WHEN
Thursday, July 26, 2012
TIME

The 10th Annual Arts of August ‘Creativity Through Diversity’ Fashion Show will raise money for World Vision’s relief efforts, for the internationally displaced people of Somalia. Over 20 local organizations are working together to support both newcomer youth and youth-at-risk in creating a “Culture of Peace” through the show. Hamilton’s street-involved, community youth and newcomer youth will host the fashion show with local celebrities to present fashions in formal, cultural, retro and back-to-school wear. Come to the ‘Creativity Through Diversity Fashion Show’, and make this a night to remember!

The guest MC will be Lisa Hepfner, CHCH Reporter. Celebrity Models include Pigskin Pete from the Hamilton Tiger Cats; Judi Partridge, Ward 15 Councilor; Melinda Estabrooks, CTS- Full Circle Host; Len Lifchus, Executive Director of the United Way of Burlington & Greater Hamilton; Glenn Allan, TV & Radio Host, Founder of Hope for Men, and National Motivational Speaker for Youth Yak Live; and Al Craig, Executive Director of the Living Rock.

This year, the Fashion Show hopes to fill the 700 seat, air-conditioned auditorium at Sir John A. Macdonald High School to raise money for World Vision to provide relief for children and families suffering from the severe drought and famine in Somalia.

Fashion Show youth participants are excited to give back to those in need by using their talents. As one youth stated, “being a part of this is an honour because I know (the money) is going toward a very good cause.”

Arts of August is a city-wide youth initiative, founded by the 26-year old Living Rock Ministries, in partnership with local youth and art organizations.  Youth (age 13 to 25) will model clothes with themes of Culture, Retro, Formal and Back to School fashion.
