Hamilton Amateur Astronomers Perseids meteor shower public night

Watch the Perseids meteor shower with the Hamilton Amateur Astronomers at the Binbrook Conservation Area on August 11.

Bring a blanket or lounge chair because lying down is one of the best ways to enjoy the meteor shower.Weather and clouds permitting. No rain date is scheduled.

When: August 11, 2012, 8-11 p.m.

Where: Binbrook Conservation Area. Proceed south on Hwy 56 through Binbrook. Turn right onto Kirk Rd. Turn left onto Harrison Rd. The park entrance is on Harrison Rd.

This year, the Perseids Meteor Shower should be a good show since the skies will be darker than usual. The event occurs near a new moon so there won’t be any moonlight to wash out the fainter meteors.

There will also be a night sky tour and members will set-up their telescopes for observing celestial objects.

Free admission after 8 p.m.We will be collecting non-perishable items for local food banks and your donation would be appreciated. During the summer, food bank supplies often run low and the Hamilton Amateur Astronomers would like to ensure that no one goes hungry. So far we have collected 1,000 pounds of food thanks to everyone’s generosity.

For more information, please see the Hamilton Amateur Astronomers website at www.amateurastronomy.org  or call (905) 627-4323.

Hamilton Amateur Astronomers is a non-profit club that promotes local astronomy.
