Schlong first came into being around 1988, cropping up in the same Oakland County area that Operation Ivy used to haunt. The band performed in that area often, mostly at warehouse parties under various names. The name Schlong did not appear until sometime later, taken from the name of a cat the band saw often. They eventually released their first record in 1996, Punk Side Story, a drunken punk rock version of West Side Story, and promptly disappeared after the release. A collection of singles followed the next year, but the band was unofficially disbanded at that point, and has not appeared since the mid-'90s.
