Pete's Hit and Run Notes

16 May.....Fasten your seatbelts, here we go into the first long weekend of the Spring/Summer season.  Hope it's a good one, and a safe one for you and all those you care about.

Wondering what's open/closed Monday ?  I can help....

ALL CLOSED....Malls.....Grocery stores.....Government offices......Rec facilities....Beer and Liquor..... Garbage collection will be backed up one day in Hamilton / Halton for the Holiday Monday.

OPEN....some Sears stores in Ontario to select customers....they won't say who's invited and which stores are open. So start guessing, I suppose.

FIREWORKS....Christie Conservation area Sunday at dusk, rain date is Monday. They've got free admission to the park after 5P Sunday, and they're collecting non perishables for the hungry.

Also, at Valley Park on Stoney Creek mountain, Sunday at dusk. Valley Park has a dynamite celebration happening all weekend with rides for the kids , craft show and silent auction all weekend.

Here's what else I know so far today......

Ellen DeGeneres is putting yesterday's California supreme court ruling on same-sex marriage into action. She and partner Portia De Rossi announced yesterday during a taping of her show they plan to marry. Portia was in the audience and the couple got a big round of applause from everyone.

Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson have split again, and it doesn't sound like it was a very amicable split either.  According to the story his mood swings and propensity towards flirting with other women was too much for Kate to take.  It's alleged they haven't gotten along well since getting back together a couple of months ago.

Amy Winehouse copped a break from prosecutors who won't press charges over the video footage that showed her smoking illegal drugs from a pipe. Her spokesperson said she's happy she can move on and concentrate on her music.  Let's hope she'll do that and not focus on substances that will suck the life out of her eventually.

CBS is hoping to laugh it's way to better ratings this Fall.  They've announced they will air 6 sitcoms this Autumn instead of just 4, and will expand their giggle days to Wednesdays from just Mondays in the past. Casualties of their new season include the shows "Shark" and the gothic thriller "Moonlight" which get cancelled due to bland ratings.

OPP is conducting a road safety campaign this long weekend. They're looking for aggressive drivers, drunk motorists, and those not wearing seatbelts.  Hiway 400 will be a primary focus and the new OPP plane will be circling all the major hiways and a second plane has been rented to look out over secondary roads.

Shania Twain and her husband Mutt Lange are calling it quits after 14 years of marriage.  Shania's rep says it's a private matter, that there will be no further comments at this time.  They have a 6 year old son and moved to Switzerland in 2002 to avoid life in the public eye.
