Cherries for a Cause

Hamilton Food Share and E.D. Smith Fruit Farms are pleased to announce a new initiative "Cherries for a Cause" to provide fresh sweet cherries to 3000 local households and they need your help.

Each year over 25,000 guests visit the family owned, E.D. Smith Fruit Farm to pick sweet cherries.  This year, paying guests will be offered the opportunity to pick a complimentary $10 pail of cherries, which will be donated to Hamilton Food Share. The goal is for guests and farm staff, to pick 3,000 pails of cherries to distribute amongst local households.

The main objective of Hamilton Food Share is to increase our community's ability to reduce hunger.  Currently, over 15,700 people access nine food banks and seven hot meal programs in the Winona, Stoney Creek, Hamilton and surrounding areas.  Forty percent of the recipients are children under the age of 18 and thirty one percent represent single parent families.

The farm will open for cherry season on July 5th.  Please visit the E.D. Smith Fruit Farms website at http://www.edsmithfruitfarms.com/  for hours of operation and daily crop updates.
