Pete's Hit and Run Notes
12 May......Hope all moms and families had a great Mother's Day yesterday. Ours was tremendous and the weekend was wonderful all the way around.
Here's what I know so far today....
A memorabilia dealer and former associate of O.J. Simpson is claiming O.J. confessed to murdering his wife after his acquittal in 1995. Mike Gilbert is flogging his book, "How I helped O.J. get away with murder" being released today. He claims O.J. and he were under the influence of beer and pot when O.J. admitted visiting Nicole the night of the murder and she opened the door with a knife in her hand. Gilbert claims Simpson said if she hadn't done that she'd still be alive. Another claim is that O.J. stopped taking his arthritis meds so his hand would swell and not fit in the bloody glove.
Hulk Hogan's son is going to jail for the car crash that seriously injured his friend. Nick Bollea is going away for 8 months, then five years probation and loss of license for 3 years. Hulk Hogan and his estranged wife are being sued for providing the hopped-up car involved in the accident.
Uma Thurman is hitting back at Lancome in their contract dispute with a 15 million dollar lawsuit filed Friday. She demanded a million dollars originally for use of her image after her contract with Lancome expired. Lancome counter sued for 15 million, and so Uma now has counter-counter-sued. It's starting to sound more like a game of poker.
Speed Racer has kinda stalled at the Start/Finish line. The movie took in 20 million dollars over the weekend , apparently half of what Warner Brothers had hoped for. Still that was good enough for second place behind Ironman which pulled in another 50 million over the weekend.
Playboy magazine is the latest entertainment outlet to post a loss in the first quarter of this year as more and more people get their news, information and entertainment online. They lost 3 million dollars January to March of this year compared with a 1.5 million dollar profit in those months a year ago.
The flirty ways of Parvati Shallow seemed to work for her like a charm this time as she grabbed the million dollar Survivor prize last night on the Micronesia finale. She came in 6th on the Cook Islands edition but schmoozed the guys and gals into top spot during the fans versus favorites edition which had it's first ever all-female final four. Parvati is 25, a former boxer from Los Angeles.
Hamilton Public School board will hold a special meeting 21 May at 6:30pm to decide where the new education center will be. Renovating the old building has been scrapped as an idea. The last two options include a move to the mountain or being part of an Education square on the redeveloped block at Main and Bay streets.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are telling wedding stories to People Magazine, and one of the revelations is they both got tattoos prior to tying the knot. Mariah's says "Mrs. Cannon" and as Nick says they mean more than rings because they are "forever and ever". Nick says they laugh at the same things, and have a lot in common spiritually. Let's hope so, going from whirlwind romance to marriage is a big leap of faith.
A new Buy Local, Eat Local map and directory brochure is being released for you to check out the vendors in Hamilton who sell locally produced food. The initiative synchronizes with the efforts to have people buy food that hasn't been trucked hundreds of miles to show up at market, thereby cutting down on air pollution and fuel costs. Look for the brochure at local farmers' markets, tourism kiosks and at environmenthamilton.org .
