Evan Marshall's instrumental technique -- he's able to perform arpeggios and strumming tremelos simultaneously -- is stunning, yet instrumental technique alone does not make an album, as Mandolin Unlimited
prove. Throughout the album, Marshall
is at the top of the form, but the entire point of the album is the mandolin, not the music. As a result, even Bach
compositions seem thin. Still, mandolin and bluegrass fans will find Marshall's
technique astounding, even if it doesn't stay with them after the album is finished.
