner last night not expecting much in terms of what Michael would be like and he turned out to be just the opposite.
It was an unbelievable Saturday as Matt and I participated in the 5k walk/run for Haiti and City Kidz. There had to have been over 2,000 strollers and runners; it was a fabulous morning. I walked (of course) and Matt ran with Esther who owns the Runner's Den and has been to Haiti several times so she understands first hand the need for money to help these people. I walked the 5km in 47 minutes which was slow but you know me I gabbed my way to the finish line. Matt ran it in 31 minutes. We had a challenge going with the "Morning Live Crew's" Bob Cowan and Annette Hamm to raise funds and we surpassed them (along with the Mayor and Chief of Police). Matt and I would like to thank everyone who participated and donated. We're hoping money raised could be somewhere around 200,000 dollars!!!!
What a great day! It's the one day we spend eating teenie weenie chocolate bars and then try to justify eating a thousand of them at the end of the day. That's what Halloween is all about!!
I've been trying desperately to get into the new TV season this year but so far there is nothing that's keeping me wanting more. I saw another episode of Cane last night and of course because I missed an episode or 2 and i can't figure out what's going on. I saw a bit of Dancing with the Stars and even it isn't quite doing it for me. I won't be watching much TV tonight, with the trick or treaters. In our neighbourhood the kids come relatively early and it ends quite early so I know I'll still have 8,000 pieces of candy left at the end of the night.
I can't believe how warm it's been. My neigbours are having a pool installed this week and why not do in the fall while this weather has been so mild? I think according to the farmer's almanac the weather will remain mild with very little chance of any flurries till closer to Christmas. That usually means people wait to shop for Christmas when it's mild because it doesn't feel like the holiday season.
Matt and I checked out Ian and Dave Thomas in a show they're touring with called brothers forever. It was funny and it's so nice to see 2 brothers enjoying each other's company and they are so talented.
I think one of the most dangerous drives to work in the morning is when it's foggy. It was so thick this morning and with all the construction going on Upper Wentworth, it was not fun trying to find a spot that didn't a pylon blocking it. Please take some time this morning. I was out driving the other day and I couldn't believe I saw I woman in a van driving and eating a huge sandwich. It was so dangerous because she wasn't driving the speed limit or even thinking about the other cars that were behind her trying to figure out what was going on.
Matt and I are off to Brantford tonight to see Ian Thomas and his brother Dave perform on stage.Isn't great to renovate your home? My husband and I have been waiting to do this for a long time so when we decided to get real aggressive and renovate the whole top floor of our home all at once I thought, yes we can do this and it has been great and stressful at times but I have to remember -and so does anyone else who decides to do something like this - it does come together and you should not let little things get you wound up. Look at the big picture, which right now is full of dry wall dust and plywood.
I'm also doing physiotherapy on my right knee from last week's knee surgery so when I decide to do something I make sure I do it all at once.
Could someone tell me where that weekend went? Friday night my husband and I, along with some friends and 10,000 others checked out the Hamilton Bulldogs game. It was so close and not a winner for the dogs but it was for Brian Melo who had quite a few screaming fans cheering him on. He was very comfy singing both anthems. I love watching people at games because it's like they've never eaten. Everybody was munching away and showing off their Calder Cup replica rings. I worked Saturday so by the time I got home my hubby had already put away our back yard furniture. It'll be time soon to put out Christmas stuff. We're half way thru the month of October and I know there's tons of time but all the Christmas magazines are out and you'll can already start buying xmas decorations. I must admit we turned on our gas fireplace for a bit. Soon it'll be chestnuts roasting on an open fire!
Well it was quiet the long weekend for me. Last Thursday, I went to the Henderson Hospital to have a scope done on my right knee. I'm not good with being put out because I tend to get a little sick after I wake up. The procedure went well but I did feel ill afterwards which is very common. Dr. Wismer and the staff at the Henderson were fantastic. I have to relax and get my knee back to normal but I have to slow down a bit, which is something I'm not good at. Our family Thanksgiving was spent at my sister's house - what a feast! You know the drill - we all end up eating too much and wishing we hadn't. My house is being renovated and it's still under major construction but coming along beautifully. What about how hot it was yesterday? It was Thanksgiving in L.A. without being there. Enjoy it again today!!!!
We've had a lot of requests for this since I mentioned it on air, so here it is from the pages of the October issue of Chatalaine:
In a bowl, whisk 2 cups (500ml) plain 1 percent MF yogourt or light sour cream with 1 cup (250ml) canned pumpkin puree ( not pie filling), 1/4 cup (50ml) brown sugar, 1/2 tsp (2ml) ground cinnamon and 1/4 tsp (1ml) ground nutmeg. Spoon into glasses. Break 4 gingersnap cookies into small pieces, then divide and sprinkle over pumpkin mixture. Top each parfait with a sprig of fresh mint, if you like. Serves 4.
It's another coffee and K-Lite coffee mug kind of day. We're off to St Peter's hospital to deliver K-Lite coffee mugs and coffee. We're also going to get the scoop on filming downtown. Hamilton film liaison Jacqueline Norton is going to talk to Matt and me about The Incredible Hulk, which is being filmed downtown. I also wanted to try to sneak in 9 or 18 holes of golf because my house is in disaster mode because of our renovations, I've got painters and dry wall people all over the place. I happened to catch about 10 minutes of Pushing Daisies the new TV show and it was okay but was like Desperate Housewives with the narration and then I switched over to Cavemen featuring 3 guys in bad cavemen makeup at a party with people dressed normally. It's like somebody only told those 3 guys about the Halloween party. I ended up watching The Devil Wore Prada - Meryl Streep at her best!!!! Have a good day!!!!
I can't believe how much filming is taking place in this city. The downtown core was packed around Main and James because of the filming of what I think is the Incredible Hulk. Dundas is always busy with film crews somewhere. It's exciting and a pain when you're trying to get around.
It's only Tuesday and I can't wait for the long weekend. I think we all get so overwhelmed with getting everything done as quickly as possible we forget to come for air.
Last night I was so tired but I managed to check out Dancing with the Stars for a few short minutes and it was so boring and I'm sorry but Jerry Springer was better than Wayne Newton and Mark Cuban. I often wonder what makes a person say yes to something like this especially if it isn't for charity.
Most people wake up after a weekend and still have their home in place. How would you like to wake up with no kitchen? No I'm not on a diet and decided to get rid of the kitchen. My hubby and I are renovating and everything is happening at once, which is great because hopefully by the end of November my house will be back to normal. It's exciting and a pain all at the same time. We had the President's cup golf on all weekend while we were working on the house and it was so exciting to see Tiger and Mike Weir. It was played in Montreal and the Americans were just praising the Canadian fans!! I wish I were there. It's the first of October and that means Thanksgiving coming up. A chance to spend time with family and over eat. Matt and I will be giving away our next trip to Dominican Republic this morning and listen to find out about our Sunni and Hayes breakfast tour. We're planning to take the show on the road very soon!!
I went out pick up my dry cleaning yesterday at the cleaners and it was 10 times hotter there than outside and it was an unbelievably hot and humid day yesterday. I told my hubby not to turn the air on because it would definitely cool off and of course it didn't. I actually started watching a new TV show last night, not old movies or another episode of Seinfeld. I really wanted to see Jimmy Smits new show called Cane and both my husband and myself liked the show. It has some similarities to Dallas and Dynasty. You know the story, 2 brothers that see eye to eye and daddy ends up giving all the power to the son he likes best. I even managed to watch an oldie but goodie, from 1983. Remember St Elmo's Fire?
Let's all to try to answer the question why does the price of gas go up right after I've filled up. That's okay I just love paying more money for everything. I've got to stop whining because it's been a spectacular start to fall. Sunshine, sandals and smiling faces was and still is the order of the day. I had a meeting last night with the junior league (the organization that presents the lovely parade of homes for the VON) and when I got home I statrted to watch a bit of Dancing with the stars. Yes, it's silly but I finally got it last night. The audience is huge because the various ages of non dancers and dancers represents almost everyone and no matter what is going on in one's life you achieve success at even something totally foreign to you. Maybe that doesn't make sense to you but it makes perfect sense to me and watch the ratings, they'll be huge.. today it's to the hospital to get ready for a little surgery I have to have done to my knee so enjoy the beautiful day. There aren't going to be a whole lot of them left!!!!
It didn't feel any differently getting up this morning. I thought it might since it is the start of a brand new season. I know it began yesterday morning but today is the first full day of fall and aside from the date you would never know summer was over. Friday night was a great night, my hubby and I and some friends headed off to the Ti Cat game and man am I glad we went. The Cats won and you would have thought we had won the Grey Cup. It was a great night for the team and the fans. I ran into Ti cat Angelo Mosca. What a great guy and still as energetic about this team as ever!!! I'm the co-chair of the junior league's parade of homes Christmas house tour. Can you believe I'm at a meeting tonight to talk about the homes that'll be on display? Yes it's time to start thinking about a lot of things like Thanksgiving, Hallowe'en and yes Christmas!!!!
I bet you thought you'd be raking leaves and buying pumpkins for the first day of fall. This warm weather has been great!!! I tried to get 9 holes of golf in yesterday and I couldn't believe how busy it was. Everybody's just trying to get as much of this sport in before it gets too cold to swing a club. I'm off to see the Ti Cats hopefully win a second football game if that's at all possiblle. I've got a fair amount of packing to do do because we're putting in new flooring in our house and I know it's going to look great but I can't stand my house in disarray. Hiking is in the plans this weekend and you may see Matt jogging with his dog on the bruce trail as well. Have a great weekend!!!!
A very special good morning to Brenda and all the staff at the medical diagnostics unit at the Hamilton General hospital. What a great group of ladies and gentlemen. I was late arriving because believe or not I actually got lost. Believe me you don't want to know how that happened!!!! What a great day it was yesterday at Willow Valley golf course. The tournament was for the Banyon Centre and I'd like to say good morning to all the 144 or so golfers. The weather was great and I actually played better than I thought I would. We were all commenting on how gorgeous the weather was and it would be getting cooler so I told everyone to start thinking about our Sunni and Hayes cruise. Just log on to our web site at k-litefm.com. You can't miss it!!!l
It's funny you know when its sunny and warm I get stopped constantly and asked why I'm not on the golf course. Yesterday, I took advatnage of the warmth and cleared out some of my flower gardens. I've got sumack growing and it needed to be cut back so my whole body is aching this morning because I was trimming this stuff back on an angle. Today I'm off to deliver mugs right after the show at Hamilton Health Sciences in the medical diagnostic unit. We'll have coffee and our new K-Lite coffee mugs and then I'm off the Willow Valley golf course to play in a tournement in support of Banyan Centre. So the day is full and I thank Matt for providing me with outstanding weather. Okay the great weather is for everyone so enjoy it!!!!
I couldn't wait to get out the door yesterday and it wasn't to play golf. My parents were coming up to help me make some decisions about my out of control wild flower gardens. It was a fair amount of re-organizing but it got done and it looks great. I'm ready for fall, which by the way is fast approaching. This is the week that re-runs become a thing of the past and we can start to watch some of the 9000 new shows that will probably be gone before the end of the week. I'm going to miss the Sopranos!!!! I've got friends who can't wait for ski season . I think I may try to get my skates on and try skating again and then maybe I'll sit in front of my fireplace this fall and read the 7 or 8 books that are half read!!!!
It's Monday morning and I can't remember what I did Friday night. Okay it's coming to me. a birthday party for a pal. Saturday was more prep for our upcoming revnovation and Sunday was fabulous because my hubby and I went on the Autmumn stroll in Ancaster, an event that's held every Sunday on the Bruce trail with wine tastings and wonderful food donated from area restaurants. It was great! There was live music and just over 600 people. The temperature was perfect outside. Then we got home and I had to watch the emmys. I really wanted to see If Ryan Seacreast was any good and he was just what I had expected. The stage took a bit of getting used to and I was awake long enought to see 2 things: Robert Duvall won an emmy for Broken trail which was filmed in Alberta. He had bad mouthed Alberta while he was there and then he got up on stage and said how great Alberta was ... and what about the Sopranos? It deserved best drama and I saw David Chase the creator - what a genius!!!! Time for a scond cup of green tea, have a great day!!!!
I always find it amazing when I can figure out technical things. I bought a new computer last week, and I have high speed internet with sympatico and it was a real chore to get this system up and running. I ended up needing a new modem which I picked up and succeessfully installed without my husband or a computer guru. I know it's a couple of plug ins but for me it was like the biggest accomplishment. What's next for me, maybe facebook!!! The weeknd looks packed for me and I am really trying to un-clog these busy weekends and make them as simple as possible. You know like not looking at my watch every 2 seconds. Whether it's rain or shine enjoy whatever you may have planned and listen to Matt and I on Monday we're giving away another trip for 2 somewhere hot!!!!
Well I'm sure our Hamilton Idol Brian Melo is finally resting a bit after such an amazing victory in Toronto. Matt and I had a chance to chat with him yesterday morning and what a clas act. He's a very grounded young man who's overwhelmed by everything and thanks his parents for supporting him all the way ... plus the chicks love him!!! Our Sunni and Hayes cruiise is posted on the K-Lite web site. If you're looking for a fabulous trip in April, we're off on a cruise thru the Panama Canal . It looks like a blast and it's 10 days. I was at the Blue Jays game last night against the Yankees and I saw hockey broadcaster Dave Hodge. I didn't call him former hockey broadcaster because he should be doing the telecasts. Well I'm off to try and hit the links today!!!!!
Congrats to a very classy Brian Melo!!!! He was the dark horse in this competition but he proved that dreams can come true and he's headed for a very promising music career. Imagine doing what you've wanted to do your whole life and getting paid for it. Hey, I do that already!!! It's my day to deliver coffee mugs and not just plain mugs, our brand new K-Lite fm mugs with personal serve coffee and today we're off the Hamilton health Sciences at the the diagnostics unit to deliver the coffee and mugs. If your business would like a visit email us at k-litefm.com. I've gotta run, I'm busy making up a key to the city for Brian !!!!!
Way to go Melo!!!! Brian was untouchable last night on Canadian Idol. He was cool under pressure and tonight could very be the night he and his family have been waiting for. If you want to watch Brian on the big screen, check him out tonight at Hamilton place - it's free just bringing a non-perishable food itme for Hamilton food share. Doors open at 6:30 pm. I forgot to mention I was out the other day and stopped by a store that had it's hours posted on the door that read open Monday thru Friday 10 am til 4pm and Saturday and Sunday golfing. I hate to say this but I actually saw one of my neighbours raking leaves. It's too early for that!!!i
it was a very wild weekend for weather. Friday, saturday and Sunday Westdale was filled with activities for the 4th annual Westitalia celebrations. Because of the showers on Friday night the Westdale Idol competition was cancelled and resumed on Saturday with 10 excellent performers. I'm so impressed with all the talent in Hamitlon. There was a first, second and third prize. the 3rd prize went to Cameron Caton, 2nd to Lyla Myklos and first prize to Steven Andrews. It was not easy and hopefully it will be easy tonight for our own Brian Melo - He's got a 50 50 chance of winning and I know judging by all the signs in the city he's sure to be a winner. You know what? He's already won in my mind. He's a class act who's handled himself with such class . Good luck Brian!!!
So do you want a little Canadian Idol in Hamilton? Come out to Westdale this weekend for Wesitalia. I'll be one of the judges at the Idol contest tonight and tomorrow night on the main stage in Westdale. The preliminary judging starts tongiht and wraps up tomorrow night. it should be fun. I'm planning to try to de-clutter some of my closets this weekend so I can buy more junk to clutter them up next week. I actually saw some people in my neighbourhood raking leaves. Can you believe it? And how about it getting darker sooner? I'm not ready to say goodbye hot hot hot and hello cool temperatures. I do have a new sweater I want to wear so maybe it could cool off long enough for me to wear it. have a great weekend!
I experienced something I've never experienced before. My husband loves Jimmy Buffet so we were off to the Molson amphitheatre last night in Toronto for what started out as Mardi Gras. We got there earlier because it's a tradition to get there a few hours ahead of time and dress up in bad hawaiian shirts, parrot hats and bascially bad tourist clothes and drink margaritas. Buffet has created this atmosphere with his audiences for so long that the tradition goes on each time he comes to Toronto. it was nice to hear Buffet talk about Toronto, he knew about the film festival starting today, going to Georgian Bay and how great the Canadian fans are. He put on a great show. I get why people keep coming back. With the film festivsl in Toronto, there's plenty of filming right here in Hamilton. I was at the Scottish Rite yesterday for a meeting and there were cameras all over the area filming and this morning psrt of downtown Dundas is being filmed for the upcoiming Incredible Hulk movie. Hooray for Hamilton!!!!
Congrats again to Brian Melo for successfully making it into the top 2 Canadian Idols last night. It was really hard to figure out who was going to be left out. Carly Rae is so sweet but she's young and there's lots of time for her to pursue a singing career.
Speaking of Idol contests, I'll be doing my judging thing this weekend in Westdale for Westitalia which takes place Friday and Saturday nights at King St West in Westdale. It will be packed so expect to get there early and check out the fun; I'll see you there.
We're giving away Hillary Duff tickets today and tomorrow. A friend of mine was telling me how much her 2 little girls idolize Hillary.
I bet everybody's running around the house this morning fighting for the bathroom. Although fall doesn't begin until the 23rd, school starting always feels like the end of the season.
I saw the new Mac students in their red overalls yesterday having fun and I also happened to catch that Ti-Cat vs. Argo game...what a mess. There were tons of people which was great but it's a young team with a long way to go.
The Mac Maruaders didn't have a good start to the season yesterday either...
Last night, Brian Melo looked a little tired; the judges thought so too but we're so close to the end and we all know it's gets tougher and tougher. We're all hoping for a big Brian Melo win tonight!!!!
I can't believe it...everytime I say "I'll have a great golf game", it turns out to be the absolutley worst game of my life. Yesterday was my day; I said I would get and birdie and I did (which for me is a hole in one)!
What a great looking day it was yesterday and the last weekend before back to school looks even better.
It's back to normal next Tuesday which means Matt and I are finally back working together after a very busy summer vacation. It's not like summer's over but there's something about walking into a store and seeing Hallowe'en candy...it reminds me that it won't be long before there's a chill in the air .
I couldn't believe driving into work this morning it was 27 degrees according to my car thermometer. It will be a lot cooler and I'm hoping today will finally be the day I break 100 on the golf course. You know what? It really doesn't matter as long as I'm having a good time and so are the people around me.
My step kids are getting ready for their return to school. My step son is so excited to be starting University, which is great because I remember be petrified myself.
I actually started looking at fall clothes yesterday in the stores. You can't help but do that since they're everywhere you turn.
Congrats to Brian Melo who made it to the top 3 on Canadian Idol last night. They'll be back to proving themselves on Labour Day and hopefully he'll continue his rise to the top. Hamiltonians agree that he's already at the top.
Good morning to our neighbours in our building at Para Med services. This morning we'll pay them a visit after the show with coffee mugs and coffee. There are about 17 other businesses on the 4 floors of our building on Upper Wentworth.
Speaking of Upper Wentworth, the street is under major league construction so if you're planning to stop at Limeridge Mall, keep in mind there are a few obstacles. All you need is a bit of patience and you'll get to the mall soon enough.
What a night for Brian Melo!!!! He was great last night on Canadian Idol. It's gotta be stressful up on stage knowing alomost 2 million people are watching and in less than 3 weeks he could be the next Canadian singing sensation. Whether Brian wins or not is not the real issue; he's proven, with or without the title, he'll be able to pursue his singing career and he should be able to get some backing from a record label.
I was out shopping around (which I do almost everyday) and, yes, moms are out with kids buying shoes, school supplies and back to school outfits.
Well I hope you enjoyed the last weeknd of August because this is your last week before life gets back to normal. You know the drill; it'll be back to getting everybody ready for school and work. The line up for the washroom, breakfast and packing those nutritional lunches.
My hubby and I are excited for our son who is off to University this year and he's quite excited!!!
By the way, I had told you that Brian Melo would be on the show Friday morning; due to scheduling problems, he made an appearance on Aiko's show in the afternoon. We'll all be cheering for him tonight. I'm excited to see Paul Anka coach the top 4 tonight. We've got a pair of tickets for ONE LUCKY FAN to see the show tonight...you've got to be listening to win though.
I thought yesterday was supposed to heat up...or is it today?
I'll tell you driving in this morning I got a bit of light show with the lightning striking periodically. Maybe we'll finally see some real rain this morning. I welcome it because I tried to plant some fall mums and it was like digging into cement.
Good morning to the folks down at the Crime Unit at the Police Station. I was down there with K-Lite coffee mugs and Personal Service coffee. Just register at http://k-litefm.com if you'd like mugs for your office.
What an unbelievably cool day it was for the middle of August. Yesterday was our first annual K-lite/ckoc/820cham golf tourney for mcmaster children's hosptial. Despite the wind, the bit of drizzle and the unusually cool weather, it was a great day to be out at willow valley golf course. We're a month away from a new season so we should be thankful for every beautiful day we get. I didn't get a chance to see Canadian Idol but I am thrilled that Brian melo is in the top 4 . Your Hamilton fans knew you could do it Brian!!!! Congrats this morning to Indira Ramcharan of the Hamilton crime unit we will be dropping by this morning after the morning show to drop off brand new k lite coffee mugs and coffee. If you'd like us to seee you and work with new coffe mugs just e mail us at k-lite fm. Have a great day today whatever your plans may be!!!!
I loved that wind last night!!! I couldn't believe how cool it got but I'm hoping for bright sunshine and warm temepratures for today's golf tournement at Willow Valley. It's the first annual K-Lite FM / CHAM /CKOC tourney with proceeds gping to McMaster Children's Hospital.
I didn't get a chance to see Brian Melo last night on
